I did this last week. It's not that bad. My only problem was getting the spring seat apart. I couldn't tell it was two pieces. Once I tapped on it and got it apart, the circlip came right off and the spring slid right off. Slapped the Race Tech spring on and it went back together fine.
Do it. You'll get a lot of respect just for showing up on it. Probably even a trophy for being in your own class. Two of my riding buddies in NC did that at Yadkinville a few years ago. Buy a new set of tires that suit the terrain. You'll be glad you did.
