    Magnetic oil drain bolts.

I got an '05 WR450, and was thinking about a magnetic oil drain bolt. From the posts I read when searching, seems people get little or no metal stuck to the magnet when they change the oil. Is this because the oil passes through the filter before it goes past the magnet? Would it be better to get one for the sump or for the frame? Or both? Maybe an oil flow diagram might help, if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Why is 18 inch rear better for off-road?

I'm interested in the 90 size front tires. The 20" fronts wern't that popular, but I think they would be great for offroad. I don't like the idea of having to buy a front wheel (easier than changing rim and spokes) to change the front tire. Rear 18" wheels are easy to get hold of for real cheap if you have a YZ.

Why is 18 inch rear better for off-road?

The crank/flywheel is the driving force, what ever it has to drive takes power away...... Quite simple really.

    Chain Questions

yeah, get the 520, in what ever brand/style you want. I always get a 120 link chain and break to size. That way you always have spare links.

    Aftermarket clutch basket

Not to mention aftermarket baskets offer better oil flow. Are they worth the price? If you have increaced the power a fair bit, or worn out the original one. Most wear out the original one first.

    Best sounding exhaust

I would say the advantage is power placement. A weight saving on the WR is welcome, but not really noticed that much. The more bottom and mid range the bike has got, the easier it is to ride. This is the reason why Yamaha has tuned their '07 WR for more bottom and mid range, just like the CRF-X. This is one reason I don't like the quiet pipes, as they rob bottom end, making the bike harder to ride.

How often do you change the oil? What oil are you using?

Grey Wire Mod 05 WR 250FT

Yes, aussie spec '05+ bikes have it. Difference is suttle, but noticable. Just pull the wire out of the harness.

    Hydraulic Clutch?

They are great, until they fail. If you get one, make sure you take some spare fluid in a syringe to get you out of the poo poo.

    Sprockets for wr250

Yeah, personal preference. Also depends a huge ammount on how restricted the bike is too. I run 13/49 on the wr250f, it has a vortex ignition and gytr pipe. Stock gearing (13/52) for the wr250 is actually pretty good. It just lacks pace for high speed sections. Once you add a pipe to your bike, the gearing becomes too short.

A change in temperature is enough to change your settings. I would do what Lasik says, and clean it out first.

Why is 18 inch rear better for off-road?

It is a driven force, not the driving force. You will loose torque.

    Best sounding exhaust

That is for the propower, not available in USA...... Pity, because they are an awesome pipe, not restricted, very tolerable in the noise department, add awesome power. How do I know? I got one for a WR250F!

    Exhaust Header Torque Spec

You can keep your FMF, I'll stick to Procircuit. As for poor design, tell that to everyone that won an AMA championship. I don't have to remove it, just loosen it off. I choose to remove it to clean all the crap off it then I get to see the titanium change colours again!

    Best sounding exhaust

The MX systems you mention are ~102 - 103db. The Leo's come with different inserts, they can run just as open as the others you mention. They are a wonderful muffler if that is the one you are looking at. As mentioned before, everyone will have a cry at loud pipes. It is a shame you can't get a straight answer. 103db is a bit annoying when riding your bike, there is a fair bit of drone. But if you pick the Leo, you can just change the insert to be quiet. I think this is a great choice for a muffler. Alternatively, you can get a Procircuit 496 and run that baby open. The extra length of the can quietens it down abit with out being restricted. Most of the pipes nowdays have different inserts available to quiet them down, but you loose power. Personally, I like the GYT-R pipes, but no inserts available. Have a read of this for exhaust test on '03 YZ450: http://www.dirtrider.com/tech/141_0303_2003_yamaha_yz450f_exhaust_test/

    New 2005 WR450 owner

Ok, you need to pull it out of the harness man! The change is not dramatic, just makes the bike run a fair bit smoother. The WR timing is some what crappy for the emissions. Seriously pull it out of the harness and try it.

Why is 18 inch rear better for off-road?

MX tracks don't have logs, tree roots and big rocks. 18" rear provides extra cusioning. Less flats.
