Am I too old to start???

Thanks for all the positive feedback! Looks like I have to do some sweet talking to the MRS. She is ok with my son starting once he is in control of his bicylce. I mentioned it to her this morning and she just rolled her eyes...probably doesn't believe that I will go through with it. I don't want to do anything serious, but still want to hit the track. Guess it is time to look for a nice used bike. I am 6'3" 235 (hope to be down to my fighting weight of 215 - 220 by spring, guessing at least a 250 in my future.
  2. I am looking for the same thing, but can't help you with the pictures.
  3. I am almost 40 and been riding since I was 9 yrs old. Started out with trails and some MX riding for fun, not competitive. Then switched to street. Have the itch again, looking at getting my little guy a 50 once he is ready. I am thinking about getting going again too. Is 40 to old to start out again? My courage has left me, not sure if I could hammer the track like the old days, but then again brave enough to not get the thought out of my head. If I were to start out again, any suggestions on bike, size etc....

How do I change fork springs

I have a 97 DR650 and just got my Progressive springs in the mail. It has been many moons since I have done this. A friend was going to help me, but he and his MRS are camping this weekend. I had posted this before, but can't find it. If I could get a "play by play" that would be great. If I recall, all I do is take off the cap pull out the old ones and put the new ones in with the spacer. What size spacer should I use, I am 6'4 235 and have a 7.6 kientech on the rear. I will change out the fork oil in the spring. Thanks

    Strange noise from 97 dr650

I have been noticing lately that after I down shift and let the clutch out I hear a noise coming from the engine area. Only way I can describe it is it sounds like the squealing of the tire locking up..which it isn't. THe first few times I heard I actually thought my front tire had locked up. It doesn't happen all the time, and seems to happen when slowing down from higher speeds. Any ideas out there???

    MRA Road windshield review

Just put on my MRA Road windshield on yesterday and have about 60 miles with it so far. Had the DR up to 80 on the HWY. Worked great!!!! Take all the pressure off my chest and the wind just hits the top of the helmet. I am 6'4" and it worked great. I adjusted the angle of it pretty straight up and as high as it would go. Very easy to install and adjust the angle of it. I give it a thumbs up!!

    Lever bolts???

While taking off my old stock handguards I noticed that the bolts that go through the lever to hold it all together are very long to hold the guard. The clutch side had a acorn nut on top, to bolts on the bottom. THe brake side had a phillips screw head and 1 nut on the bottom. Wondering if this is normal, not sure since I bought this used.Would like to put shorter screws in that fit more flush....any suggestion. The ones there already have shoulder the correct lenght to fit thought the lever assembly.

    Idle and rear shock trouble

I just had the rear seal replace in my shock for: Seal kit $20, labot $60 including a new valve. I switched from the stock spring to a Kientech spring (7.6) at the same time since I had it all apart anyway.
  11. UPDATE Now the wife says never riding, at least until in his teens. Been hearing stories of kids that get hurt on bikes. So he can NOT have a m/c until much older (teens) I guess I was looking at it to start him young where I can put training wheels on it, slow it down with the throttle limiter and let him increase speed gradually once the t-wheels come off. I believe that he would be a better rider that way than if getting on one at 14 with no fear and more power at his finger tips. From the way DW was talking this morning I guess no football, soccer, trampolines, base ball...might get hurt. I don't want him to ever get hurt either, but the fact is that he might with any sport that he does.
  12. He has mastered the big wheel aleady I know that some will say this is to young, others will say they started when they were 4. I don't believe in ramming anything down a childs throat. If he expresses interest and enjoys things I will let him try. He is more than capable of riding a little 50 with training wheels on it until next summer when he is 4 1/2. He has watched the pee wee leagues race and sees 4 - 6 yr olds racing and says he wants to do that too. My wife tonight has now told me it is not happening. Was all for it until today, not sure what changed her mind. But she is pregnant and 3 days past her due date so I am not arguing with her It is on hold for now. Was going to be his Christmas present, but I guess it will be his birthday present now instead. By then the hormones will be gone and she will be back with the its a good idea attitude....I hope
  13. Probably going to wait until next yr when he is 4 1/2 now

    Rally Pro doesn't fit DR650

I am already going to get a vasectomy in the next few weeks, one set of balls cut is enough for me. Besides, I like the feeling of the balls (no, not that way), just like that extra little knob to hold my hand on the lever is if raining or in case my hands slip.
