  1. Thanks for all the info. Its much appreciated. I am going to do the replacing myself.Just cant afford the labour costs od a mechanic.Money is always tight here in South Africa. If there are any points to look out for could you please warn me before I dismantle my darling. Cheers.
  2. So I bought new chain and sprockets and tyres for my 1997 xr600r last week.Got back all stoked and started to take off old chain and sprockets...only to discover my front sprocket shafts teeth 90% worn away.I bought the bike 2 yrs ago 2nd hand.I only use it for commuting and as this is the first time I have replaced the drivetrain I only picked it up now. Does anyone have advice as to where the best place to get a new shaft would be and also what gaskets and seals I should get before starting this nightmare job? Thanks in advance.
  3. SORRY. I am an idiot.Just searched the forum and found lots of posts about this. SORRY again.
  4. Good morning all. My xr loves cutting out when I close the throttle(at a stop street for eg.) Gets better when its warmed up but otherwise I have to constantly blip it to stop it stalling. Is this common or is there a cure. Thanx in advance.
  5. Got it fitted and oh boy,the neighbours must hate me now cause it roar.Feels great to.Its not like it has a huge boost in power but it is spread more evenly through out now.Rocking
  6. Thanks mate.
  7. Hi there all.Just Bought the fmf Ti4 muffler and midpipe for my 1997 xr600r.I use 97 octane petrol in it.Do I need to do any rejetting for it or does it work straight out the box?I am from south africa and we only got rid of leaded petrol at the beginning of this year.I know its shocking. They have some sort of replacement agent for the lead so apparently no tuning necessary to compensate.Your advise is always appreciated.

  10. Hi there all.Real simple question for you guys.I want to upgrade my sprockets. What effect do combinations between bigger or smaller rear and front sprockets have regarding performance?Anything else I should be aware of? Your advice is always appreciated.
  11. Thanks a lot for help.Be prepared for many more dumbfounding questions.Unforetunately mechanincs don`t like teaching potential clients.
  12. Hi there Before I start let me just tell you that I just bought my first bike ever and i am a complete clueless novice. My question is,what is jetting? I know this is ultra elementary, but I gotta start somewhere. Thanks for your patience
  13. Thanks for that all.Of course I had to choose winter to visit the states.Straight from seering summer to ice.
  14. Hi there all. I am an xr rider in sunny south africa. I am coming to the states in december to visit in-laws and wanted to do some shopping while there as biking stuff is half the price there. I am going to be in Connecticut and was wondering if there are any bike shops there you could suggest or good mail order sites? Happy riding
