  1. I've searched this forum for valve clearance info for my 2000 TE610e , it seems that .004in inlet & .006in exhaust is recomended. My Husky "TE410, 610E ,SM610S owners manual" states .002in for both inlet & exhaust !!?? Confused............Help
  2. Hi All, I've been given this bike as a non runner, I found it had the bolt holes on the end of the cam to cam sprocket broken due to some previous ham fisted "repair", the sprocket/cam bolts had been tightened with the sprocket not seated properly on the cam, which eventually lead to the failure of lobes that the sprocket bolts to. Anyway, in my efforts to locate a small piece broken off the cam I took the clutch cover off to get a look in the bottom of the motor. The problem I have is, when I removed the clutch cover I dislodged the auto decompresser "cam" that is splined on the kickstart shaft. If anyone knows what I'm talking about could you tell me its orientation, it has a protrusion with a very small square stamped on it, I've studied it and guessed this is supposed to point "12 O'clock". Good guess? Oh yeah, I know, I need a manual! Just realized, this is a european XL250R, think this was a XR250L in the states? (87 with the red motor)

1987 XL250R Kickstart decompresser mech orientation?

Just to help anybody else in the future doing a search, the only thing I've found is a parts diagram which shows the kick start decompressor cam, it shows the orientation but no markings, will check later but I think there is a center punch mark that should go to "12 O'clock", that wil make the square mark about "2 O'clock". Anyone confirm this? Or is everyone

Crustquez , don't want to highjack the thread but what was the outcome of your engine noise?, must be at least 6 months ago, you had a noise then vibration, was it the balance shaft nut after all?, your last post you were taking it to get it looked at. Haven't been able to sleep all this time just waiting to know what happened!

    Husky goes to Dakar '07!

Did'nt even get a chance to say hello , was typical spectator madness , grown men running around with camera/phones like little kids getting all excited, yesterday they would'nt have known a Dakar vehicle if it ran them over ! Saw them arrive but could'nt get close , just happy to see them ride in , that was good enough. Where abouts is your shop in Portugal & whats it called ?

Can go Portugal direction instead (border about 5 hours away) ,also got bike trailer. Husky goes to Dakar '07!

Don't know if this is any use , I'm going to Malaga tomorrow (I'm about an hour away), if there short of anything & are going to get there let me know , long shot but I may be able to help. I have good access to shop tools & materials (mechanic) & my old TE610 would be willing to donate parts (don't suppose thats much help). Thought I'd offer anyway.

    Sorry , valve clearances , again ! 2000 TE610

Typical UK Cristmas weather then !! Been sunny here today (Costa Del Sol) , bout 18c , though I went to Gibraltar where the rock often has a bit of cloud attatched to it , so a little overcast at times. So bloody typical Brits talking about weather !!

My manual is newer than the bike ? , can't find a date on it , it was bought by the previous owner so could that spec be for newer models ?.

    Will a husky tolerate 8k + miles a year?

I'm curious to know what milage people have had out of a Husky 4 strokes before something major has gone wrong (terminal) & what it was ?. If your talking about 8 thou a year , how many years are you expecting out of it , how many miles do you think its reasonable to expect ?. After all it is really a road orientated/modified competition motor , comp motors often trade off a bit of longevity for a bit more performance. I know its a "how long is a piece of string" question because of the infinate variables , servicing , type of use ,etc , but lets imagine mixed mild road & trail , proper oil change intervals with quality oil & filter , whats your guess ?.

    te610e motor strip ?

Just drained the oil on my 2000 te610e & found what resembles about a third of a small bright steel washer & some swarf http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/images/smilies/&%$#@!.gif . Its only been about 250 miles since I last changed the oil , which leads me to belive this has happened very recently , the motor is not making any unusual noises. The first thing I've done is check all the filters ,the paper filter has very light "glitter", not much , the left hand mesh had slightly larger particles , again not much , & the mesh filter behind the clutch had nothing on it (I've never cleaned this !) , the bikes odo says 6000 miles , don't know if this is true , I've put about 1000 of that on. When I was looking at the left side filter I noticed I could push & pull on the gearchange lever and get about 3/8 of an inch movement , when pushed fully in (now touching the case) I found it could be "disengauged" , sort of un-hitched & moved freely up & down a long way. I'm not familier with the inards of this gearbox but I'm pretty sure these two things are related !. I know there are some pretty clued up people on this forum so any advice would be very greatly appriciated. Looks like the motors going to need splitting ? yes. Thanks , Carl.
