this is the latest boot that i have bought for riding after ruining so many in a very short time. I guess i have a wierd riding technique where i stand on my toes and use a lot of ankle motion. Any boot ive had without hinges always cracked at the ankle and propagated so much that there was very little support left. I then invested in boots with hinges (acerbis X move 2.0) and they were much better in terms of comfort and ROM but i would pull the hinges out of the sockets in just a couple of rides, this damaged the sockets making the problem so bad that it would happen every ride, which was a shame because they where very comfortable. Finally after researching i found the gaerne SG10 to be a good compromise between quality and price and noticed a bunch of riding buddies using SG10 and 12's for a while now. I bought the SG10 and really liked their design. The range of motion of the boot is very natural with dorsi/plantar flexion resistance at the right points with adequate inversion/eversion motion. the exterior of the boot is nicely designed and never caught the bodywork of the bike. The buckles are positive feeling and overall the materials are of good quality. On the other hand, they never really broke in for me and still squeeze a little too much just above the ankle. The insole of my left boot also moves back everytime i ride, exposing my toes to the bear sole which is a bit annoying because i have to take my boot off to reseat them. My foot size is euro 41 and the sole fits well enough but the ankle to calf juncture doesnt fit me as well as some other boots ive had.

PROS:

- biomechanically well designed,

- good materials with form that is nonintrusive to the bike.

CONS:

- didnt fit as well as some other boots ive had.

Final thoughts:

Ive been using them for a while now and they have already outlasted all my previous boots. Its a durable product which will protect you feet with just the right ROM.

These boots are all they say they are except one minor issue... The steel toe guard removed itself after one race. Barely tagged a stump with them and by the time I was back at the trailer, the whole guard was gone. Other than that, breaking them in is not even an issue, maybe two rides at most. Soles last forever and the adjustments are easy to tweak. But be smart, AND DO NOT GET WHITE ONES, or you'll forever be scrubbing with a tire brush to keep them clean.

I read several reviews and opinions on these boots prior to ordering them.  My review is simple.  Believe the hype.  They are comfortable out of the box, provide excellent protection, and you can actually walk in them when new.  Are there cheaper boots out there, absolutely.  But the adage "you get what you pay for" applies here.  I have had a set of SG-10s for three years.  They have held up very well.  I am happy with them.  If, for some reason I did need to replace them, I would buy a similar pair or a pair of the new(er) SG-12s.

Probably the most comfortable boot that I've worn and SUPER durable. Outside of replacing a metal toe cap & screws worn out from beating the hell out of them, they wear like iron. I found little to no break-in required, their sizing is pretty much true and the toe box isn't overly chunky, so shifting action & feel is just right.

Not the lightest boot out there, but the combination of comfort, durability and high levels of protection, I'll likely stick with Gaerne for the foreseeable future. GREAT boot. You just can't go wrong here.

I highly recommend these boots! I don't have a ton of time on them, but already love them. Very comfortable and very important to me, the buckles work great! No problems latching them, they didn't come unlatched while I was riding in sagebrush, they are designed right. So many boot companies now are putting out straight up stupid buckle designs, but these are solid. Very easy operation, secure latching, and durable. Again, summary: comfortable, great support, great (BEST) buckles. I want to buy another pair immediately in case they come out with a new design that isn't as good.
