  5. this will be the first ktm I've owned I'm going back and forth between the 200and the 250. I've heard great things about both bikes. I'm 5'9 155lbs have ridden my whole life. I like the idea on the 200 because if I'm not mistaken it's on a 125 frame. since I'm a smaller guy I think I could ride this harder and it would just suite by style better. however I've heard the 250 has a little more low end grunt and can lug a little better. I know I will be happy with either bike. I am mainly looking for a do it all bike but mostly single track hare scramble type ridding with some occasional mx. any thoughts or opinions??
  6. I have noticed quite a few folks in the forum have recently purchased new 13 model year 250 & 300's. So I thought I would start this thread where we could discuss our shiny new rides. Set up, experience, tricks, upgrades, etc. Just a go to spot to maybe help one another out?

I have ridden the 2020 version and will say they have much more power, hook-up better with linkage, and have so little vibration it can be almost disconcerting, but they run hot, flame out on downhills and don't have a kickstarter. For me, at least while I'm still relatively young, I don't mind the vibration of my bike, and really love the simplicity and proven reliability. KTM 250 FTW.

I am a 40 year old Veteran rider and racer who currently enjoys a full stable of motorcycles that range from two XR100's to a KTM 950 Adventure and several bikes in between. One of the things I enjoy about motorcycles is they are each unique and like tools in your toolbox they each have a certain purpose. I'll do my best to describe what this bike is best at and what it's weak points are. Strengths: I would say this bikes biggest strength is that it is very good at a wide range of riding after some proper setup. I am mainly an off road rider but I also occasionally ride motocross tracks. Off Road: For my main type of riding off road this bike is extremely good. It comes from the factory with a 2.6 gallon fuel tank which is large enough for extended rides, the electric start really makes riding that much more fun though it does require some maintenance. Overall I would say for riding off road this bike only needs a set of handguards, and a skid plate for even the most serious rider. Motocross: One thing that has impressed me the most about this bike is how well it performs on the track. With the previous bikes I've owned which is a range of 125, 200, and 250 two strokes there was always a big compromise one way or another. Those bikes always seemed to be very oriented in one direction, this one feels at home either place. Sure my buddies 450 4 strokes are easier to ride in MX, I never expected a 250 2 stroke to be better than those but this does a darn good job. Short comings: Starter: Now no bike is perfect and that includes this one. Most of us know that KTM's adaptation of electric start was a welcome addition but it was not fully integrated it was more of an addition and has some short comings. The electric start on this bike worked well for a couple years and then it didn't despite a good battery. Instead of messing with trying to just do a service to the existing parts I decided to "cry once" and fix it right. Fixing it right meant ordering a 2016 250xc crown wheel, bendix, and some replacement bushings. The first two cost a couple hundred bucks or so the bushings were a few dollars. It took me about an hour and a half to service the starter including cleaning everything up really well and greasing. There are many video's on youtube how to do this and I suggest watching them prior. Suspension: I have read quite a few folks complain about the front forks on bikes that came with the 4cs forks. I did not have problems with mine however I have always found it worth while to spend a few bucks ensuring I have the right springs for my weight and ability as well as valving to match. This bike was no exception and the suspension for me went from working good to great at my +40 Expert level with 180lb rider. If you are looking for a well rounded bike that can slice and dice between the trees, run flat out in the desert, as well as spend some time riding and even racing motocross most any of the 250XC line are a great choice. My first dirt bike. Still too early to be writing a review.
  17. Hello everyone, I just sold my 2 up atv to get back into bikes . Im just a novice trail rider I had a wr250f and a ktm200 way back. I plan on buying 2 new bikes a ttr125 for my daughter but I'm having a hard time deciding on for me. Im 5'8 155lbs and was actually more interested in the 2stokes because of the intense maintenance schedule and cost of the 250fs. I want something fun but not rip my arms off fast because most of the riding here in pa. is 1st to 3rd gear and would love to have a reasonable seat height. Not interested in any of the play type bikes. Any suggestions and or experiences would be great. Thanks Frank
  18. So here's the story: I bought this bike 2 years ago as a replacement for my 250 SX-F. I have been trail riding, hare scramble racing, and now training endurocross! At the end of my last race (Rev Limiter at Silverstar Bike Park), I began to think about a new bike, more specifically a 2016 350 XC-F. However, school has restricted my funds so I have decided to give the old girl (2008) a makeover throughout the winter months. The bike has already come a long way since I first purchased it, so I will try to cover all of the things I have already done to it

    KTM 250 XC 2018

    1 review

KTM's 2018 250 XC was built with the serious off-road enthusiast in mind. Built in Austria but ridden the world over, the 250 XC was designed to be taken straight off the showroom floor and ridden away from the truck and into the elements - a 2.6-gallon tank provides fuel for the journey. Of course, a wide variety of mods for the 250 XC are available through a number of aftermarket companies in order to help you fine-tune this KTM to your exact liking, although some of these changes may render it a competition-only machine. See what we think of the 250 XC and similar machines. In the last two decades, KTM's off-road lineup has made the Austrians the brand to beat-from the desert to the trees to the rocks, and everywhere in between. KTM's success is unprecedented, and bikes like the 2018 250 XC have helped catapult the brand to the top of the podium on more occasions that we can count. Machines like these have earned the overall at notorious desert races like the Dakar Rally and the Baja 1000; they've logged countless victories in the GNCC, National Enduro, and Hare & Hound circuits; they've blown us away at hard enduros like the Erzberg Rodeo and Red Bull Romaniacs, and they are all available and, as the company's tagline promises, "ready to race" right off the showroom floor. See below to read more about the 2018 250 XC - but don't neglect the numerous other models that KTM has to offer.
