Really need a used frame for my z400, with or without title!! email me if you have anything, thanks! grant@computerbasedsolutions.biz
  4. using 87, brand new air filter, when you start it up the quad idles fine, and you can rev it up to proble when it isnt in gear, but when you have it in gear and try and give it alot of gas to shoot forward it just doesn't want to go or do anything,
  5. Hey, I have a 2003 z400, HMF Pipe with the jet in the carb that the pipe came with, uni air filter with lid and snorkel still on. The quad bogs down when i try to accelerate fast or get it anywhere past about a quater or half way. I'm not too far about sea level, not sure exactly. I have never touched the needle so i am guessing it is still stock. Any help on what i should adjust would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Checked the choke cable and it seems to be good. Could you give me some help on what to check with the floats and how to fix them? I tried that shaking the quad thing again, and if i shake it side to side it always dies out. Thanks.

Bought it in upstate new york. I'm not at any high elevation or anything. I got the quad for DIRT cheap!! I am going to try and check the choke cable also like you recommended.

Thanks for the advice everyone... I ordered new air box, air filter, jets, and exhaust. Should be here by friday. I am going to fix all that and see if i still have a problem and go from there. About the floats? I am mecahnically inclined meaning if someone shows me how or whatever I can fix something, but I don't know what the floats are or how I might need to adjust them. Any advice? Also how would I know that the float is the problem? Thanks.
  10. Hi, Newbie here...I posted this in the z400 section and was recommended to post it here and ask for burned's help!! Just purchased a 2003 Z400 this weekend. However I am having some problems. first off I can get the bike to start and idle as long as I leave the choke on about half way. If i turn it down any more than half way it dies, i can turn it down and ride it as long as I dont stop giving it gas, but the second I stop it dies. Next iproblem is whenever i put it into gear (1st) i have to rev it real high in order for it to not die out. Also If the bike is in neutral idling (choke is on half) and i get on the bike and it shakes at all it dies. Any bounce or movement kills it. Also the bike was popping and backfiring, but when i adjusted the fuel mixture knob out it got better. Was told it was running to lean. Next the air box has no lid. I made a temporary lid while i am waiting for the one i ordered. Also I'm not sure if this is how it is supposed to be, but the carburator has no actual mount. It is of course attached with the tube from the air filter and the other tube going into the engine, but you can move it with your hands (only slightly) and see that it is kind of floating off of those two large hoses. I know this sounds like alot, I just really want to get riding but can't figure it all out. The bike is ridable, you just have to keep the choke half on and always be revving it high, almost always when you get off the gas it comes down and dies. Any help would be greatly appreciated. New to all this and could really use any and all advice from all you pros! Thanks. oh also it has a stock muffler and as far as i know stock air filter and no aftermarket jets.

Yeah, I joined Z400central and posted the same problem there. I meant that i dont think it is aftermarket. I ordered a whole new air filter box, plus a new air filter, i also ordered a HMF exhaust that says it comes with the required jets. So I am hoping when I put all this together that it solves my problem. but then I was told by someone else that it could be the timing or an electrical problem. I think it must have something to do with the fuel/air system. I just thought i would throw it out there and see if anyone else had any suggestions. Thanks for the reply!
