    TT500 cylinder liner replacement

Can't you just buy a new sleeve from LA Sleeve etc instead of trying to swap it? Or Why not just fleabay another cylinder and use it?

    Good choice of front tire

IRC VE 35 works well and has extra tall lugs that work well in Sand but its not DOT legal. Kenda K270 Dot Legal, IRC TR-1 Trials, Dunlap 606 Pirelli MT21
  3. Yamaha XT550 uses a 5 3/4" headlight. I would replace the stock bulb with a diamond cut clear one from a Harley, and add in a Halogen H4 50/55 bulb. Good Luck on the project.

    tire selection on xt600

IRC 4.00x18 DOT Legal TR-1 (not the TR11) bias ply. Best D/S tire I know of. The Kenda K270 is a great choice too. Ride on.

pre mix ratio for converted Rotax

40:1 should suffice. I've got a water cooled rotax and the book for t calls for 64:1, I like my engines to much to kill it like that. I use to have an ATK250AC (air cooled) and I ran it at 40:1 too. It was a rotary valve Rotax 250 very similar to your Can-Am.
  6. I'm in the planning stages. I've got a YZ490 rolling chassis. Two TT250's and an XT250. Mix them all up. I'm going to put the XT250 engine into the YZ490 frame and if all goes well plate it for a lightweight capable Dual Sport. I'm going to follow another member here and use the YFM350 83mm piston and sleeve. Toss in a Webcam camshaft for added umph. I'm going to use Namura http://www.mfgsupply.com/m/c/NA-40005.html piston. As to the wrist pin being 1mm smaller on the YFM, I'm thinking that a sleeve in the rod instead of reaming out the piston. Its all in the planning stages and getting all the parts put together. Does anyone know what the largest valves are you could fit into the XT head with a large overbore? I'm also trying to source Stainless steel undercut valves. I'm going to port the head for added flow to augment extra 60cc and larger cam. I'll get some pictures later and document the process as it proceeds.

Yamaha Dual Intake System (YDIS) Thread

The YDIS works great when it works. I've found that 99% of my problems with it was related to dirt in the carb. I took everything apart I could get apart and cleaned it all till spotless, then I also used a light oil on the secondary slide/piston to make sure it is sealing well. No more issues except the XT550 YDIS on a TT600 mill makes it run lean and hard to start when cold. So I get to repeat the process and put the TT600 carb on it. As to XT250's my 250's XT/TT are not a YDIS system, just a single pumper carb.

    1980 TT250 Questions

I would suggest avoiding the cast wheels, your working with a 250 not a big bore thumper and the weight of the cast wheels will be excessive. I would find some 17" wheels and order new spokes from Buchannon and lace some 17" wheels for it.
  9. I've thought about the XT500 piston/sleeve route, and I think I'm going to go the Big Bear 350 piston route for 310cc. Plus I found the piston kits on-line for $75. Teflon coated skirts, rings etc. One question, instead of reaming out the wristpin hole for 20mm, I wonder if anyone makes a new bearing that would work? Oh yea, my project bike, YZ490/XT250 cross, I'm going to try and plate it, for a 310cc lightweight capable Dual/Sport.

Hi new here, 85 Xt600 question.

I would suggest searching the HUBB forum, horzinonsunlimited the XT600 has a VERY large following in Europe, mostly cause Yamaha abandoned the US market on the XT600.

    xt550 Sprocket Upgrade?

I just replaced the countershaft sprocket on mine went a step down though, 14th for better single track. Then add in the TT600 torque. :grin I would suggest one step at a time, your going to end up trying to lug the engine otherwise. I would suggest looking at the gearing of the SRX600, should put your fairly close to where you want to be.

    New old tyres?

If its an old Enduro with 21 front and 18 rear. IRC TR-1 DOT Legal trials tire. They handle great too. Don't confuse it with the IRC TR-11 radial.

    Vintage Frankenbike project!!! YZ/XT

I hope you log into your photo bucket account. All your pictures are gone. I'm thinking of a similar project. I found a YZ490 complete chassis and I happen to have an extra TT250 engine. Build a nice tractor of a woods bike from it.

82 XT250 Cam Chain Adjuster Problem

One of two things: Chain is stretched beyond spec. or The rub pad of the tensioner is worn out.
