    86 XL600RMG Disc Brake Conversion

thanks originaldirt. i missed on the 89 xr600 sale but i think i will follow that lead. Apparently the axle size is the same so if you could modify the swing arm to take the caliper the wheel would slip straight on. I will keep you posted on how i go.
  2. I am looking for someone that might know what the cheapest and easiest way of converting the drum brakes on this old beast to disk brakes. I am an amputee rider and cannot use the rear brake pedal. This bike has a bit of sentimental value so it was my intention to convert the drum brakes if possible to disk brakes and run them (integrated) both off the front brake level. The 86 Model XL600 RMG has 17 inch wheel with cush drive. I am thinking that I may be able to find a wheel that will slip straight on. I have looked at a few on the newer model bikes to try and get an idea of how I might be able to do it. I have also exhausted all my local wreckers trying to get ideas. The closest thing I can find that I think may slot straight in is the new KLR650 cushion drive 17 inch wheel. Has anyone out there done the conversion or have any hints on how I might be able to get it done. Have just found a 1989 Model XR600 with disc brakes front and rear. Does anyone out there know if this will work. The width between the swing arms seems to be about the same. Does anyone know wether the axle sizes are likly to be the same.
