  1. Okay so to start off i know for a fact that it is a carby issue. Basically i have a 1995 Kawasaki Kx100 2 stroke, and its never ever had a single issue for the time that i've owned it which is over a year. Recently with the weather becoming colder approaching winter in Australia, the bikes been really really un-happy. First i noticed that is wouldnt start like it used to so i was like no issues, probably just the colder weather, then while riding it i realized it would bog out at full throttle, like a blubwubwubwub kinda bog. After a bit of tinkering i cleaned out the carb and stuff and tried to tune it, i came accross a different issue, now basically when im riding and i get to like 4th gear, all the sudden the bike will rev out really high and ill loose all power. Then i upshift into 5th and it will be good for a second then rev out and i loose power again. Ive checked everywhere for air leaks and all that and i cant find any. is my air adjustment screw letting in too much air? and in the case of the bog at full throttle should i maybe go down a size on the main jet. Lastly theres another issue lol. when i start it it will idle for a second and then rev its guts out. Please help me, next step is to get a brand new carb i think.
  2. I have a Ktm 200exc that was jetted very nicely. The other day, after doing some of research, I decided I wanted to play around with the powervalve. Now the the bike will rev to a certain rpm and then flatline on power (wont rev out). 1/8 - 1/2 throttle feels very nice, but 3/4 - full throttle wont rev any higher and doesn't have any power. Can anyone help me fix my mistake?
  3. so I'm wondering about buying a 250cc 2 stroke I just turned 15 and weigh about 120lbs and am looking for a dirtbike coming off a Yamaha banshee. I will be mostly riding in the sand dunes but do go up and ride semi technical trails and desert riding. i've heard that a 125 will not have enough power for sand riding. would I be able to hold the bike up being around 5'9-5'10? what would y'all recommend I look for. (not at all considering a 4 stroke because of the costs of rebuilds)
  4. So I have been riding for some time and am wondering if I should keep my current bike (2001 kx125 it has boysen carbon fiber reeds, Procircuit full exhaust with r304 sillencer, revalved suspension, and the typical woods bike accessory bark busters, flywheel weight etc. But I'm not sure if I should send my motor out to eric gorr and get it punched to a 144 and ported for low and mid. Or get a 2004 rm250 with a full procircuit exhaust and revalved suspension as my new woods race bike. What would you guys suggest?
  5. 2003 KTM 250 sx has no gear oil fill plug because previous owner put after market carbon fiber cover on right side need help because I'm pretty sure its low but I can't check nor fill
  6. I picked up a rm250 a few months back for cheap missing carb needed stator missing coil and CDI box needed a kicker and stuff. Long story short I put case seals in it went though and inspected everything put it all together and got it running with an old Mikuni 125cc carb. I parked the bike for awhile (other projects) it’s summer time and I have time to work on the bike again. Put a bigger carb on it mounted the plastics rode it around etc. But I’m having issues figuring out what year it is. Here’s what’s got me stumped. It’s got a blue seat that goes onto the gas tank it says RM so I know it’s right for the bike the air box also has “RM” holes for air. I think it might be the RT version? Does anyone know if the air holes were stock? Or if that’s the stock seat? Also if anyone could tell me what kind of bars theses are that would be great this bike IS water cooled (just missing one of the rads)
  7. Hi all, I have a question that i haven't found some clear cut info about. Id just like to hear it from the community.... my mate and i are honda CRF boys , and sadly when we were recently on an out ride in the South African landscape, his engine came to a halt & seizure! what a day it was getting the bloody thing back to the car! Anyway we are young adults at uni who dont really have a lot of mony spare! we managed to find a way to rapidly replace the bike and to save money. We found a running 2004 yama yz250 2t and the guy traded us a seized 2005 crf250 for this- he specialized in chop shopping Honda and obviously saw value in this trade. it obviously came with its quirks.... this yz250 has: -1998 yz 250 motor -CDI from an 80cc yz When we first took the bike to the track it would not start. I noticed the following: -small holes in the expansion chamber (a few, none bigger than the tip on an Aux jack)- what is the impact of these small holes on the bike? ( i will use fire-gum to fix) -muffler does not tightly fit to the end of expansion chamber. FYI, fuel mix was 50:1- recommended by the oil we used- i have been told that old Yamaha are better with more oil? 25:1? So leading up to my question: when we eventually got the bike started (Bump start) it really ran lumpy, and bogged when the accelerator was pulled and eventually died. when i get the chance to look at the bike, what is the impact of holes in an expansion chamber?- could this be a reason for starting and power issue and bogging under acceleration?? Could this be because of a CDI from an 80cc? Could this be Fuel Mix? Spark Plug? apart from those questions, i am going to change the spark plug anyway- i can assume that maybe this could be due to a faulty plug?- maybe?? anyway, this is what i know. perhaps you guys would be able to add to my theories or tell me something more that i could investigate? thanks, Luke
  8. Hey all, I have been waiting for this day for quite a while. I am finally able to fix my bike, i've been in debt for some time but the day has come 🙂 Now i have a question, when I got my bike checked out at the shop, i was told i could rebuild my crank with any rod and bearings from 1986-2000. I am going to purchase an entire new hot rods crank instead. Am i able to order any crank from 1986-2000 for my bike? Mine is a 1987. I just want to make sure I am getting the correct part before I spend the money! Appreciate any replies or help. Thanks!!
  9. I found a “cr85” for sale that I thought was a cr80 doesn’t say anything about being a bored out 80, it’s a 2002. Did they finish 80’s early 2002 and start 85’s late 2002?
  10. So I am 16 about 155 pounds and want a new bike. my first bike was an 06 crf230f bought it last summer wanted more power within 2 weeks, didn't have money at the time so I just kept riding it. want to go 2 stroke so I can work on my own bike more and just because they r more fun, I have ridden a 250 2 stroke before but it was 93 yz250 and didn't feel all that crazy. Btw I have about 3000-3500 to spend what bike would I be best off with
  11. Hi all, I have a 2004 kx 250 2 stroke and it wont start. it only backfires. I was out riding it one day and came up to a stop so the bike was just idling and it started to try and die so i revved it up a few times then let it die and now it wont start back up. It only pops or backfires when you kick it. Its getting good spark and i just put a brand new plug and coil in it. I took the reeds apart and they look like they're brand new. It was running great before so i dont know what happened. Im thinking it could be a fuel problem even tho the plug is a little wet if you take it out after a bunch of kicking. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks
  12. Should I buy this bike my uncle just sold one and said in good condition they’re worth from $600 to $1200 and if I could get it for $300 it would be a good deal.
  13. Hi everyone, ive got an eighties PE 175 I’ve recently restored, which I’m running silkolene comp 2 premix which is ok, but I don’t think it’s really any good, although everyone raves how good it is for older dirtbikes. I was thinking of bel ray or Castro’s as I ran these on other bikes when I was younger ( more for the smell) I’m rebuilding the engine later in the year, and if it’s anything like the bodges I seen on the rest of the bike it will all need doing so I wanna run it something that wont kill everything. Thanks in advance
  14. Just curious. How come these bikes don’t use fuel filters? Being out in OHV parks, dirt roads and ect. I started to think about maybe installing one. Do you guys/girls know of any pros or cons to this?
  15. Took this bike out for a ride and while riding it i noticed it was very snappy on throttle and honestly uncontrollable on slick hills, etc. the hit was so much i was scared of flying into a tree. Like some of you might know i am used to the 4 strokes power roll on and how its super controllable response. So how can i make the throttle/bike more controllable so i can roll the power on smoothly. Basically make it feel like a 4 strokes throttle in a way? Also i will be adding a 9oz fww to the bike after a few more rides to determine if its needed for me or not. I read a few articles online before coming here, saying to retard the timing a few degrees. 1. I am very unfamiliar with most motor work as in gaps, head mods, etc. Also heard changing to a G2 throttle might help but has anyone used it on a woods bike? Just let me know what you guys have done to knock the mx hit off the yz for woods below!
  16. Got my 88 Cr250 was idling odd so I cleaned the carb and tried adjusting the idle but can't get it perfect and now ithe will wind up like it's about to snap into powerband but it acts like it almost hits a rev limiter and gets some power but definitly does not sound right, any help much appreciated.
  17. So I bought this bike about 2 months ago .. noticed a small leak where the exhaust manifold and expansion chamber meet the head mounting studs.. seems to progressively get worse as I ride as I notice more smoke. so I pulled off my pro circuit pipe and my exhaust manifold and I noticed the top stud is super stripped (the nut just keeps spinning on the stud). I am wondering how I can get this stud out because it seems to just be a stripped stud and it will not just turn out with vice grips.. and are there any recomended studs or sealers I can use ? Also how am I going to screw in the new stud without damaging the threads ? As you can see I don't have enough room to put 2 nuts on and screw it out as I tried that !
  18. I went out riding for the day and on the way back home i fouled my plug so i walked it the rest of the way and i took a wire brush and cleaned my plug and it started first kick. I noticed it was a bit rich on the pilot so i adjusted the fuel/air screw and got it running really good but then i saw coolant steaming out of the radiator cap so i quickly turned it off and later in the week i diagnosed it as a blown head gasket so i ordered it and replaced it and didn't start but it backfires out the exhaust when i kick it. I even tried bump starting it towed behind a quad and still nothing but i heard it fire every so often but didn't start so then i started tearing the bike down cleaned the carb really good got all the jets, replaced the pilot air screw since it was missing parts, got a new spark plug cap since it was rusty inside and the plug was loose in there, took apart and cleaned the power valves, cleaned the spooge out of the expansion chamber and silencer but still wouldn't start so now i don't know what to do i think it might be a timing problem since its backfiring but i really need some more opinions before i start f-ing with it.
  19. Hello everyone! I'm looking to get into dirt bikes and need some advice. I have a little experience on bikes from 5-6 years ago going out riding track with a friend on his yz85. They always said I was, "naturally talented" and needed to slow me down, but again tiny bike. I have been practicing on his old XR100 and having no trouble. We will be doing mainly desert and trail riding. I'm looking mainly at 2Ts because of their low cost, low maintenance, and just seem more fun. Now, I have a budget of around 1200-1500$, and there are many 250 2Ts in great condition in my price range. There's a YZ250 that's been done over to be enduro and my dad really thinks I should get it. I honestly think I could possibly ride it, but I'm also cautious because I'm aware of the huge power it has. One friend says I couldn't, the other says I definitely could. I'm 5'10, 15 yo, 130lbs. Thank you so much for your help. Link to bike: https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/mcy/6209138331.html
  20. Having problems with Yamaha yz 125. Have an aftermarket keihin pj carb and bike cuts out and high rpms and fouls plugs easy. Replaced the main hex jet by a lot of sizes down and still does the same thing. Bike will start (not easy) and bog out and die after 5 mins of riding and won't start up unless you kick it over at least 30 times. Any idea what the problem could be? Thanks guys.
  21. So I have a 1998 Yamaha Yz80, and I need a new top end. I found a 2002-2017 Yz85 piston kit, for a very reasonable price, and I was wondering if it would be able to fit my 98 Yz80? Would the piston, wrist pin, bearings, rings, Etc be able to fit? And will it work?
  22. KTM introduced its lastest EXC models at the iconic Erzberg in Austria. For more information visit http://www.ktm.com/enduro
  23. Hi! I am wondering if a 2 stroke would suit my type of riding best. I do trail riding, but not stuff that's really intense. I am 5'5 or 5'6. I currently have a KLX125 and I like it, but need more power! I am thinking a KDX200 would be the perfect two stroke, if I were tall enough. Same goes with the XR250r. Any suggestions would be great!
  24. Hi all, I'm looking at getting a bike that's good for greenlaning aswell as on the mx tracks. I want 2stroke and at the moment I'm looking at the KTM EXC 200. It needs to be road legal for the lanes but I want it light enough for the track. I'm not a super rider either hence not wanting a exc300 as probs to much power. I'm just curious as to what other bikes there are other than the exc? Price limit is £2,500. Cheers for any help you can provide!
