Budget Top End Rebuild? On a Budget.

Corona .. but I think my cylinder should be good. And I'd prefer to get a new piston and rings . Just looking for the best deal... Lot of guys are looking for performance upgrades . But I prefer reliability over performance upgrades.... I've gotten some good ideas that will help me start searching .. I will return and post pricing for the different options when I get a chance to research..... Thanx guys.....

So what wears out ? Is it the valve or the valve seat? I can just put the new valves in and leave the existing valve seats or does that kit have something for that? Will I have to buy special tools?

Budget Top End Rebuild? On a Budget.

Ok guys .. I got a wife , kids & mortgage AKA I have No Cash. My 00 kick-start version DRZ has about a million miles or so ... Compressions down.. one valve is nearing the end of its adjustment life... Looking at a valve job and piston and rings. Where can I get good piston and ring set for the least money. And what ever gaskets and stuff I'll need ? Where would be the the cheapest place to have the valves done. my local dealer said they won't change just one they have to do them all... They quoted me a pretty high price....... I'm in so cal......

Surging and draging feeling after running good for 11 years ?

Hey I'm back. Boy this DRZ is a tired girl..... NOW after 13 years of MX , Des , Enduro and tons of Dualsport miles. Kinda went through the same thing. Was running poorly hard to start old gas blah blah blah. Went to check valves and they were out again... now rightside intake shim is at 2.40 mm ... ugh . comp check is showing 90 psi .... ad to that.... Suspension previously setup for Des racing by RG3 needs service . The frame which cracked near the head-tube and was welded has shown signs of the crack returning.... Looks like I'm looking at a top end , new piston , rings & cam chain , Suspension service , and frame repair or replace. I had the choice last year to rebuild this bike or Get a newer bike. I ended up getting an 05 RMZ450. The RMZ is awesome but nothing will ever replace this DRZ. I want to keep it running for dualsporting for now and the RMZ can fill in the rest.. Cash is nonexistent at the moment (wife & kids) so the search for the most economical way to revive the DRZ begins........ I would love to do a full teardown and rebuild it from the ground up.... Anyway I cannot recall What the popular jetting was/is for an E/Y model with full Yosh pipe (middle screen)?? I did it when Eddie Sisneros was still Burned ....lol , I used to be MoToHead or something back in 2000 Its jetted to whatever that was , but I have messed with the Fuel screw and don't remember what the fuel screw setting should be for this pipe and jetting????? Where's the best "affordable" place to get the head work done?? Will a new piston , rings , camchain and gaskets be all I need?? Cylinder should be coated right ? requiring no service??

    7-11 RMZ,, transformation

I wonder if I could shove a plastic IMS desert tank in there. If it was a new tank I maybe able to heat it with a heat gun and let it form itself.............

    Fork Bleeders don't fit .?.?.?

I'm not sure what I'll do. But if any body does a search maybe they will find this before they spend money and screw something up. Thats all I'm saying let me know if anybody has experience with this. Thanx Guys.

    Fork Bleeders don't fit .?.?.?

Long Story Short (Longer) ...... I bought an 06 RMZ the bleeders on it interfered with moving the bars forward. Thought I'd switch them with the bleed screws on the DRZ. But they were the tall kind. And didn't seem to fit the DRZ either ( I thought they were hitting the bars on DRZ too). Found some Motion Pro Micro Bleeders on ebay $12. So I got two pair (a set for each bike) They went on the RMZ easy and I was having a bit of trouble with the DRZ ( Kinda boogerd em up) Then I noticed they interfered with the cap nut. I hadn't read of this and was wondering . I thought for sure someone else would have reported this if it was comon. I bleed my forks every time I ride. I use my DRZ for everything. Racing Desert , Enduro's , GP's(Motocross) Trail riding and Dual sport. But I always race prep the bike whatever the ride. Was how I was taught . Now I have the RMZ for racing so I don't need the bleed valves as much as I did . It would have been nice to know before I spent $12 and screwed the bleed valves up . I'd still like to have em , just to make it easier..... To make them fit I wouldn't have to take much out . Maybe 1/16" not the whole side just at the center.

    Fork Bleeders don't fit .?.?.?

Thats a good Idea. I was just wondering if its common...... I have a 2000 kick model and thought maybe the newer forks are different. Kinda boogered up the bleeders trying to get them in before I realized the problem ...

Bad cell pic over head of fork tube. It interferes with the center of the fork cap...
