  1. Yea after speaking to Precision Concepts... I'm just going to keep the stock valving for now and see how it is with the higher spring rate for me (.49). I already pulled my old springs last night. Precision concepts said the cartridge may be a bit different. And that would only be compression, not rebound and or midvalve?? The shims are a different diameter too.. so you cant just swap the valving over. I thought all the valving was in that internal cartridge. Guess I was wrong and there is some more in the actual damper rod assembly? Guess I need to look at a microfiche to really understand. They said I could probably swtich over the entire damper rod assembly though, like you mentioned. The lengths are a tad different but they said it should work (would just overlap a bit) Basically... I'm not going to fart with it. All the parts on my old bike are WELL used. Precision concepts did a great job on that suspension though. I will just run the 06 with heavier springs and stock valving for now, and see how it performs. I will put max oil in outer chamber for bottoming resistance too. Since, that seems to be my main problem. BTW, I bought it from a guy from ProRide. I think you might be a member there too????
  2. Bueller??? Guess I will have to stop being lazy and pick up a phone. Will call Precision Concepts since they did the work I guess....
  3. That's it in a nutshell. Got a new 2006 bike and want to take my fork springs and old valving from my 2002. I think it should al be the same. Plan is to just swap over the internal catridge with valving. Not the damper rod assembly or anything else. The springs are good for a swap from what I can find. So.. can I swap over the cartridge????

    Oil spewing out airbox...blown headgasket?

OK, think i fingered it out. Cant put more than 2x media files per post, eh?? And here's the first time I ever jumped the new scoot. Not sure on distance.. but it's gotta be pretty good being in 3rd gear.

Guess who's back!!???? So... beat the crap outa this biotch even more. Still been having some overheating issues. Replaced pretty much everything in cooling system. So, just been riding it as much as possible without severely overheating it. (blown a few radiator t's in the process)... However, I finally got a new bike. Well a new to me bike. Found this 2006 in a local SoCal moto forum. It's fricking spotless!!! Already took her out to a local spot and put some scratches on it. Just going to buy some radiator guards, a glide plate, and some number plate backgrounds to represent #151 of course. Then ride the poopy out of her. Well, actually i need to tune the suspension better too. And that is what brings me over here. I know my old fork springs will cross over. Going to post a question about the internal cartridge in a few.... since it's valved how I like on my 02... and I clanked the current set up pretty good on the 2006 on the jump I will post video of below. Will the 02 cartridge internals swap over to the 2006? So here's a tribute to my old 2002. She did me well. I can't even think of how many hours are on this thing. One of my last trips. 70 foot step over with my brother. Normally we used to just jump to top... but I knew I could make it all the way over. Big fun! Here's some of a rear facing camera down one of our favorite washes out in Ocotillo Wells, CA And drum roll please.... Here's the "new" 2006. INSANELY clean. And the first time I ever jumped it. Hope this one treats me as well as old faithful

Ummm Earth to Mxkid! That WAS my post showing how I got it all back together and it's running good again. The 58 foot step up picture and vid above is from the third trip on the latest rebuild. Just needed the new top end and cylinder... and new radiators. Oil in airbox/intake was from blow by. Also, back before she blew...I was filling up the radiators every time before I rode. And sometimes would use my camel back on the trail when we stopped. It got worse and worse though... down to where it would only go about 10-15 minutes before blowing steam like a locomotive. But thanks for the get riding soon wishes! I'm definitely getting the most out of this bike as possible. She has been pretty bulletproof considering what she's been through over the many years ... and god knows how many hours! I hope you're enjoying your bike as well. Shit, you just reminded me. My brothers 05 is now overheating and leaking coolant from the water pump weep hole. I replaced that sooo long ago on old faithful that I dont remember what I need to get for his. Cant remember if it was two seals AND a new impellar shaft or what. I think he is only at 90 hours or so on the meter now.

I have had them for 3x rides now. They do seem to cool just as well if not better than the stockers. I dont have any overheating issues now. I think they must cool better because it seriously takes a while before my engine seems to get to full temp. Never had the extra delayed warmup before. I dont have a temp guage for actual proof though. They are definitely larger in size(depth) They also don't fit my WC radiator braces. So for a woods bike.. you might want to see if the other stronger guards work. Like DeVol's or Unabikers. Their braces are actual braces. Cant say the same for the works connections! WC = Flimsy!!! One more note. They are way thicker and stronger feeling than stockers too. I'll post up when I wad up and let you know how they hold up. Now, I just need to find a good deal on a stock clutch.....

figured I would bump this from the dead. My issue was only the piston/cylinder meltdown and new radiators. And the small stuff like new o-rings on water outlet at head. Oh and the plastic Y-piece that connects radiator halves had a hole in it too. Put her all back together and she runs like a champ again. Well as much of a champ it can be with so many hours! Think my clutch is about to go again though. LOL Oh and for anyone that needs feedback ... the CHINESE RADIATORS from E-BAY kick some serious butt!! They dont have the nicest craftsmanship.. but then again i do metal fab as a hobby... so I am critical of all metal work and welding. They work awesome though. No overheating issues at all. If anything.. takes my bike a while to fully warm up. Might work a little too good! Here's me on old faithful. Good to be back on my bike. Hope to get this season out of her with no issues. We took the time to film and measure this step up that is close to our camp. 2nd gear. Distance was taped out right at 58ish feet to landing zone. Super fun jump. Pretty cool video of step up: still photo of 58 foot step up:

everything!! I tried to tell you guys from the beginning that she's seen better days! Seriously, everything is fatigued. She's almost 10 years old and has been ridden pretty hard the whole time. This is why I was trying to keep it minimal in terms of repairs. I knew once I dug into it.. it would just be one thing after another. So far it looks like it will be $240 to repair. I still should get radiators though. So could get up to $500 real quick. damnit, shoulda just bought a new bike already. Guess i'll fix it up and have it for a loaner/beater for friends that dont have a bike.

eh, I dunno.. shit was obviously going everywhere. Forgot to add some tech info. Drained oil from crankcase: 575cc's (started with 625) I have a slight leak out contershaft though. It's my free personal chain luber. lol Drained oil from engine: 350cc's YIKES. (started with right around 650cc) So, I don't think this is a problem with seals between the two oil compartments.

Mas updates.... Shawn_mc is pretty much right... It was blowing oil right past the rings.... Because the top ring was broken and the groove for it was actually melted down!! Nice groove in the top of the cylinder jug too. LOL I will post pics soon. I am buying a new jug for it. Hope the head isn't warped... especially since this one has Ron Hamp's port job on it. I still have a spare stock head though. Just would need a valve job. Damnit, trying not to spend any money on the pile!! rode my brothers 05 450 on Sunday though... quick picture session of this hip jump to keep you guys entertained until I post the carnage. sweet leg kick! HAHA check out my brothers rim too! HAHA Here's the other angle: It was 68 feet+ on the tape to where I was landing.... Kinda surprised me since I'm only in second gear and its not very high. Butt whip!! LOL

Yea normally I wash the bike before I tear it down. I was impatient this time as I was eager to find out what happened to the motor on the trip. I do clean all around the cylinder head first before I take it off though. Definitely not the best practice but I won't let any dirt get in there. OK< so here's the update. I bought a stock piston kit from a dealer advertising on e-bay. $97! KILLER DEAL! so here's the link for anyone else. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360231179102&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT It's definitely not as nice as the JE 12.5:1 piston I'm replacing.. but for the price I couldn't pass it up. Gonna clean her all up this weekend and prep for rebuild. I will get a base gasket, assemble dry with new top end, replace head gasket... and pray to mcmudderfocking god that my cylinder isnt warped or that the crank seal isnt bad! Hope to have it together before the 20th. Anyone know where I could score some deals on the radiators!??
