Last weekend I decided to do a deep cleaning on my bike. The areas that needed the most help were the engine case behind the shift lever, the swingarm, and the rear hub. I use a quality brand of chain lube (Silkolene Synthetic) that isn't sticky, but even when applied with a light coat, a fine film still manages to find its way onto surrounding areas. I'm not too crazy about the use of harsh chemicals on my bike, but Mothers Aluminum Wheel Cleaner says that it's safe for both uncoated and anodized aluminum, so I decided to cautiously give it a try.

I started with the rear hub where the spokes pass through it on the sprocket side. This is tough area to get into so I used a household paintbrush to agitate the product. I worked quickly with very little scrubbing effort and a thorough rinse revealed a squeaky clean hub that looks like the day the bike rolled off the showroom floor! This stuff works! I was able to clean the other key areas of my bike in less than 10 minutes also with good results. Best of all, no streaking, pitting or damage to the aluminum parts.

I don't plan to use this product regularly, but for periodic deep cleanings I think it will be perfectly safe on my bike's aluminum. I'm definitely happy with how clean and bright my aluminum comes out looking after cleaning with this product.
