  1. Been getting ready for this now for a few months, finally setting off tomorrow, bikes had everything dont fork oil fork seals custom bike rack, new plastics, 12v ciggy adapter new sprockets and chain, and new grippy trial tyres, i had a 525EXC KTM before this but Decided the DRZ is a better touring bike due to a better tank range and a more bullet proof engine. anyway i thought id post some pic's up now and post the trip when i return week after next.

    DRZ400s tapping noise

Ive got a 2001 DRZ400s model and there's a tapping noise under rev's, its had a manual cam chain tensioner fitted but may need adjusting, ive also never had the valve gap adjusted, can they be adjusted and if so any idea of the clearence on inlet and exhaust (remember its the S model if that makes a difference) Failing that is there a common problem with the DRZ, i was happy with it until a mate said one day can i hear a tapping, ever since then ive had a twitch everytime i ride it.

Best rear rack for heavy loads on a DRZ...

So i would be right in saying this wouldn't fit the E model as it doesn't have the rear subframe unlike the S model which does have.

road tires on standard e/s rims

Yes you can do that, i had a KTM520exc once and a mate of mine had a DRZ and he was allways on my ass chasing me (oeer) but he is a better rider, but it looks much better with a set of super moto wheels, i had black exel rims with Gold talon hubs on my KTM it looked the muts nut's, youll be looking around £900 to £1100 for the complete setup inc wheels tyres and wavey disks (not the larger disks though) here is a pic of my old 525 below clicky clicky.

Touring in spain from UK the picos mountains

I did run into them once they were on a mountain pass in a 4x4 but to be fair i nodded as i road past and they did the same. Nearly every i spoke to was very helpfule and kind speak highly enough of the spanish people, its sad to say but if your in the uk on a road or dirtbike your frowned on as if your a murderer or rapist, it really gets my goat.

Best rear rack for heavy loads on a DRZ...

Not the Nicest looking thing but saved my panniers as the rear pipe gets very hot, its just 4mm alloy bent around (i used a pipe and hammer to get shape, then measure the original screw holes (6mm) drill em and screw them on using the original heatshield holes, another thing i did which was one of the best mods to date was to use thin perspex cut it around 2x2 then warmed around 4 inches in on either side then warmed it then bent it then trimmed it then gaffer taped it on the headlamp surround to make a wind deflecter, two friends of mine bolted thiers on but i gaffered mine as not to leave holes when it comes off, might not look good but a live saver on long hauls on the motorway while touring. pic's should below Picture showing the original rear exhaust without the original gaurd on The original exhaust with suzuki made exhaust gaurd Some closer pic's the the rear bike rack The front wind deflecter i made
