  1. Is it bad not to have kick starter? Dealer told me all new 2017 models don't have it anymore Bike is a bit lighter but this feature was good to have as a backup.
  2. Hi, Once an error code is present, does the bike need to be taken to the dealer to "clear" the code? I have the 9 short flashes FI blink, which is the MAPsensor voltage too high or too low, according to the manual. I previously had the throttle body OFF the bike looking into a non-starting issue which turned out to be a stuck injector. After putting everything back together the bike ran fine but had the aforementioned FI error blink. One person I talked with said it is not hard to get the bike to throw a code and legitimate or not the only way to clear it was to take it to the dealer. Is this a true statement? Or would the code erase itself if the problem was corrected? Does KTM offer more in depth service manuals for electrical trouble shooting or just the service manual to the general public? Thanks for any help in advance. Jeff in Michigan
  3. Want to see more? "Bumpy Bikes" playlist here featuring: No advertising, no swearing Quick-ish edits High-quality sound with no music and minimal talking Newest vids have split-screen action
  4. My 2012 KTM 500 EXC wont start. I checked the inline fuel filter and removed it from the line just momentarily to rule it out. Still cranking over but wont start. I can hear the fuel pump kick in. I took the air filter off and with a new clean squirt bottle i squirted fuel into the throttle body and it started for a minute then stalled out. So now i want to get at my fuel injector and clean it. I got in there but those two philips head screws are tricky to get out. Im looking for tips on how to get this fuel rail off?
  5. I have my mind set on buying a new 2017 500 EXC, just have to find one as there are none in stock at any of the dealerships anywhere near me. Are motorcycle dealerships like auto dealers where if they can locate a model they can arrange for the vehicle to be swapped? Is it easy enough for a dealer to get a bike, provided there is one available?
  6. I have read so much trying to find an accurate answer that now I'm confused! I have a 2014 exc 500 that I have desmogged, and also adjusted the tps. The bike runs great but I've always thought it runs too hot. The restricted stock exhaust is partly to blame I'm sure. From all the research I've done it seems that about 50% remove the screen and 50% do not. The reason for not removing the screen seems to bee that it will make the bike run leaner than it already does. This would defeat the purpose of me trying to make the bike run cooler. Any definitive answers? Thanks Scott

    Outstanding dual sport performance.

Bought it for woods riding, flat tracking and supermoto. A bit of a compromise for each, but probably the best bike made to do all three.

Love this machine. Love it love it love it. KTM took the market with this one. I've modded back to an offroad with new springs front and rear, XCW tail light, handguard embedded turn signals, full FMF exhaust, Renthal FatBars, Trailtech risers, extended throttle cables, WARP9 dirt and a set of WARP9 Supermoto, custom graphics, Trailtech lighting, trailtech voyager with CNC mount, JD jet map control and a Rekluse. Rips on the dirt and rips on the street. I prefer the dirt overall though.

I've had this bike for about 2 months, putting about 1000 km on at this point. Absolutely love this machine so far and plan to do some decent trips on it in the future. Have been using it off-road where I use to only take my MX bikes, as well as for a commuter to and from work on 110 km/h highways. Great all around bike.

The 500 EXC is one of the most powerful standard production Enduro racing machines available on the market. The combination of light weight and high-capacity, high-tech, SOHC 4-stroke technology is the right choice for all those seeking maximum, yet controllable 4-stroke performance. Combined with playful handling, this powerhouse is regarded without doubt as the benchmark in its class. Outstanding dual sport. Now that the intense 4T vibration issue has been solved it is even better. Tires wear out quickly on the street. Beautiful bike that is a one of a kind in the market.

The only change I made was the gearing from 15/45 to 13/48 which uses the same chain. I can go very slow in 1st & up to 18 mph easily. There is a nice overlap between gears & I can pull the front wheel up in 3rd without popping the clutch. It is an awesome bike.
