    Ever Notice

Yea, I'd say you summed that up nicely! The only thing I'd add is that in either discipline, it takes some time to get comfortable with the surroundings. If you're a MX'er it takes a little time to discover that the trees don't move. If you're a trail rider, it takes some time to realize that the guy flying "over your head" doesn't want to land on you any more than you want to be landed on.

    COHVCO thougths, ideas and concerns

Hey Rod, first off a big THANK YOU for volunteering your time! IMHO, the best approach is communication communication communication. Today's best (free) communication medium is Facebook. Typing in a short blurb, update, letter writing request, etc takes only a few minutes. Until we figure a way to educate our less enlightened brethren (the parking lot donut crowd) we're doomed to being cast as wreckless loud and obnoxious, no matter how quiet our bikes, how good a neighbor we are or how much trail maintenance we do. That's just my $0.02 Educate our masses and make the idiots pariahs and IMO we'll be much farther ahead.

    Colorado 500-2010

Glad to hear it wasn't a "bad day" in the classic sense of the word! AK was great! We had a blast but I think I'll stick to shorter trips in the near future. 6300+ miles, 13.5 days, 10/14 nights camping, snow, heat, rain, plague and pestilence. We saw almost all of it. Took me a week to figure out how tired I was when I got back! Glad the 500 was good, hope everyone had a great time!

    Colorado Springs Gazette

So, it's OK to slant the article that the area is being destroyed, abused, fires left, etc then say that it's the 5% that causing the problem IN THE LAST SENTENCE OF THE ARTICLE? How about a positive slant instead of one meant to inflame the readers and pressure the powers that be to close the entire area, thereby making the problem WORSE? I guess I just need more coffee and patience. I agree we're our own worst enemy at times but sh*t like this doesn't help. I guess we should just give up, lay down and die because 5% of our participants are 'holes. OK.
  6. Did anyone see the "feature piece" by Mr Rappold of the Colorado Springs Gazette? http://www.gazette.com/articles/slew-99706-bikes-camping.html Those of you who enjoy riding this area should consider speaking up. My letter, even though I very rarely ride here, will be in the post today.

    Denver area painters

I've had Brenda and Rod at BLine graphics paint one of my lidz. I was extremely happy with the process, finished product and service! They get my vote. She has some examples here: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewAlbums&friendID=466103217

What has happened to our tracks?

Have to agree with Rex about roughness and GH. I was privy to that conversation and both the owners were very quick to respond to the request of letting it get rougher with laughter and the aforementioned comment. Jackk, I'll agree that our expectations go up as we get faster and more capable, however, I also find truth in Rex's statement. If you're truly interested in getting faster and learning new stuff, learn how to practice *something* when you're riding, not matter how well the track is or is not prepped. Riding the same line as everyone else on a freshly groomed track is fun but offers little in growth opportunity IMHO. Embrace the challenge!

What has happened to our tracks?

I have to agree with Ice, the track prep for the SMX series was epic. As is the Weds night series run on the same spot. I spoke to Byron last year about prep after a few people on this board were complaining about track prep. Byron's take was that fewer riders were/are showing up due to increased prices for just about everything and the crappy economy. He said he'd happily prep if lots of bikes show up but it simply wasn't happening so he decided to prep on race days and when the crowds usually show up, Saturday and Sunday. I honestly don't know what the other tracks look like as I rarely venture out (I've been called an Aztec Specialist) but I KNOW Byron is doing the best he can and I'm rarely disappointed in his efforts.
