    Best Missouri Riding areas

    Kibblewhite valves update

    I have a 04' CRF250x and replaced the intake valves with some steel kibblewhite valves at the beginning of last summer and haven't had any valve problems since. Before that I was reshimming ALOT. I ride offroad quite often and run the bike as a dualsport as well. The scuttlebutt I heard is that the stock titanium intake valves were not provided with a harder outer layer which is why they wear out so quickly. The exhaust valves are already steel which is why most people don't have as many problems with them (just what I've heard and from my own experience). The kibblewhites were about $90 for both the intake valves if I remember correctly. The only downside (again, only what I've heard) is that the engine won't rev out as much because the steel valves are heavier. To be honest, I didn't notice since it ran so much better with valves that were in spec.

    Dual-sporting w/ Baja Designs kit

    I have pretty much the same setup that you are asking about.. I bought a 04' CRF250X and put a baja designs kit on it about 9 months ago. I ride the bike to school most days(about 5 miles) and at the most I get it up to about 55 mph. I also ride offroad quite a bit so it sees both spectrums fairly evenly. The BD kit was not that hard to install and works good but was very expensive as well. It comes with a new headlight/ front number plate, and a taillight assembly. As far as durability, everything still works but I do remove the rear taillight and signals assembly when I ride offroad cause I'm afraid it would get ripped off if I crashed. As far as the bike handling the road use ok, the bike burns a bit more oil than I think it should but from reading the forums on here it seems to be a common problem. The valves were a real pain when I first bought the bike (re-shiming alot) but I replaced the intake valves with some steel kibblewhite valves at the beginning of last summer and haven't had a problem since. The stock gearing works OK for what I do, but if you're gonna be cruising w/o alot of off-road use I would recommend changing the gearing. I have a buddy who has a suzuki DRZ400s who I ride with alot, and in my opinion it makes a pretty good dual sport. It's damn heavy(about 300 lbs? vs. the 230 or so for a crf250x) and the stock supension is VERY soft for off-road use but it's geared decent for the street, comes stock with all the dual sport stuff, and has passenger footpegs. Anyways, if you want some pics just let me know.

    Places to ride in Missouri

    Just to let you all know, there is a small (200 acre) riding area near Jeff City, mo. I went riding there a couple of weeks ago, and it wasn't half bad. They've got a small "motocross" track out there, and about a 3 to 4 mile loop throught the woods. Doesn't quite compare to some of the other places to ride, but it's close and something new.     DRZ 400S Fork springs. Must go stiiffer

    I think you should definitely go with the stiffer springs. A stiffer spring will be harder to compress which in turn will make it harder for you to bottom out. You may have to mess with the rebound some as it will also decompress faster. Or.. maybe you should get a CRF450R, throw some dual sport tires on it, a taillight and call it a day.

    Swingarm pivot bolt

    I had that same problem with a XR400 i bought. I spent a few days with the sledgehammer, then took it to a car shop where I had six mechanics trying to get the thing out with an impact wrench and an air hammer at the same time. Still, the bolt would not budge but it did rotate. Anyways, I ended up taking it to a machine shop where they tried the same crap to no avail but managed to get it out by some sort of rotary cutting tool via cutting the bolt through the spaces between the swing-arm and the frame/engine casing.
