  1. O.K. this isn't my first post about this but it still isn't right and I don't know what to do. I am thru with the damn bike shop. I have the skills to do pretty much anything to the pig, but what I lack is enough knowledge to diagnose the problem. This is where you guys come in, PLEASE HELP. 2000 xr560r, uncorked. It started a few weeks ago, took a ride and on the way down the mountain, it seemed things weren't right. It seemed louder than it had earlier in the ride, I stopped and the bike was making a sort of hiccup as it idled. took it to the shop and the guy said it was the valves, he adjusted them. It was fine until about half way thru my next ride and basically the same thing happened, but this time there was no hiccup, it was just louder and now a ticking noise has developed. The guy at the shop said it could be carbon buildup on the valves, he also said it could be the decompression lever tripping. I tried to mess with the lever and it does not stop the ticking. But it does change the tone or intensity of the ticking somtimes. Is this it???. I took off the exhaust valve covers and cycled the engine thru with the kick start, I heard what seemed to be a spring loaded metalic ping after about every third push on the kick lever. I think this might be the ticking when the engine is running. But what and where is it?? Also it is burning oil from bad rings, will this make it tick? One more symptom that I noticed today is that there is a loss of low end power. The engine just never seems to get comfortable in any gear. Until the revs get up a little then it seems to be fine. But low speed stuff bogs the engine down. Sorry for the long post, if anyone can help please speak up!!!

Directly after riding the bike home from the shop (valve job) I changed the oil/filter and put almost 2 quarts of oil in per some article I got off the internet. I did not consulte the owners manual (stupidly). How much oil is too much. WHen I checked the level it seemed pretty good. During my ride I checked it and it them seemed low only about 1/2 inch showing on the dipstick. It smokes some, but I was informed that this is probally the valve seals. I do not notice any leaks, no oil on the bnike or the gound. Could it have burned up that much oil??? Could it be bad gas? Not me but the bike. THe first 2 times I went to ride I stupidly put 87 octane in. Again, not looking at the owners manual (Yes I am an idioit). The bike seemed to run pretty good. The last 2 times I went riding I put either 91 or 93 in. But these are the two times it messed up. Could it be bad gas making it knock like that? The guy at the shop said that is likely what it is ,I don't know. He siad maybe carbon build up I hope the bike isn't f'ed up. I just bought it and love it. I would be heart broken if this baby is messed up. Sorry for the overload but I am just worried about the pig. Thanks for he help!!
  3. So I just had the pig in the shop to get the valves adjusted. They were out pretty bad. Thought all was well, went for a ride today and something is still not right. The first odd thing is the bike seems to be louder, more engine noise than it used to. And it seems like there is a ticking or knocking that I do not remember before. ALso, it is shifting funny. Sometimes will not go all the way into 5th or won't shift all the way into first. It still runs pretty good other than the noise. Maybe a little loss of power but nothing huge. If you can help please do. Thanks in advance.
  4. I am so very sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathies go out to you and your loved ones.
  5. So I went for a ride today, during the whole ride it was great but on the way home I noticed that my 00' BRP was a bit noisier than it usually is so I stopped to see if everything was o.k. As soon as I stopped and idled there was a wierd clicking/hiccupy noise coming from the top of the motor. I am not very knowledgable about bikes but it seemd to me it might be misadjusted valves. I also noticed a decrease in top end power. I was in fifth gear and it seemed to have higher RPM than it should of had. Is this enought info for anyone to offer any help? I am going to bring it to the shop tommorrow I am sure they will be able to help. Say a prayer for her that it is nothing serious. THanks in advance. Chris

  7. I live in Tennessee and it is REALLY easy to get a tag. I bought the BRP from a guy in Mississippi and the title had the model as ATV. Well I told them that must have been a typo and cause it was an XR650r. They looked that up on the internet and saw that it was a morotcycle intended for off-road use. I told them I installed all the neccessary street legal equiptment. The only thing they hassled me about is a small odometer descrepiancy. But other than that absolutely no problems getting the tag. If I can be of assistance let me know
  8. Thanks for all the help guys. So the general concensus is that it is the valve seals. I gather that this is not super serious and it can wait for a little while to be remedied. I just got her street legal yesterday and can't wait to take some DS rides. Thanks for the help. Chris G
  9. I just bought a 2000 xr650r that I have been working on dual sporting. It is just about done!!!! Can't wait to get it out of the garage. I have noticed it smokes some after I start it up until it gets warm. Does anyone have any idea what might be the issue. I hope it is nothing serious. It has been uncorked (not by me). PLEASE HELP.
  10. I am about to purchase a 00' XR650r that I am looking to dual sport. Am trying to find some riders in the Chattanooga area to ride with. Let me know if there is anyone out there. Chris G
