Walker Valley Access - Bear Creek Mainline.

Alright thanks guys. I am planning on testing my vintage motocross bike up there and there are some good runs up in there for some full throttle pulls. Guess I get to trail ride it there first!
  2. Can you access Walker Valley from the Bear Creek Mainline off of the Lake Cavanaugh road? The last time we were up there, the entrance road was blocked. Thanks for any info you all have.

    Yamaha TT500 1979

My TT500 started with a 1979 XT500 motor and a 1979 TT500 frame and tank. I used a set of 1979 YZ400 38mm Forks up front with a 1980 RM400 rear swingarm. This give it around 10-11" of travel front and back. I race in some local vintage motocross events throughout the year with it and have a blast.

    XR200R Rear Hub Width

    Thanks guys !

    XR200R Rear Hub Width

I am working on a project and need to find a rear hub that will fit the swingarm i am using. It is a rare RM400 swingarm used a specific rear hub. I am trying to find a suitable replacement that is narrow enough to fit. Could some one take a quick measurement of the width an XR200R rear hub from a 1985 to a 1996 XR200R? That would help me a lot. Thanks!

I love this bike. Great in the trails and great in the desert. I put a 2001 CR250 front end on it, modified exhaust, and a pumper carb then left it stock. It runs great and hauls the mail!

  9. Alright boys, help me out. I am building a Yamaha HL500 replica and i got my hands on a 1980 Suzuki RM250/400 swing arm, the problem is i need a wheel. The stock TT500 wheel won't fit this swing arm because it is too narrow. Does anyone know what other hubs other than the RM250/400 hub will fit this swing arm? I am kind of stuck right now. I will get dimensions tonight of the swing arm. Thanks!

    DESERT 100 VS WALKER VALLEY

I rode my xr400 in 2010 in the race and had a blast. strong tires are a must. I run a motoz 130/90-18 rear at about 10-12 pounds a 90/100 -21 kenda washougal up front with about 15 pounds. I broke my kickstarter off at pivot joint 5 miles into the race. Luckily i was on a hill so i was able to compression start it, finish the lap and came to the pits. I jumped off and 4 random guys grabbed my bike threw it up on a stand and were topping it off with fuel. I was sitting on the cooler thinking there is no way in hell i am going go out and do another lap. My buddy who was there asks me you are going to finish right? At this point I am thinking, why not, i made it 45 miles without the kickstarter, why not another 50? So i softened up the suspension settings, they gave me a push and off i went. Finished with a slow time but had a blast. Plan to do it again this year.

    Replaced XR400 - boo hoo

I have told this story a couple of times for various reasons on this forum but i think it needs to be said again. I have modified my 400 in a couple different ways; 2001 cr250 forks, exhaust, eddie pumper, etc. the thing is awesome. love the bike. side note: i just started it today after not riding it for 6 months, (broke some parts and was really busy), fired on the 3rd kick, putted up the street, turned around, floored it, wheelied through 3rd gear. pulled it back, through her in the shed. floats are stuck, need to fix that. lol not bad for it sitting for a while. anyway, back to the story, i was riding up in northern washington at a gravel pit the loggers use to get gravel for the roads. awesome hill climbs. not very long, but very steep. there were some guys that had been around earlier on crf250r/x's that were dinkin' around in there too. at the top of the hill climbs there was the trail that went back down. i watched one guy go up the hill, inevitably slipping the clutch at the top to keep it in the powerband, he made and i thought he had started to go back down, but instead he just kind of moved over to the side where i couldn't see him from below. so start i take off, pound 3rd gear at the bottom of the hill climb and just pour the coal to her. i get about 3/4's of the way up and i see the guy riding by right where i was about to pop up to the trail. Everything to slow down right here i cut the throttle he looks over with fear in his eyes (awesome!), i realize that he is far enough away that i won't hit him. so at the last minute i jab the throttle, couldn't have been far off idle rpm, in third and carry the front wheel in the air up and over the edge of the hill climb. bike just goes thump, thump, thump, thump, and over the edge she goes. i grab the clutch as soon as my back tire clears and land it. he just looked at me and shook his head in disbelief that i just lugged a wheelie up and over the top of this hill climb. i asked him, "can your bike do that?" He said, "not like that!" I responded, "well that's why i keep this old thing. can't do that with a short stroke 4-stroke." I then proceeded to lay waste to the hill climb following the guys up all of the different lines and making them. it was very gratifying. lol I figure the bike in it's own right is kind of a handicap; it isn't the most modern bike, but if i can ride it and perform the same, if not better than someone on a modern bike, I feel like i have become a more capable rider because of it. I won't give up on the big until she falls apart on me. I have a feeling that is going to extensively modified before i get rid of it. 440 big bore, revamped rear suspension, e-start, etc. who knows?

    Pumper carb worth it?

Mine doesn't cough anymore at low rpms. i can crack it while it is lugging below idle and it will go and not cough. no need to slip the clutch or anything. it is really nice. i find that the carburation is just better through the rpm range. i pulls harder and longer though the powerband. starting is a definitely although i don't find myself dealing with it as much since the bike doesn't stall as often. lol In fact, back in April i did a 100 mile desert race that was pretty technical and i broke my kickstarter off in the first five miles. i wasn't going to stop because of it, so i compression started it and kept going. it never died. even when i thought it would have it kept going. i got to the pits (two 50 mile laps) and shut it down. we fueled it up, compression started it again and i did the next 50 miles without it again. it would have died at least 12 times during that race if i had had the stock carb. that's an experience that has sold me on the pumper carb.

    Pumper carb worth it?

just do it. it made all of the difference in the world and my stock carb was setup practically perfectly. I got an edelbrock but they are discontinuing the line so it isn't an option anymore. but my dad got the mikuni and it is a great addition. starting is incredibly easy now and makes it even better in the trails. Highly recommend it.

XR 400 smell on my clothes after ride....

check the header to mid pipe gasket to make sure it is sealing properly. that leak could get you smellin' pretty rank after a while.
