Stock seat is a brick.  Otherwise its great fun to ride.  Bought it to hang on the back of our motorhome.  Will use it for all kinds of riding when traveling, though I'm not into motocross or hard trail stuff at my age.  And for long journeys, we'll be in the motorhome or on our Triglide these days.  Goldwing traveling is behind us.  Solo, I might take multi-day trips on the old Honda Shadow ACE 1100 Tourer.

We need to say more than "its great" here.  A blank canvas describes it well.  If you are an inexperienced rider then you may want to leave the bike stock.  If you are more experienced and want more power then investigate the 3x3 mod and  jet kit or the upgrade to the FCR pumper carb or even fuel injection if you are keen.  The amount and availability of after market parts is amazing. Basically there are after market parts for most things that you required to do to the bike and that's not surprising after all the DRZ 400 s/sm and e have been around for about 20 years now.  The reliability is legendary in the small adventure bike and motard market, this is probably due to the fact that the DRZ 400 is well engineered and under stressed.  I recommend these bikes for the ease of use, the maintenance and the total cost of ownership.  I have had three DRZ's over the last 20 years and have not been disappointed.  The first 2 DRZ's I owned were the "e" model with the FCR and "e" cams the last (and current) is an SM, so far I have fitted fuel injection, Stage 2 hot cams and a large tank.  This coupled with some off-road wheels (after market) make the most versatile bike that I have owned (for both road and soft /  off road use)  The cost of these machines is also an attraction, with the cost being so modest the total coast of making them what you want becomes possible, not having to spend so much on the basic machine means you have more left in the kitty for all the after market goodies that you might want to make the bike the way that you want it.  The support from the forum here on Thumper Talk is also second to none, most of the people who offer advise know what they are talking about as they have had / modified and generally used DRZ's in some from or another.

Love the DRZ, bulletproof and reliable. Wish it had another gear, bigger tank and 15 more HP though.
