    Where to look first,

iv marked accross the chain with a marker, just hope it holds. I couldnt see any real damage on the headgasket or seals, would it be just to replace and rebuild or do i need to get head skimmed (im 75% sure the leak was the water pump due to the sheer volume of water in the oil) Also, On my 98, theres no expansion chamber.... so where does the water go when it expands? could this have been what blew the seals?

    Where to look first,

    Where to look first,

I currently have a 98 WR400 lump on my bench, all i know is that it had water problems that were fixed then the oil turned milky, im not too sure how much riding was done but it was only a few days. So wheres the oil leaking.. can anyone give me tips on how to find out, My limited experience tells me wither water pump or head gasket (engine maybe ran dry) Or is there somewhere else i should be looking? Cheers Dan

  6. Hi guys, my WR400 98 model. (i know its old) has had a bit of a rough time of late and has just had a full engine rebuild, on putting the bike backtogether i found the slider cracked! (second carb iv had), anyway approx £600 ($1200) later im stiill not riding. anyways iv found a 2002 WR 426 carb for a bargain price nearly new? Will it fit ? Will it be a pain to get the fueling right as my bike is a 400? Does the slider go on the 2002 ones? Cheers for you help Cheers! Dan

Simple Question! - tighter or looser?

Thanks for the quick reply! could it be anything todo with (what i think) is the automatic hot start?,
  12. Hi guys, hope you can help me, im over in sunny england (very close to sea level) if that helps my question. Basically iv got a 98WR thats just undergone a complete engine rebuild and a new carb (well from breakers)- dam slider, i think its off a 99 as it has an extra bit that Ts into the hot start. Anyway after a day of building it up, it started! but its idleing VERY high even though idle screw is at minimum and iv checked all my cables, and that the hot starts not on. the pilot screw is a 1 and 3/8th turns from thumb tight. Is this my fueling? do i need to go tighter or looser? Thanks in advance
  13. So if my AP Jet is is naffed the only solution is a new carb?
  14. it looks quite worn (battered) and has play in it , can move it up and down about 1mm. does it come out? Regards Dan
  15. Hi there! long time reader of your excellent forum , my first post is asking for help! On sunday (98 WR 400) my bike just suddenly started to struggle and splutter / backfire like it was short of fuel, after just about making it home i cleaned all the jets check needle etc and got quite allot of gunk out. the bike now starts and idles but just splutters and stalls when you hit the throttle. So i looked at that little nipple that squirts the fuel... its not squirting! it used to becasue if had an eye full of petrol before. the pump is good but the head of the jet looks worn, iv i put a srynge to the feeder and i can get a very small amount of liquid to come through if i really force it. but no long fine jet. Is this replaceable (i cant work out how)...please help i cant afford a new carb! Regards Dan
