  2. Great story! I've got one similar. My 2nd time riding my buddy and I come to what looked liked(to me at least )a shallow puddle of water about 6' wide 9-10' long in the middle of some pine trees. I thought to myself go around this puddle when I know I can't steer for shit or take the easy way and just go through it.BAD mistake! All I can remember is my front tire going down all of a sudden and me going over the bars and then extreme cold! :eek (It was about 40 degrees out!) I'll admit I was scared shitless when the water rushed into my helmet. That hole had to be about 3' deep. Well needless to say I killed the bike. My friend pulled it out and then took off to get the truck(not without a few laughs ) Man I think that was coldest day of my life. The mud and dirt down my pants didn't help much either.I'll be honest, now I always try to find a way around puddles if I even think for a second they might be deep.
  3. Well, I've pretty much decided to get a new 2006 this winter and would like to hear all the likes and dislikes you might have. Fire away!!
  4. I'm not saying that Dennis Kirk is bad, but when I order something from a web site, I want what I ordered! Long story short, right name of product-wrong design. Anyway I decided to deal with Motorcycle Super Store. Their prices are better, sales service is FAR SUPERIOR, and their shipping is a hell of a lot less.
  5. Now I'm really confused. Just told my buddy I was thinking about getting a klx and he was all "friends don't let friends ride green" etc. He's complaining about the reliability, quality etc. Look, I don't know squat about bikes but I would think a company that has been around for as long as Kawasaki would be doing things right. At the same time I don't want to buy the bike and find out he's right I'd never hear the end of it. Any positive info I could fire back at him with?
  6. Well, I think I'm really starting to lean towards the klx. As far as the suspension goes how important is it to do any mods? Keep in mind I'm riding a 1986 bike at the moment. The suspension is pretty much shot, any good size bump and the back tire hits the exhaust. I'm thinking that even with just stock the klx should ride a lot better. Side note. My buddy finally talked me into getting a pair of boots and man I'm so glad I did. Took a little spill yesterday that would have busted my ankle for sure had I not had them on. Walking around with a hell of a limp today, but at least I'm walking! I'll never underestimate the need for protection again.
  7. Sorry about that, the Honda is a 4 stroke. I've been reading a bit about all the mods for the 300r and it seems like there is quite a few. What would be the most needed for the bike and what would be the cost?
  8. Hey guys thanks for replys. I still have no idea which one I will eventually get. About ready to flip a coin. bds_surf, as far as going bigger, I really don't see the need. The Honda I'm riding now seems to get me around well enough. Not to mention I don't think I'm ready just yet. How about maintence on these bikes. Amount of time, $$, etc. Also, how easy is it to get parts for the two?(I see the ground a little more then I would like to admit ). On a side note, do you guys think that we all look like this under our helmets ?
  9. Hello to all. I've just gotten started into off-roading and man I've got to say it's great. At the moment I'm riding my friends 1986 Honda 250r. Needless to say the bikes getting on in years and I now think I'm ready to get my own. Which brings me to my ?. Could anyone give me some pros & cons for each bike?(2005 models). The choice is really satrting to get to me. I weigh about 190lbs and am 6' tall. The trails I ride on have a little bit of everything. Powerlines, sandpits, open streches etc. Any help would be great. Thanks. hvy1
