In an effort to beat the coming Florida summer heat, I installed CV4 silicone radiator hoses and a CV4 2.0 bar radiator cap on my 2019 Yamaha YZ450F. Most of my time is spent riding slow to moderate speed wooded trails with lots of whoops and deep sand. These conditions can really heat up the big 4-stroke that was designed for MX and doesn’t use a radiator fan.

Love shop time with a buddy installing cool parts!

Installation is the same as OE with basic hand tools. Instructions aren’t included, but it really is self-explanatory.  All the radiator hoses lined up accurately and were the correct length. Be sure to orient the included hose clamps in a way that minimizes snagging on trail brush.

Installation of CV4 Radiator Hose Kits is a breeze & a good time to check coolant condition.

Compared to the OE radiator hoses, CV4 hoses are significantly thicker and use noticeably more reinforcement fibers.

Stock Yamaha radiator hose vs. CV4 silicone.

Even the CV4 hose clamps are better than stock. Made in Germany, unlike the OE clamps, the edges are slightly curved away from the hose to prevent digging in. Also, the clamp threads protrude outward for the same purpose. Small, but well thought out details!

CV4 Silicone Hose Kits fit perfectly and use HQ clamps.

What advantages does silicone have over rubber radiator hoses?

  • Silicone is more heat resistant, maintaining material integrity & thickness when hot.
  • Silicone is more durable to abrason.
  • Silicone stays pliable over time and doesn’t melt/stick to OE metal fittings, making removal & reassemble over time easier.
  • For applications with an OE Y junction that use a plastic coupler, one-piece silicone Y-hose specific kits eliminate failure prone couplers, decrease install/assembly time and have more efficient coolant flow through the Y junction.

I chose red colored radiator hoses because I thought that they would look cool, but they actually do run cooler. We all know that black reflects the least amount of sunlight, absorbing more heat. Compare how hot a black vinyl seat gets sitting in the sun vs. a colored seat and you know what I am talking about! I won’t tell you that I can measure its effect on coolant temps, but if it makes just a one degree difference, bonus!

CV4 high pressure radiator cap increases coolant boiling point for extra margin in extreme conditions.

Bottom-line, CV4 silicone radiator hoses & high pressure radiator cap fit like OE, the hoses are more durable & have a longer service life, the higher pressure radiator cap gives me a bit more margin before boiling and the red color pop makes me smile. None of these parts will solve an overheating issue because of an improperly jetted bike or mud clogged radiators in slow, clutch abusing race conditions. They’re more about giving you a bit of extra margin in more extreme conditions while giving your bike a “Factory” look.

Increasing the system pressure by use of 2.0bar cap is a common procedure to mask other problems that your system may have. It does not change anything except that you don't realize anymore when the system is overheating. If your cooling system is in good condition a high pressure rad cap is the last thing you need.

Silicone hoses are a good thing though and I personally use them on all my bikes...

Looks great and that's about all these hoses are good for: aesthetics. Quality appears to be good.
