  2. All suspension is speed sensitive. That's how dampers work. Damping force changes in proportion to how fast the suspension is moving. SSS is just a marketing thing.
  3. Darren from Push Industries explained it to me like this. A development program needs three legs: data acquisition, dyno testing, and field testing. You can learn a lot from each one individually, but they build on each other when combined. It makes perfect sense when you think about it, and it is no surprise that's how all well-funded auto and road race teams do it. This is finally trickling down to motocross, but we are still a long ways behind. My data acquisition stuff still isn't finished but as I promised before I'll post some information about bump and rebound wheel velocities when I have something to report. Thanks to Clicked for keeping this thread going.

    Oh sorry, I didn't mean to cause a panic. I just took a measurement and reported it, nothing more was implied. Maybe the pressure change is not a problem, or a small one. What's more important is that the pressure remains stable after warmup. And the degree to which the operating temperature is affected by the external air temperature. But I do think we'd get a more accurate test cycling it on a dyno with the pressure gauge attached. If I have time tomorrow I'll set it up and report back.

    I measured 12 psi pressure increase after 3 laps on the WP AER 48. From 150 cold to 162.

    2016 KTM 350 SX-F Headshake?

    Increase race sag to 108-110. The 2016 shock springs have been very inconsistent, the listed 48 N/mm springs testing anywhere from 45-49 N/mm. The one you have is borderline acceptable based on your reported sag numbers, though typically I would recommend a lighter spring based on your weight. The manual recommends 40 static/110 race sag. The stock fork springs are 4.8 N/mm, and at 155 lbs you should use 4.6 N/mm. Failing that, the stock 4CS fork can cause headshake. It may need some work if the springs/sag don't cure the problem.

    Vacpump fittings...

    I use 8mm white polyethylene tubing and fittings from this manufacturer: http://www.smcusa.com/smc.aspx. There are many types of fittings, so you need to choose one that suits the application. The manufacturer will provide a vacuum rating, so choose one rated higher than the capacity of your pump. Our pump pulls 29" Hg vacuum, and the fittings are rated for 29.5. Face seal or gasket seal fittings are common for shocks, and obviously choose the thread type that fits your shock.

    Ktm suspension issues

    Try some adjustments first. Set your sag at 115mm. Set fork comp at 20-25, fork rebound 20, shock low speed comp 15, shock rebound 19, shock high speed compression 2.25. You could also reduce the oil height in the fork to 130mm. If those changes are not enough of an improvement, consider contacting a tuner to give you a more compliant, rock-specific suspension setup. The Yamaha WR that you are used to has very soft OEM suspension.

    I assume you are riding tight rocky single track in the northeast. What bike were you riding before the new KTM?
  10. Actually, Clicked has a very advanced understanding of how a shock piston works, probably better than anyone I know. He had to in order to develop a computer model of how they work.   11. Exactly. You specify the rebound and compression velocities, and the machine outputs the force required to achieve those velocities. On the bike, max rebound velocity is less than max compression velocity, so testing a symetical sine wave at high speeds affects the compression stroke in ways that would not occur in the real world. Cavitation on the rebound stroke causes more severe hysteresis on the compression stroke. I don't know what real-world max rebound velocities are yet, but I'm working on it. I'm still very new to this machine so please accept my explanation with caution.

    WP 4CS fork oil level adjustment

    The the fork legs off the bike. Remove the air bleed screw from the fork cap. Invert the fork leg and allow fluid to drain out of the air bleed hole. Measure the volume of oil removed. In this fork, 28cc of oil = 20mm reduction in fluid height. 20mm would be a big change. Drain the same amount out of each leg.
