  1. My sincere suggestion to you at this time is to focus on running your operation as effectively as possible, serving your customer (racers not SCORE) with the highest quality product imaginable so that IRC and Phil do not go the way of Rally Logger and Craig. Scotty, the above seems to be the only thing I can respond to, as most or all of your other points are out of my hands or out of my direct control. IRC does bend over backwards to give the best service to it's customers, the competitors. I for one will always strive to do my best, that's something that my father taught me. I can definately be a smartass at times, but the flip side to that is that I truly enjoy people and interacting with them. For the record, I do know who Mark Post is and am fully aware of the circumstances, seen the videos, seen the results. I do have a strong opinion about it, which more than likely mirrors your opinion about it. But I'm not an organizer or even a competitor. I can only do what I do, and do it as well as I can. Phil from IRC
  2. And if I may be so bold, "cheaper solution" is a criteria, not a solution. What is a cheaper solution?
  3. Please don't get me wrong here. Of course I know there are a ton of solutions to any given problem, from cheap to expensive. Satellite tracking is only one of I'm sure many different solutions. It just happens to be the way IRC deals with such things. And since we were asked to supply a solution, this is where we ended up. It was our choice to choose the system we have to build a business around. It is the choice of the organizer to choose from the available solutions to deal with their issues.
  4. First, I would like to make it clear that I am not an off road racing competitor. My only background in racing was with a very bad '69 Plymouth RoadRunner with a Hemi in it. It was a vehicle built for straight line travel only. Having said that, following are my random observations. 1. There must be one hell of a lot of blatant cheaters in the off road racing community. All I've heard here gives me the impression that there are very few actual competitors out there, although I know this isn't true by any means. 2. Everybody seems to want to "compete" in baja because it's 3rd world, wild, untamed, unspoiled, however you want to refer to it as. And I agree, as a world traveller from the time I was 12 years old, my favorite places are still those places where the perceived "lurking danger" is present. Call me crazy, that's just me. Considering some of the places I've been, baja is a walk in the park, and a very pleasant one at that. 3. Everybody loves the gist of point 2, but in the same breath screams for a justice that seems to contradict the place you choose to race. 4. It's you the competitors who are cheating, not the organizer or anybody else involved. It's YOU, pure and simple. Or I should say, a percentage of you. What are YOU guys doing about it? 5. You want the wild west, you want the 3rd world charm, you want the feeling of being on the edge. Yet, you want daddy to take care of your problems for you when you think you've been slighted. 6. Well, daddy's tried, and you screamed. Daddys trying again, and you scream again. 7. In reference to #6, not only do you want daddy to take care of your problem for you, you want him to pay for it too. 8. If there ever is an ideal perfect solution to the issue of cheaters, who do you really think is going to end up paying for it? The organisers? Please. Once again, they aren't the ones cheating. 9. A number of you harp about how easy it is to defeat the measures that the organizers try to put in place to answer your screams for justice, yet in the same posting list the number of ways there are to defeat that which you screamed for. Explain that to me please. Again, these are observations from someone who's travelled in baja and many other places but has never competed there. These observations are not an accusation or meant as damming of what I happen to think of as generally a great group of people. These observations are aimed at getting an answer to a question of mine. Is there anybody out there, a competitor, with MANY yars of experience, who can actually give a once and for all, definitive answer, as to WHAT it is you guys really want? Phil from IRC
