    Only thing is right turn signal melted off. Also have 2003 KTM 450 EXC 2014 Honda CRF250l and 2013 Ultra Classic Limited.

  12. I did a Google search to try to find out the differences between the 2016 years. The results where the engines were the same but I find that hard to believe since the husky does not have a kick starter just an electric start. The husky seems to be 7 pounds heavier but I didn't see what causes it to be. Other then that they seem the same. I was hoping someone had a good link to a side by side. Or knows these bikes well enough to break them down. I not opposed to a regular exc500 as I had an exc350 that I sold yesterday and loved. I just wanted the larger engine. Thanks, Chris
  13. Bike ran perfectly halfway to work until I stopped at a red light. Turned green, I took off and it had enough power to roll me halfway through the intersection. It almost felt like it ran out of gas (full tank). The bike never died, but would not rev much past idle without having a wierd bogging sound. I had to push the bike out of traffic to a nearby parking lot. The bike will start instantly with no problems even cold and idle ok on its own. Inline fuel filter is clean (replaced a few rides ago) later I pulled the spark plug and it appears to have a layer of white residue that is about to flake off. Lean condition due to clogged fuel injector? Bike has about 800 miles and 25ish hours if I remember correctly. I have had surging issues while in mid throttle, but that hasent happened in a while. Plan to replace spark plug when one comes in. Any suggestions? Pictures don't do much justice, appears white on the tip, white/tan on the center and wet/black on the threads. Reshimmed my valves (ran great before and After that) All stock.
  14. Just ordered a 2015 500EXC got a decent price of $11,300 out the door, but the mod's & protection are another $ 1000. I need advice on the most critical mods for California trail riding, Mostly faster Middlecreek and PiPi type of Singletrack (very similar to D-36, B level Harescramble terrain). I'm a 57 y/o very experienced off-road rider 200lbs without gear. I like my bikes fairly soft suspension wise. Current ride is a Kawasaki KX 250 2-stroke. Rode a dialed in 2013 500EXC with lots of mods (no engine work) but desmogged, Euro Flashed ECU 14/50 gearing (could go to a 14/51 or 13/48 for just a little extra lugging), FMF 4.1, and MT 43 trials tire. Now I do not know if the 2015 will need all this extra out of the box and would like to know what people have heard/know. What I am planning , but would like suggestions whether I need this for the bile to run fine on the trails - just really don't want to spend much on the extras if not required. 14/50 or (51 if available) gearing with a new chain or Should I just go to a 13 /48 and keep stock chain almost the same as the 14/51 rear licence plate/LED light fender replacement ( Sicass ) FMF 4.1 Muffler with Euro spec ECU flash Scotts steering Damper adapter (already have the damper) Smog Block off plug Maybe new fork springs after break in, shock should be fine Protection: KTM Skid Plate KTM frame guards EE Radiator Guards and Keep stock radiator front protector (Don't recall the name) Cycra Probend Hand Guards, swing arm protector Later I'll add front disk guard and rear shark fin pipe guard.   15. I just sold my 350 exc and put a down payment on a 2016 500 exc. I should be picking it up next week. Anyone around here have a 2016? Cant wait to get that 500 in some single track. I loved the 350 but after riding my brother in laws 500 I was sold.

My technical question is, are there any cost saving options available for repairing a 2016 KTM 500EXC with a seized engine other than having the KTM dealership tear it down and repair it by replacing all the damaged parts? I was told by the dealership that KTM does not have any complete "crated" engines, so my engine will need to be disassembled and rebuilt at a price of at least $4000. If you are curious how it came to be that a 2016 KTM engine seized up while riding it, well some would probably say this was to be expected given that I had about 160 hours on the bike without an overhaul, but I am curious whether this really is typical. I have searched lots of parts web sites, and I have found a few places selling rebuilt KTM engines, but none advertising them as for a 2016 500EXC. Is it possible and should I consider trying to find an older rebuilt engine to swap out or are there differences between each year or say the XC-W that would require some customization work that is impractical to make it work? I am new to motorcycles having purchased my first bike - a 2016 KTM 500EXC - last July just after my 51st birthday. We instantly bonded, and I rode it almost every day, frequently using it for commuting 90 miles /day then taking to the trails as often as possible. At 160 hrs. I was well past the 120 hr. maintenance that called out for new piston, valves, bearings etc. (est.$3200), when fate caught up with me. I had hoped my luck would last a bit longer because only a month ago it leak tested good, valves were still within spec without a need to re-shim, and I was diligent about the oil changes with the $19 quart full synthetic. While still in half disbelief that I'm no longer mobile on two wheels, I dropped the bike off at the dealership where I purchased from, and am waiting for the call back with the ransom demand to pay.
  17. I was new to KTM this spring in march when i picked up a used 2012 ktm 500 xcw... I put a bunch of hours on it and I was so impressed that I decided to go pick up a new 2014 500. Bought it last saturday, Spent a few hours on it after work on the week nights going over the bike, greasing everything setting up the suspension etc. Finally got around to throwing a leg over it today and not even a half mile down the road the motor lost power and started knocking/banging. Man, I was so shocked I thought I was dreaming. Went from being so happy as this was the first anything with a motor that was purchased brand new to it just failing right underneath me. Dealer said bring it back. I really hope KTM takes care of me. I'm not sure what to ask for but I know I do NOT want that same motor rebuilt. Ill keep you all updated. And also, I am in no way bashing KTM. I still think they are great bikes, and I really couldn't see myself owning anything else I like them so much.
  18. I haven't really had a chance to take my '14 500 EXC on any "woods" trails up to this point, until yesterday. What we were riding yesterday, was TRUE woods riding. More or less, no trails, just riding thru woods, picking spots between trees. 😏 That wasn't too bad, and I got along fine with that. But, later in the day, we started riding in a dry creek bed, which wasn't really a big deal either, BUT we had to go up and down the banks on some pretty steep slopes in places, and that's where the honeymoon ended... I've known all along that this bike is NOT suited for climbing, with the stock gearing, but yesterday really proved that out. The gearing SUCKS if you're going to be doing any real climbing. Needless to say, I spent a LOT more time on the ground than I would have liked to. 😢 In the midst of all of that crashing, I managed to break the lenses on both my front and rear turn signals, so now those need to be fixed. With all of that being said, this bike is STILL awesome!!!, it just needs some tweaking for the kind of riding that I would like to do with it. I was originally thinking that I was going to go with a gear ratio that would allow me to keep my stock chain, but after riding yesterday, I think that's no longer the case. I think that I'm going 13/50 with a new chain. I really want to have that super low end power. And, a bad day's riding is still better than a good day at work. 😉 CADman_KS

    Lots of fun, my first dirtbike since being a kid. Lots to learn. Runs strong, starts quickly and easily. Overall great bike.
