  1. I have to opportunity to purchase this 250. The guy told me that the motor will fire but only stays running for seconds. Dirty carburetor for sure. Either way, I can get it for $1,100. Is there anything else that I should be concerned about? I own a 2001 XR 650 R and a 1996 CR 500. I want a CR 250 for my collection and love working on my bikes. I feel like this would be a good project bike. Any additional advise will be well received. Thanks
  2. Hey guys, more 85 CR250 talk! So my clutch has been a total B**** to pull riding and I swapped out clutch cables, and while better wasnt great. When i pulled the clutch/waterpump cover off to check corrosion (see my radiator talk thread) I also checked the clutch. The previous owner threw in an aftermarket clutch pack with those BS tight springs and i saved the plates and swapped to OEM. The outer clutch basket was pretty grooved (1-2 mm valleys) and i took my file and ground them smooth. I reinstalled everything and when i operate the clutch im noticing that the 2 most outer plates are the only ones actuating. Is this just cuz theres no load right now, or did i install them wrong/or really eff up the basket with my file hackjob.

So where do I start bought a bike knew it had blown engine so bought another motor fast forward to confusion put engine in didnt wanna move made some adjustments pulling bar out that goes across clutch basket area could of been locked in place binding motor causing issues . freed that thought I burnt clutch up so replaced it then back together And nothing so take bike to factory race mechanic I bought another clutch and $500 with misc other repairs . Blah blah blah so we got a engine that has had spring pins behind clutch basket replaced - clutch Replaced *3 and still we are not on track -. any suggestions
  4. Ive recently purchased a mint 2000 cr250 ran great for the last 15-20 hrs and then fouled a plug and wouldn’t start. Put in a new plug and had no spark. Started checking all my wiring and had no resistance on the secondary coil. Bought a new oem honda coil installed it and bike started first kick thought i was in the clear until i gave it some throttle. Died instantly and again no connection from primary on coil to plug wire, can a bad cdi ruin a brand new coil almost instantly? Went through every wire and connection and everything checks out fine. Lost at this point
  5. Hoping to get some experience input. I have a 94 cr250 that has a hack job of JBweld on the left case and make shift silicone gasket on the flywheel cover. I ordered a 98-99 left side casing. I want to make sure that the casing is interchangeable with the 94. As well as compatible with the internals, or will i have to buy new internal parts. In addition the bike already has an 01 head on the 94 engine as well the stock 94 carb.
  6. While doing the right side crankshaft seal on my 1997 cr250 a small m6 or m8 threaded stud about 3/4 inch long fell out it has no head only a threaded body
  7. I just picked up a 2004 Cr 250 and the vibration in the bars is unreal I was wondering what a cheep way to reduce the vibration would be. thanks
  8. Hey guys i just rode a 900 dollar 1998 cr250 i bought 2 days ago and it ended up with a hole at the bottom of the engine through both cases. I dont know much about engines so does anyone have any ideas on where i should go from here. I can probably sell it and cut my losses or is it worth fixing it?   9. After a recent crash my handle bars got bent up pretty bad. I was wondering which handles bars are best or if I should stick with the stock bars? Has anyone on here used or preferred bigger bars?
  10. My 2003 CR250R has had a small amount of what I believe to be coolant in the tranny oil since I bought it, bike has about 25-30 hours on it. It sat in storage for most of its life. What may cause this? Is it the water pump seals or is there a seal in the engine that needs to be replaced? thanks in advance
  11. Hi, longshot, but does anyone have a good valving spec for a 94 cr250r shock? I picked up a very low hour bike recently. Going through everything. Dumped the shock oil and it looked like new... that's how low hour this bike is! I don't really want to drop the money on a gold valve, when i think the stock components can be made to work well for nothing. This year was the first to get the updated larger port shock piston, which seems much like a modern piston to me, ports are quite large, so seems no reason to change it out. Any help appreciated. I'm 83kg and midpack Vet b speed, MX.
  12. Hey Guys, Just recently picked up a '85 CR250 and am sprucing her up. My real issue is the front brake as im having difficulty rebuilding the master cylinder and calipers. The master cylinder piston wont come out after removing the spring clip and the pistons are jammed in the caliper. At this point im pissed and im wondering if i can slap on a caliper/master cylinder from a 2000's CR/CRF. Any of you guys have any info/suggestions or am i hosed?
  13. I’ve got a 2002 cr250 and I’m getting rid of the mikuni carb and putting on a new Keihin pwk airstryker. Mods are Fmf fatty with turbine core, vforce 3 reeds, fly wheel weight, running 100 Sunoco when I can get it at 40:1. Mostly woods riding at a max of 3500ft elevation. Looking for good bottom-mid and fair top end. Any suggestions in regards to jetting? Thank you
  14. There's a cap on the left side of the head with a h and l mark and a small screw inside the cover I have a feeling it has to do with the powervalve
  15. I cannot find a full plastics kit for less than 200 after shipping on eBay and if I find individual parts it’s around 200 also does anybody know where I can find a fully red plastics kit for a 93 cr250
  16. So I am going to be rebuilding my shock on my 2004 Cr250. The back is not raced and is ridden track and trails. What weight for the oil would be better, 5 or 7?
  17. Hi I am trying to restore a 96 cr250 my question is is there any other cr or crf models I can use the oem brake hoses from as the 96 hoses are obsolete thT somebody has tried thanks in advance
  18. I have an oddball question. I replaced my bars and installed a new OE throttle cable. Everything works as it should, but when I quick release the throttle the slide bangs down real hard. Maybe I've just never really noticed before now. I'm sure I'm overthinking it, but with contact like that something has to give.
  19. Hey guys, I have a really big decision to make and could use a second opinion. I am planning on buying a dirtbike in the next week and can’t decide which one to buy. The CR250 is a 06 that’s absolutely mint. It has had only had one owner and is completely stock except for a pro circuit pipe/silencer and rear sprocket. It even has the stock plastics that don’t have a single scratch on them. The bike is priced at $3700 and has been very well taken care of. On the other hand I’ve found a 2018 yz250 listed at $4000 that has had two owners and is in a little rough shape. The aftermarket fmf exhaust is a pretty beat up along with the silencer and has Boyesen clutch covers along with pro taper handle bars. No internal engine work and it’s been raced before. I have heard many positive/negative things about both bikes and know plenty about them and their pro’s and con’s, especially the CR. Are the new YZ’s really all that much better than the late model CR’s? I know this is a Honda 2 stroke forum and opinions will be biased but I might put this in the Yamaha forum as well. (I am leaning more towards the Honda anyway..) What should I do? Which bike should I get? I’ll rarely ride trails with some friends but mostly going out the to the track and even might race it some next summer. I’m 5’9 and 160 pounds and have had plenty experience with bikes. I sold my yz125 last summer and am just looking to get back into my old hobby as I’m studying at the university. Any replies would be appreciated, thanks.
  20. Doing a full bottom end on my dad's 2001 CR250. I'm at a loss with which crank to go with. - I have the money to go OEM but the OEM was a tin covered crank, and a few shops suggested going with newer cranks. - I could go Hot Rods, but they're tin covered. From browsing forums, everyone seems to prefer Hot Rods to Wiseco, but they're not without their share of failures. - I've had an old Wiseco with tin. It blew up. I have a new Wiseco that's solid with stuffers, it's served me well. I called the Wiseco rep and he said they make the 2001 solid with stuffers. I'm going with Wiseco top end. This is the current impasse for this build. I'm going full OEM with the bearings, because no one makes transmission bearings and I might as well for the main and seals. Any thoughts on where I should go with this or firsthand experience would be hugely appreciated. I just want to put the best in the bike. Thanks! Also, if anyone is selling an 18 inch wheel/rim for 2001 CR250, let me know! Thank you.
  21. Hey guys, I'm looking to get some new controls on my 89' CR250R (brake lever, clutch lever, and rear brake pedal). Due to the fact that OEM parts are no longer available (unless you find some old rusted parts on eBay) I was wondering if anyone has redone this model year with currently available hardware. Trying to find if some modern controls will fit and work easy with this bike. Thanks!

  23. Hey guys, Crankcase Oil Leaking From the Exhaust Port 2002 CR250R I think it’s coming into the combustion chamber via the right side crank seal. I’m going to swap out the crank shaft seal. But question is this. Beneath the Prime drive gear is the drive gear collar. Is there a seal that resides inside this collar?
  24. Hey guys. I’m in the middle of a build right now and am looking for some information on wheel compatibility. I picked up a 07 cr250 frame and am putting a 2000 motor in her. I’m using 2008 crf250r front forks, triples, rear shock, and swingarm. My question is, what year crf450 wheels can I use? I can get a set of 2013 crf450 wheels and tires for a slamming deal but I know there was an offset change at some point. Any help is appreciated. Thanks y’all.
