Needle bearings on drain plug magnet

If it was mine, that bike would be on Craigs list so fast it would be on before I had the chance to wash the oil off my hands. Time to upgrade, asap.
  2. One more time to get this to the top of the list. Wouldn't it be nice to open a spread sheet and type in your the hours, miles and date and what maintenance you did?
  3. Does anyone have the service schedule for a exc r 450 on a computer file they can share? I have it in the book but it would be nice to have in on a spread sheet so I tweek it and I can log my services. Thank you

    Grearing ratio question

Ok here is my gearing history if anyone cares. After trying the stock 15/45 It was way too tall, useless, 14/45 was still tall but would be fine for street and fast 2 track, It should had been the stock street gearing. 13/45 worked ok but for me it was still a little fast for tight woods. 13/50 It would be great for woods only riding (around here we have steep, mud, rocks and roots) but with the stock chain it tore up my shock mud guard. So I settled on 14/50 with a new longer chain. I can still put threw the woods just fine and still ride fast desert 2 track and on the road no problem.

Who has motor Issues with your 09 EXC?

I got it at Skagit Power Sports. I am not worried about it really. Like a guy said earlier it is basicly a racing bike with a licence plate. I expect to work on the top end just like any other dirt bike I have owned. It is no big deal and expected. Just wondering if guys are running out of oil and blowing the things up. I haven't read about anyone sizing the bikes or blowing them up so I am guessing issue is resolved.

Who has motor Issues with your 09 EXC?

Yes, as my thread reads, I have been reading about all those problems with the new motor on the EXC. That is what got me to start this thread. I was just wondering if it is the norm with all the new motors still, or just the first 2000 in 08, or if now it is just a few vocal folks with engine problems? I am just trying to get a feel for what I am up against. If it appears that they all have problems I will run the piss out of the thing for the next year under warranty and have the dealer deal with it. If not Ill ride it now and then like I plan. I have other bikes to ride too. I dont want to only put 40 hours on it in a year and have the warranty run out and then, find out I am screwed.

03 525 cutting out after 2 mins running

    Clogged Pilot jet?
  8. I just got a deal on a new 09 450 EXC. I love it. Still in break in and I have about 10 hours on it. I jetted it and got her running great. But After reading about the oil transfer issues with 07 and 08 and crankshaft primary drive nut problems on here and KTMtalk, I am wondering what the heck did I just do buying this thing? I wonder if these motor problems got fixed in 09? Please tell me they did. Thanks guys.

    Gearing ratio question

HA ha thats good. The scary thing is I was following you. Humm not sure I am worried about the weight to inertia at this point. But sounds like if I leave the smaller back one on Ill have the advantage over those big $100+ orange and black spockets these guys have. )

    Gearing ratio question

I ride in all terrain. I live in Anacortes so we have some trails you can putt around here. Putting because of hikers and whatnot. So I ride around town and Ill ride single track at walker valley, you know steep, slippery roots and rocks after I get my first scratch or 2 on my new bike. Also out in the desert outside of Bend OR for high speed stuff. I want to get it set up eventually after a wear this set out to get a setup where I can switch the front sprocket out for woods and swap it out again for street/desert.

    Grearing ratio question

Orange is the reason why it took me so long to buy a KTM. Ha ha he he. It is growing on me. I keep telling myself, "orange looks ok." But man the orange bike flys!

    Grearing ratio question

Darn it cliffsherman you blew it for me. I wanted that fancy KTM orange and black, steel on the outside alloy in the middle sprocket the parts woman tried me to sell me. I think it was $100+ "All the KTM guys are using this" she said. Yea right sign me up, not.

    Gearing ratio question

You DRZ guys know your stuff here so I thought I would ask you guys this question. I sold my beloved DRZ and YZ and I bought a 09 450 EXC. Love it! The bike came with 15 front 45 rear sprockets. Stupid gearing. After much research It seems most people seem to run 14 front, 50 rear for a 3.57 ratio. That requires throwing away brand new sprockets and the chain and buyinmg new$$$$. I see that 13 front and stock 45 rear would get me close, at 3.46. My questions is and probably a dumb question, If the ratio was the same would there a difference in torque at the wheel using a different combo of getting to that ratio final ratio?
  14. This thing won't let me fix my Grearing typo (Gearing)! I bought a 09 450 EXC. The bike came with 15 front 45 rear sprockets. Stupid gearing. My questions are is, and the first is probably a dumb question, If the ratio was the same would there be a difference in torque at the wheel using a different gearing combo getting me to that ratio? #2 would 13/45 fit just fine?
