    Fork Problem

I have a 2006 450exc and the rebound clicker on the top of the fork will only turn 13clicks. I have just bought the bike but I know the seals were replaced recently by previous owner. I tried pulling the cap off the fork to have look and after I unscrewed it would not come off and I did not want to force it. Is there a step by step precedure for disassembly of the fork and has anyone else experienced this.

    450exc gearing

I am running 14/52 now and its ok but got into some real nasty stuff on the weekend and in first I was have to work the clutch a lot. But I agree once you get out of the snotty stuff the gears are perfect.

    450exc gearing

I have 2006 450exc and I am considering dropping the gearing down to 13/52 for tight woods riding. Is this too low and will I damage the swing arm going this low. I am not worried about the top end speed too much.

    ktm shock and fork problems

To pull the cap off I assume I have to remove the handle bar, and loose the tripple clamp and just screw it off. Is this cap under spring pressure when I remove and is there any hassle in getting it back on?

    ktm shock and fork problems

Spring pretension is 6mm which gives 42mm static and 118mm race sag. My weight with gear is about 90Kg. According to the manual I should go to 84 spring. Bike feels nice though the way it is which is only for trail riding. Front forks are 42mm static and 73mm race sag. Would I gain alot by changing the spring rate. Still have not fixed the clicker on the front fork and it is the rebound clicker not the compression clicker that's stuffed.

    ktm shock and fork problems

35/100 is basically what's in the owners manual and I was about to change the spring but the KTM guys are saying 40/115 plus or minus a bit. I am a bit confused but I thought I would try it for while and see how it performs. On the fork problem I was told today that sometimes water can get in oil and cause corrosion. Was told to work the clicker carefully to try and free up.

    ktm shock and fork problems

This could be the problem. One of fork seals was replaced just prior to purchasing. Is this easy to check? I have not pulled a fork apart before.

    ktm shock and fork problems

Staic sag is 43mm and race sag is 117mm. From reading other threads it seems this is pretty close to being right if you ignore what the owner manual says. Not sure what to do with the fork but I think I should get someone to look at it. For the rear shock I will take that off tonight and try what you suggested. Thanks again.

    ktm shock and fork problems

Yes, it is compression clicker on the fork and rebound clicker on the shock. Will pull the shock and try your advice. Any ideas on the fork? Also the static sag is 43mm and should be 35. Why would this be so far out and what does it affect. Thanks for your help
  12. I have just bought 2006 ktm 450exc and the compression clicker on one fork will only come out 14 clicks which is about half the adjustment it should have. Also the rebound adjuster on the shock will only adjust 19 clicks which again is about half of what it should have. Any ideas on what the problem is here.

    Grizzly 600 knocking noise

Would you piston slap occurring at idle? My DRZ gets some piston slap but only when you labour the engine.

    Grizzly 600 knocking noise

I have done bit more diagnostic work on the engine noise and it seems to be coming from the pull start mechanism.

    Yamaha Grizzly 600 knocking noise

I have just bought 1999 grizzly 600 with about 6000 miles on it. The bike performs really well and does everything it should. The only issue I have is a couple of strange noises coming from it. After my first ride I felt that the idle was too high so I dropped it right down and when I did this there was a bit of a knocking noise from the engine. It sounds like a a big end bearing but I hope not. I am not familiar with this engine and was wondering what else it could be. The revs only have to increase slightly and it disappears. The other noise is a sort of whining noise which occurs at higher speeds but maybe it normal with this type of transmission. I know it is a belt drive so maybe the belt is worn. It does not seem to be slipping though at low speed. Any help would be appreciated.
