  2. Does anyone have some details about the Los Coyotes MC enduro race at rowher? Jan 19th..... Format?
  3. Never ridden Johnson Valley OHV. Advice and riders needed. Where to go, what to bring, any thing to watch out for. Thankx Date: April 13-14 2013
  4. I was taking my kids, a buddy and his kids to Bear Reservoir. While walking the cooler from the SUV I stopped a loan ATV'er and asked him where all the bikes I saw cruising around were going since they were not plated. Seems like a nice area. It seems there is a whole dirt biking world out there to explore. Anyone know the area really well and can speak to it? I think life would get possible twice as good if you could explore miles and miles of that scenery with a dirt bike. Say it is so!

California Windy gap trail 69 at Lake Pillsbury

I've done this trail and find it much harder then trail 6. That said I have not done it in years and currently I am not ridding as my ride buddies know. My goal is next summer to do it again but I was wondering if any body has seen it lately. I was wondering about its condition and if it was even in decent shape.
  6. Everyone should be calling the Miwuk Ranger station about this at (209) 586-3234 Closing this road blocks our access to ride Deer Creek. I ride and travel that road frequently and there is no reason for it to be closed. It is another attempt by the Stanislaus Ranger District to limit our access to OUR Forest! This is from their Facebook Page Stanislaus National Forest, Forest Service Road 3N58 (Deer Creek Road) is temporarily closed due to high hazard tree danger. Call the MiWok ranger station at 209-586-3234 for more information. OHV users are encouraged to use Crandall Peak Road or Hull Creek Road.
  7. I'm sure most of the guys here never rode there 15 plus years ago when it was considered an A level riding area. Those were the days, no trail maintenance and bike swallowing ruts with nothing but single track. Too bad they ruined it, it kept a lot people out and was a safer place to ride without the fear of a head on. There were no fenced off areas, and some of hills were flat out gnarly.
  8. Went out to Cow Mountain today for the first time in 2+ years. I had one of the best rides in quite some time. There were just a few people out there and I didn't run into anyone on the trails. My loop was from Lakeport side to 17 to 24 to 6 to 3 down the road to 11 to 19 (never rode it before but it's my new favorite trail. Reminds me of an trail 24 some time ago) to 20 to the horse trough. To finish the day I figured i would drop down Benmore (23) and take it 25 around and up to the main road. From the Benmore Bridge to the steep climb up it seemed like it was better but where I thought it would get better the trail seemed like it was way rutted out where it used to be really nice. So I continued down the rutted and shale trail 23 turned right to jump on 25. Boy was I in for a surprise. From where 25 goes deep in to Scott's creek down to the Lp side to the creek crossing on 25 was a mess ! I couldn't believe the ruts, erosion, and everything else that the trail has endured. My dad used to ride his quad with me on these trails all the time and it was like our favorite loop. So I then crossed the creek and started the climb out 25 and I made it about half way before I came to a halt with a big rut on one side and shale on the other. I kept making attempts walking etc. until my bike started to over heat. I shut her off let her cool and thought about which way I should pick to get outta the mess while in the middle of the hill. I decided to turn around and take the rutted up mess. I managed to make it up that side after a lot of clutches and straddling the ruts. Even with a new front and rear tire it was a mess! Was the trail just kicking my butt or does anyone else struggle through those parts? I don't even know how they could call that a dual track trail for quads and 4x4s with how nasty the single track was now a days. I am glad my Dad wasn't on his quad because that coulda been real nasty. Please let me know what you guys think of it !
  9. Starting a new thread for people that like to or want to go to Ocotillo Wells, I go a lot and know the areas well. Figured I would start another thread for this season to try and meet up with riders to go have some fun! First weekend is this one, lemme know if your thinking about coming out and I would love to go ride and give tours for those that are unfamiliar with the region. Leaving tonight until Sun eve or Monday, bringing my RV, Jeep TJ, and a few motorcycles (YZ250, CRF450, CR500) Should be a blast! At this point I dont have anybody to ride with this weekend so post up if you wanna go play in the dirt. There is a little bit of everything out there so its extremely diverse and a lot of fun as long as you know where to go, it can get boring if you just follow the map around to the points of interest...but I know of much better ways around, as well as the BLM areas where there is so much more to do! -Speed
  10. This sucks. . . http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/eldorado/news-events/?cid=STELPRDB5362068 Court Order Prohibits Motorized Vehicle Travel on 42 Popular OHV Routes Release Date: Apr 4, 2012 Placerville, CA Contact(s): Frank Mosbacher Forty-two off-highway-vehicle routes that cross meadows in the Eldorado National Forest may be closed to motor vehicle travel this recreation season while the Forest Service completes an environmental analysis, announced Eldorado National Forest Supervisor Kathy Hardy. The potential travel prohibitions are the result of a February 2012 court order by U.S. District Court Judge Lawrence Karlton. The order said the Forest Service failed to comply with the National Forest Management Act in 2008 when it designated “open for public motor vehicle use” portions of 42 routes that cross meadows. Judge Karlton ordered the Forest Service to “set aside” the decision that designated these segments as open and to reconsider the decision. A final court order with further direction to the Forest Service is pending. In the interim, Karlton ordered the 42 routes remain closed to motorized public use. The final order will identify specifically where travel will be prohibited until a new environmental decision is made. “I know that prohibiting travel on these routes will be a big disappointment to forest visitors, but we have to be responsive to the order.” said Hardy. “I have a team of people lined up to complete a supplemental environmental impact statement as quickly as possible.” The SEIS is scheduled to begin in April or May 2012 and to be completed by April 2013. Hardy says many popular high county routes may be affected by the closure. Some of these routes include: Barrett Lake Jeep Trail; Squaw Ridge Four Wheel Drive Trail; Clover Valley/ Deer Valley Trail; Strawberry Four Wheel Drive Trail; Carson Emigrant Trail; Allen’s Camp Motorcycle Trail and the Bucks Pasture Motorcycle Trail. The Rubicon 4wd Trail is not affected by this court order. Maps and a complete list of the routes affected by the court order will be posted on the Eldorado National Forest website at: http://www.fs.usda.gov/eldorado. These maps will be modified to reflect the final court order once it is received. A free-of-charge motor vehicle use map that shows the routes that are open to wheeled motor vehicle use will be available at all Eldorado National Forest offices in June 2012 reflecting the final order. “I intend to close the routes where it makes sense to do so if the final order prohibits travel on routes that cross meadows,” said Hardy. “A route may be closed near a meadow or some distance away depending on how difficult it is to turn a vehicle around.” Some routes will also be closed indirectly because they branch off closed routes and will not be accessible.

    California Frank Raines Riding

Hit FR last weekend with my son and came across a trials competition - pretty cool event . I put some short clips i the video with others of my son and I riding some single track . dp
  14. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,....................................... Sure, Sure, Sure! I'm thinking October or November. The rain should have come by then to knock down some of this dust. I'll have my son in tow & he'll be ready for some hills. Red sticker, green sticker, plate, it doesn't matter. Stonyford is an OHV, legal & ready for everyone. I like to think I'm an intermediate rider, not fast but not too slow. & Stony is so big, I'll want to eat lunch out on the hill. 60 miles max. http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/pages/1234/files/2007%20carb%20revised%20riding%20seasons.pdf You'll see "Davis Flat" is open year round. Ski season will not yet be on. I still have some time before it's snowed in. Now if I only had a guide!? Somebody to show me where the good stuff is & how to avoid the Valley of Doom! You know I don't want to get lost again! When should we go? Where should we meet? What time to stage? Will there be pictures? Movies? You know you'll want to show me around!
  15. The NorCal Friday50 Club and Friends will be at Stonyford for a weekend of riding, campfires, brews and campfire BS, it's back folks and anyone is invited. Last year we had around 15 people show up with a special guest (baby arm holding apple) showing up just to bring doughnuts on Saturday, Eldorado650 showed us all what a 650L can do all weekend, still2smokin got the award for Best Packed Moto Hauler, and the list goes on... Hopefully between myself and others, the USFS, some volunteers, and other cool people, we can clear most of the downfall on the trails and put together some fun loops. It's been another weird weather year and I hope we don't get a late snow dump that will shut down the upper mountain trails, but we'll just have to see. More details coming soon. Hockdog

    California Frank Raines OHV vids

Went to Frank's on Christmas day with my neighbor(Craterbum) who has been there many times. Got the grand tour, small place but great challenging terrain. As hard as you want it. Neither one of us were feeling that froggy since we rode Carnegie the day before. Still fun, a little cold but we had the park to ourselves as others rolled in as we were leaving at 1:30 or so. Some single rut on the west end http://www.vholdr.com/node/57701 More fun on the west end http://www.vholdr.com/node/57674 Dropping down the Gorge http://www.vholdr.com/node/57643 Some tight stuff at Franks http://www.vholdr.com/node/57637 Easy hill giving me a hard time http://www.vholdr.com/node/57633 Sucked into the rut http://www.vholdr.com/node/57614 Into the Creek bed http://www.vholdr.com/node/57603 And out of the creek bed http://www.vholdr.com/node/57605 Who put that rock there, a failed attempt http://www.vholdr.com/node/57598 More of the East End http://www.vholdr.com/node/57562 East End at Franks http://www.vholdr.com/node/57542 If you haven't been there and like a challenge, it is worth the trip. Nice campground also.
  17. From the ARRA: Senate Committee to Consider Legislation to Reopen an Important OHV Area in CA Representatives Sam Farr (D-CA), David Valadao (R-CA), Jeff Denham (R-CA) and Paul Cook (R-CA) sponsor H.R. 1838 which would designate 75,000 acres of Federal land in San Benito and Fresno Counties in California as the Clear Creek National Recreation Area (NRA) and would ensure access for the responsible use of off-highway vehicles (OHV) in the area into the future as well as designate 21,000 acres as the Joaquin Rocks Wilderness (the area is currently being managed similarly to a designated wilderness area). This legislation has already passed the full House of Representatives and will be considered by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on Thursday, September 22. If you are from California, you know the importance of supporting this legislation. For those of you not from California, you are receiving this message as your Senator serves on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and will be voting on this bill on Thursday. Send an email urging your Senator to support this important bill and urge its passage! Take Action Now Background: Clear Creek was closed in 2008 based on a questionable safety rationale related to exposure to asbestos. Subsequently the California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission commissioned an independent risk assessment study which concluded that management and operational strategies could be effectively employed in the area to allow OHV use without exposing the public to unacceptable risks. This legislation would guarantee that moving forward, the area will be managed in such a way as to provide for all sorts of legitimate and responsible recreation, while also providing for the safety of all of the area’s visitors. Further, H.R. 1838 would implement a user fee program for the area that will provide for the management and improvement of the NRA. H.R. 1838 has the endorsement of a broad array of local OHV organizations, businesses and enthusiasts. This local support is possible not only because this legislation would reopen the popular OHV area, but also because diverse constituencies were consulted to develop a land use bill that could attract a wide range of support. Or if you have done it, want to lead the way?? FAQ's: how long does it take to do a loop? clockwise or counterclockwise? does this trail include the elusive "mexican $%* house"? will I see unicorns and double rainbows?
