  1. Hi people i guess i shouldant be writting this post as it may give you the impression that im a bit of a , But i thought it was funny so i thought i would share it.. I went down tot he local bike dealer yesterday and brought my self a nice new pair of grips, I took the old ones off and went to put the new ones on but the glue they supplied with the grips had dried up so me being extreamly impatient i thougth if use superglue.. I know Well as i pushed the grip onto the throttle i didant notice but the super glue managed to squish its way into my throttle slide and when i pushed the grip further up is squished its self into the throttle cable caseing.. Well as a result of this i ended up stripping the whole lot down and cleaned up all of the glue and regreased everything, So i wont me aking that mistake again, I guess the moral of this story is that if you need anything doing to your bike dont let me anywhere near it..
  2. Thanks for the info and the links, Thats a great help. Ill try starting it the way you guys have said and hopefully ill have more luck becasue thats a different way to how i was trying it.. Cheers Andy
  3. Hi guys being new to the thumper world im still trying to get the knack of starting my 1999 YZ400, I know you need to pull in the decompressor lever until you reach top dead centre but how do i know when ive reached it...? The way ive been doing it so far is pulling in the decompressor and slowly kicking the kickstart all the way down until it will not go anyfurther then bring it back up and let go of the decompressor lever and kick it, For the last 3 weeks its started ok but its began to get a bit more difficult to start, So i just wanted to hear someone elses views on the way im starting the bike just incase i do it any damage, Im in the middle of giving it a service replacing the oil, oil filter, Spark plug, and air filter.. Any other views would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Andy
  4. Thanks how do they fit onto the bike..? Cheers Andy
  5. Hi people Just wondering if someone could help me ever since i had the bike ive been getting real bad vibrations comming through my handle bars its really bad on the palms of my hands i can only ride for about 15 mins before it gets to bad to carry on, Ive tried all of the engine bolts and thier all tight, Is thier something i can do to help soak up these vibrations and if thier is where can i get it from.. I thought about gell grips..? Cheers Andy
  6. Hi guys thanks for replies thats great info just what i need.. Mk porn thanks for the help im not sure how long its been since the last service but i was told that it was recently, And i know that the bikes last 2 owners were real 4 stroke enthusiasts, So its been looked after.. Rocked thanks for that picture thats a big help.. Cheers Andy
  7. Hi everyone ive had the YZ 400 for little over a month now and ive used it 4 times since up the track.. love the bike but unfortunatly i havent got myself a user manual for it yet so i was wondering if anyone could help me out.. Ive got the oil change and the new plug worked out i can do that.. Im sure i can sort out the airfilter but im a bit lost as to where to change the oilfilter im a bit of a newb when it comes to 4 strokes so could anyone point me in the right direction to where to find it...and any tips to do while im going over it..? Thanks very much for your help.. Cheers Andy
  8. Hi not being funny but you should of known that this thread was going to turn out.... Thier are alot of people on here who take thier dirt bikes very seriously and alot of the member on here are mature, If you was speaking to a buntch of kids then they would all agree with you.. But as mature adults they will obvioulsy do the right thing and tell you what you are doing is wrong, Ive done the whole rideing on the roads things and yes its a great buzz to get into a police chase.... I still do not have a licence and i have a very un healthy obsession for bikes, Ive never been without one which is why now i make sure I stick to the tracks only, Which works for me as long as im rideing a bike then im happy... What you need to do is to start thinking about what happens if it all goes wrong you come blasting around a corner with a cop car behind you and a little kid steds out.. At this point normall stopping distances nolonger apply being as your doing 3 times the speed limit, So slowing down in a quick sitiuation will not happen if you lock up the you will still hit them, If you swearve to miss them, You will probably go out of controll and take out someone on the other side of the street.. No matter what you think about your self getting hurt start thinking about other people.. because if you kill some kid or women, That would change your life forever....... Im sure you will grow out of it but i just hope you do not have a accident and end up hurting someone else..
  9. Thanks I have encountered this problem a couple of times i put it down to being cold but then it happened when it was hot too, Dont mean to sound ignorant but could you tell me where abouts i would find the ac pump linkage did say im a bit od a newb to the thumpers but im likeing the amoutn of knowledge that you guys have on this bike.. Definatly looks like i have made the right choice. Cheers Andy
  10. Hi guys thanks for the replies.. Ive only had the bike a few weeks and i was told that it had a oil change just before it was sold to me.. I will check the filter on my next day off,,, Just wondering how often should i change the oil?? Yea the power on these things are intense Definatly takes a bit to get used too Must be sooo funny watching me around the track being as i was used to the old 2 strokes ive been taking them around the whole track in the band, Then i get on this thing and i go around most of the track with the front wheels in the air.. Just crack that throttle open comming out of a corner and shes up, Someones getting close behind it must look like its got nos as i give it handful to get away from them and the wheel flys up and i shoot off... Amazing stuff. Verry happy with it.. Cheers Andy

But i cannot ever see me getting bored of this bike.. Just wondering if thiers any things i should watch out for with the YZ as far as maintanance is concerned and any other things that i could do for the bike to ensure i look after the bike properly.. Im a bit new to four strokes as ive mainly had 2 strokes all my life.. Cheers Andy
