Getting in shape to race Baja 1000

Thanks for the info, I have started training and don't smoke, I have cut back on the beer, Whew that'll be a hard one to quit but I know my bike will not be the weakest link, so I want to do whatever it takes to give myself the best chance of finishing well.
  2. Hello, I've been out of racing now for few years and have started getting back into it slowly. A friend and I are planning on racing the Baja 1000 in 2008 and I was wondering if you could help me with a workout routine geared toward endurance racing such as this. Thank you .

Anyone from up here ever race the Baja 1000?

I have never been to Baja before, But have been racing motorcycles and snowmobiles for the better part of my life and think I have a good idea of what I am getting into, I am sure Baja has its own unique challenges and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about them, But it's a cross country race and anything can happen. I would like to find out who the best pit service is to hire? My local dealer thinks he can get me a spot in the Honda pits. My partner and I will be down there for about two weeks before the race to learn as much of the course as we can (I think learning the night portions of the course will be the most important). We are unsure of where to stay while we are down there and will have to find out far enough in advance to either make reservations or know where to park our truck & trailer for camping, anyway if you have any info for us it would be much appreciated thanks.
  4. My friend and I are planning on racing the 1000 in 2008 on an XR650. I have been trying to gather as much information on where to stay while we are there, We are probably going to sleep in the trailer that we haul our bikes down there in. Is there anything out of the ordinary that we should expect or bring with us? I have a diesel truck and don't know if fuel is available at most of their gas stations. These are only a few of the things that we need to find out before we head down there, So if anyone from up here can help us out we would appreciate it.

    Which size I.M.S. tank 3.2/4.0?

That is kind of what I figured about the tanks. If I hire a pit service will they have dry break fillers at each pit do you Know?
  6. I am planning on racing the Baja 1000 in 08 and am wondering which tank to go with on my BRP. Is the 3.2 not enough capacity? Is the 4 too bulky? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Oh ya is the dry-break worth getting?
  7. Does anyone know if a Pro Circuit Muffler will match up with an FMF power-bomb header on my 04 XR650? I have the Pro Circuit muffler already and can get a really good deal on the FMF header but can't return it once I buy it.
  8. Thanks for the info, I know that I have allot planning to do for the race and I am trying to get started on some of the stuff that I might be able to get out of the way now, Like finding the best places to stay, Finding out what we will have to deal with at the border and other stuff I've read about like Mexican insurance? I live up in northern Ontario, Canada and as much as I would love to go down to ride Baja with you guys, My race partner and I will be limited to going down for a couple of weeks before the race in 08,
  9. Thanks for the advice, We plan on going down about two weeks before the race to pre-run and hope we can hook up with some experienced Baja racers who might not mind us tagging along.
  10. Hey, My buddy and I are planning to race the 08 Baja 1000 and are wondering who you have to contact for the Honda pits, and how far in advance we might have to reservepay for a spot in them? Also I have read a couple of threads on this subject and opinions seem to vary greatly on which pits are the best. I am wondering if there are any kind of pits for hire for pre running and which may be the best, Thanks for your help

    Oil sight tube for BRP

I guess with the engine off the oil would just drain down the line back into the motor not really giving a correct reading at all

    Oil sight tube for BRP

It is my understanding that the oil pressure on the 650 would not exceed 60 psi. So what I am thinking on doing is cutting a piece out of my oil delivery line and splicing in a piece of translucent hydraulic hose. To me this would seem to be an easier solution to drilling holes in my frame and am wondering if anyone has gone this route?
