  2. as you mention this i think about it for a minute.. i checked my plug color and its just a golden brown and i never see any smoke coming out of my muffler.. i wonder if i nailed the main jet right on... and just need to mess with my fuel screwthanks for waking me up today! lol

  4. you know that you are jumping quite a broad range of jets.. 142 to 160 is a big jump.. same for the pilot.. jets arent THAT expensive.. pickup a 155 or 152 and see if that does anythingi run 158/58 with the gordons mods and I dremeled out my baffle... bike performs pretty nicely and I havent adjusted that fuel screw yet.. I do need to do that because it slightly hesitates from a slow 1st gear roll and crank the throttle
  5. my buddy is interested in a 4 stroker.. sent you a pm!As far as the XR4 goes, i had a 03 XR250, and that was impressive for me, but my 02 XR400 totally blows it away... It's pretty nimble for the trails I ride, and when I want to go fast, it goes fast!
  6. I too was wondering the same thing and i'll install a switch... I know the stator is putting out electricity when the motor is running, but how is unused electricity a bad thing? It's not going to melt anything right?

  9. I love my XR400... having owned an 83 XR200, 03 XR250, and now my 02 XR400... hands down XR4... sometimes it scares me how much the bike screams with just simple gordon's mods...
  10. i have fat sausage links for fingers and i can hand tighten my plug just fine.. i also put the plug in the wrench first... not sure why its so hard for you to do

  12. im not sure of the sequence either, but full choke and a few kicks... then no choke and the bike actually starts for me on the 1st or 2nd kick after.. no decomp lever used
  13. Where did you order the carb from and if you dont mind me asking, how much did it run ya?
  14. does that piece just float inside the carb??? i remember when i changed my main/pilot jets, that thing didnt really sit flush anywhere, only had a little "u" grooved out for what appeared was the pilot.. im not sure though
  15. wow that seems like overkill.. not sure how much diff michigan is with sea level from jersey.. but i run 158/58 with gordons and the plug looks perfect.. my exhaust baffle is gone too...
