Is it too picky to ask a dealer when you’re buying a brand new bike to give you one that’s fresh out of the crate instead of the showroom model? Asking since my buddy will be buying a brand new Yamaha YZ450F and is worried about buying the showroom model since the last showroom model he bought had a bent radiator, bent rim, and a cracked subframe and air box. Luckily he discovered all this before riding it and after getting home. The dealer did end up fixing and replacing all those but it took awhile to get all the parts. (Bike was a 2013 KTM 450 XC-F)
  2. Hi experts, I just bought a FC450 2015 and took it to an Enduro competition few days later. The bike was great and running fine, no issues. Sometimes I stopped to wait my friends and turned the engine off to not overheat it, did this around 5 times without an issue, let's add that sometimes on the track I was on the wrong gear and killed the engine several times no big deal, pushed the button to start the bike and everything fine. Suddenly I stopped to drink some water and have some rest, then got back to the bike and hit the starter and it didn't start. The starter was working fine I was able to hear the engine cranking, I stopped and checked that the transmission was on neutral, and tried again and same thing. It tried for 15-20 seconds more and killed the battery. My friends helped me to push the bike and on 2nd gear I was able to turn the engine on. I ran for around 5-10kms to get back to my truck without an issue, I shut it down once I got it, and same thing... starter works, engine cranks but it wont start. I can hear the injection system preparing bike to start when I hit the button. Any idea? Thanks, Rob.
  3. I have a 2008 YZ450F with a stock header pipe and Pro Circuit T-4 Slip-On Exhaust. I'm 99% sure the slip on is shot because its loud as hell and when I take it off and shake it it rattles. I would repack it but the screws are all stripped ect. Anyways I've gone over the carb multiple times and I've got it running pretty well. The only issue I have with the bike is that it sputters and pops around 1/2 throttle when I hold it there. When I give it full throttle from any RPM it runs great or when I give it about 3/4 throttle it spins up like a top to redline. Initially the popping and sputtering was way worse I made the situation better by moving the pilot jet up in a few sizes from a 45 (stock) to a 62. The issue has gotten way better since then but I'm not super sure what to do from here. Should I keep moving my pilot jet up in size because that's a pretty large jump right? I tried changing my needle clip position but that didn't help much if anything it just made starting it worse and little to no impact on the ride. Any input on this would be helpful. I don't want to buy other slip on. Also as for the rest of the carb I'm very sure everything else in it is what it needs to be at. I've replaced all the gaskets and O-rings cleaned all the jets, valve holes ect. fixed the accelerator pump timing. I just thinks its strange that my pilot jet size is going so far from the stock 45, but all symptoms point to the bike running lean.

    Studder at 1/4 throttle

On my 2008 rmz 450, at 1/4 throttle there's this horrible studder. It started about a month ago. The bike has about 70 hours on it i bought it later last year and never had a problem with it. The only thing that i changed on it was the header pipe it had the stock one and i tweaked it where it was making a weird noise so i replaced it with a stock one. Things i have tried............................ New spark plug Cleaned the air filter Oil change Checked the valves one exhaust is on the loose side but not out of spec. I may try injector cleaner but idk if thats ok for these bikes. Any help is appreciated thanks in advance

    06-08 kx450f

Is there much difference with the 06 kx450f and the 08 kx450f? Also will a 06 cylinder head bolt on to a 08 bottom end and run?
  6. I'm new to this form and have a couple of my bikes I have questions on. First bike is my 2003 KTM 450 SX. It runs great and I can run it down the road throttle and on trails no problem without it dying on me. But when I jump it, it spits, sputters and dies. So when I land I need to pop the clutch to get it started again. Any idea what this could be? second question is on my 2003 KTM 125 sx. When I'm riding it it tends to surge around 3/4 to full throttle. But when I let off it will kinda go back to normal. I've cleaned the carb, new air cleaner, fresh rebuild, just can't figure it out. any help would be appreciated. I am a marine mechanic so I usually can figure this kind of stuff out but I've been stuck on these two bikes for awhile. Thanks

Anyone with a 2012 WR450F remember what size shims were in there originally? I want to know how much valve stretch I have without taking them out and measuring. Mine are all between 1.78mm-1.85mm thick. Thanks
  8. Hello all, I currently live in Phoenix Arizona and I am having problems with my 2006 KX450F backfire. Its rides perfectly fine and has all the power in the world, does not lack on the responsive side at all. But whenever I engine break I pop A LOT. "Poppopopopopopopopopop" and its whenever I am slowing down after either going fast or slow. I want to know how to stop that, I understand that some popping is okay, but its a lot, spits fire sometimes after going fast. I am not sure what current jets I have in the bike, because the previous owner did not know, but I am thinking of going to a 180 main jet, 42 pilot, 55 leak jet (from 70 stock), throttle clip position 4th from the top, and 2 turns out on the fuel screw. I have heard a lot of people changing the leak jet from 70 to 55 helps a lot overall. I am not sure on what to use for the elevation wise on the jets. I have tried to lean and richen the fuel screw before but nothing has happened. Any suggestions of what I should do? Just thinking of getting JD Jetting kit and going from there.
  9. Like the title asks, will a 2014 Husaberg FE350 Clutch & Brake Levers Fit on a 2014 KTM 350 XC-F? I found a great deal on some MSR front brake and clutch levers and was wondering if they would fit on the KTM, as Husaberg and KTM are virtually identical. Thanks
  10. The bike supposedly hasn't been ridden in 8 months, needs new tires, muffler needs to be repacked, but it apparently recently had a thorough rebuild. Despite this, it is a difficult bike to kick start. From the pics it looks as if it used to have been raced. It does run tho if you are able to kick thru the compression
  11. While looking over my transmission shifts forks, gears, etc., the only thing I saw was some strange pitting on the face of some of the gears (only on 1). What are your thoughts, some kind of material defect? Has around 350 hours on it, and everything else looks good. My buddy says to change it. It looks like it's 3rd Gear 5TJ-17131-20-00
  12. Hey Everyone, I have just recently gotten back into riding, and I have been trying to get my sag set on my bike. I have a 2005 RMZ 450. The manual calls for 104mm of rider sag. I am a bigger guy, 6ft and 320lbs. I know the spring that is currently on the bike is stiffer than stock, but I am not sure what the rating is on it. I currently have the bike set at 120mm rider sag, and 10mm static sag. I know this means that my spring is too soft, and I need to go to a heavier spring. However, I probably wont be able to switch out the spring for awhile. So for now, what is the best sag setting with my current spring? Should I try to get rider sag closer to 104mm, or should I worry more about raising my static sag? I do mostly trail riding and I am a novice. Will messing around with adjustments on the rear shock help?

    Chain rubbing tire

I have a 1999 kx 250. I got a brand new tire and my chain is rubbing on it. The chain is good and tight and when I slide it over it can barely touch the tire but it still does. My chain slide is looks very worn. Would a new chain slide keep it from hitting the tire? The ridge left on the slide is not even taller than half your finger
  14. I recently acquired the bike from a trade in which I had maybe $500 in to start with. The guy didn't really know what was wrong with it and I figured even if it were something major, I could still come out good in the end right? I know NOTHING about Ktms besides what research has told me. You're supposed to have a special tool to separate the timing chain in order to remove the head and that my specific bike was built to go from the showroom straight to the race track. Its ALOT DIFFERENT than a regular 450EXC. Different internals, more brute power, and a different gear box and ratio just to name a few. I took it to a friend who owns the local bike shop here and who has been racing for a long time. He got it to run but the top end of the engine was extremely loud. He said it PROBABLY needed a timing chain, tensioner, valves, and the usual new oil, filters, gaskets, etc. Come to learn after they ordered all of that and it shipped, they tore into it and discovered it needed new rod and crank bearings and why not replace the piston and rings too while its apart. So I did my research and looked up parts. Long story short, he said he would do it all for $850 bucks, which by my research is CHEAP. BUT, Idk. I haven't even rode it once yet. I've only ridden one 450 for a short whil. Not even 15mins. Not even long enough to get used to one. I rode it long enough to know that I wanted one for myself to ride for about a month and try to get used to the power and how to ride it the way its supposed to be ridden. My question is... Should I go ahead and put the money into it or try to sell it like it is and recoop some of my investment? And if I do fix it, how do I know that I will ever get to actually see what the bike is capable of? "Do I really need a 450," as the dirt bike channel guy on YouTube says? I just want to ride it once and see if I think I'll be able to keep it a while or if I'll have to sell it to get possibly a 250f or maybe 250 2 stroke. If noone replies or answers this, the chances are that I will end up spending the money to fix it, and either keep it a while or try to advertise it with ZERO hours on brand new engine rebuild along with the other new parts I plan on installing. If I re-sell, it will have all of the engine rebuilt top to bottom, new tires, brakes, seat, etc. He says in tip-top shape and with a title that I don't have, the bike is worth around $3k. How much truth is there to what he says? Honestly just want other opinions on what I should do. My luck, I'll spend the money and won't even get half back out of it.... Need advice. Thank you. Truly indecisive, TrippyTim

    2009 XC-F Plastics

Im looking at ordering aftermarket plastics for my 2009 XC-F. I am curious if there is any differences between the SX and the XC-F plastics besides the gas tank?? Would SX plastics fit my XC-F??
  16. yz450f fmf ti4 slip on exhaust fit a 2016 yz250f I can put it on and it bolts up to the bike but is it okay for the motor?
  17. I recently replaced water pump and seal after I noticed that my '02 CRF450R was spilling coolant on easy trail rides. After the water pump swap (which was successful), I noticed the same problem. It's interesting - the bike only spits coolant (I mean a LOT of coolant) after passing anything above 1/2 throttle. The bike makes this weird 'gurgling' noise, like trying to suck through a straw when your glass is almost empty. This is weird because I properly bled/ burped the radiators with coolant, and filled them to normal operating levels. The coolant spills through overflow hose. anyways - I swapped the radiator because I thought maybe the bike was running hot. I purchased oversized radiators, bought a 1.6 radiator cap (with a temp gauge) and bought engine ice. The bike runs very very cool - the temp gauge allows me to see this. Still, the bike shoots coolant out of the overflow after going above half throttle, making the same weird gurgling noise when it does. Bike has all of its power, top end was replaced not too long ago. I'm lost and don't know what is wrong with the cooling system in my bike. How do I make the bike stop shooting out coolant, and stop making the weird gurgle noise??? Any advice would help me!!! Thank you!

    KTM 350 XC-F Reviews

Hi Guys. I'm in the market for a different bike as mine isn't cutting it for me anymore. I have a 2010 KTM 250 XC and have the opportunity to buy a damn near brand new 2014 KTM 350 XC-F. I've heard a lot of mixed things about the 350, and was wondering what the owners of them have to say about them. I've read a lot about different years but haven't heard much of anything about the 2014. Can someone help me out?
  20. hi, im weighing up between a ktm 450 sxf and a ktm 250 sx, im a veteran rider been riding for 20 + years and was wondering what bike would have more low to mid power? Archie

Brand new 18” DNA wheel with blue Yz (2009-2017) hub, black rim, oversized spokes. Will sell as is or broken down. $200 for the rim and wheel without it setup. DNA sent me the wrong wheel and I’m sick of dealing with them. Local pickup or I’ll ship with or without tire at your cost. Located in the Chicagoland area. Wheel is new and never ridden on.

  22. Hi! So I just bought a new 2015 FE 450 as my first off-road / dual sport bike which I'll be using 60% of the time off road. I'm looking at getting a rather cheap spare set of supermoto wheels for the road. I'm a novice at this and after doing online research I understand that going with 17" 3.5 and 4.25 will have an impact on the speedo (says here how's to resolve this) and will impact efficiency of front shocks. Still, I think it'll be for a smoother and safer ride on the pavement... I can't find anyone online who's done this to this very bike and am unsure about which rims/hubs to get. So before I spend the money (perhaps here), I want to make sure I'm buying the right wheels and hubs. Does anyone know if a Husky FE350/FS501 wheel set will work for the FE450? Are the hubs similar across the newer Husqvarna range? Thanks a lot in advance! Alex
  23. Hey Guys! It's that time of year! Just got taxes back and looking for another bike. I'm in a bind and need some opinions. I ride single track, lots of hillclimbs, harescrambles, and extreme hard enduro. (Silver Mountain Xtreme Challenge) I race my 99 RM250. Only thing still stock is suspension and it's rough! I'm a rider, just never had the money for a new(er) bike. So anyway here's my predicament.... 2015 Honda CRF450R, 73 hrs. Seller is asking $4500 for a completely built bike. Factory connection Suspension rated for 170lbs. (Perfect! I way 170), rekluse radius cx, haeseker built motor top and bottom, Tokyo mods mapping, fmf header and silencer, plus tons more! Or a 2013 ktm 350 xcf with 45 hrs. Stock. Seller is asking $5000. I have a lot of factors coming into play here. Value, re-sale value, and what I ride. I don't ride track strictly woods. I have an idea of what my choice would be but I would like some confirmation . Any input is greatly appreciated!

    Arctic Cat 450 (2011)

This is my wife's machine though I use it when I go fishing sometimes. I would rate it a 5/5 if it weren't for the constant issues with the actuator.
  25. Hey Guys, So I am 270# and 6'. I used to ride and want to get back into it. I definitely have a good amount of experience to handle both a 250 and 450 but not sure if a 250 will be able to handle me. Right now the bikes I am between are: 2012 YZ450F @ 50 hours for $4000 CAD and trail ridden https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1302150376&requestSource=b 2012 KX450F @ 35 hours for $3800 CAD and trail ridden https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1300722287&requestSource=b 2010 CRF450R @ 45 hours for $3200 CAD and trail ridden https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1296942462&requestSource=b All these bikes are in really good condition from what I can see from the pictures and none of them raced or track ridden. My plan is to build a 5 acre track in my backyard and build some sort of track along with mainly using it for trail riding. I guess what I am asking is for some suggestions and opinions that could help me decide.
