    Colorado Booby traps in Rampart

Received this via email... but I can neither confirm nor deny it's validity. Anyone have any additional info on this or seen any signs of malicious activity? Ride aware!
  2. Hey guys, Me and a buddy are headed to Taylor Park the first week of September to do some trail riding all that week. We're staying at the cabins there at the reservoir. Wanted to see if anyone else would be there that either wants to tag along with us or would let us tag along with you. My buddy has been going up there with a big group from Oklahoma for a long time but hasn't been in years and I have never been to this area of the Gunnison National Forest. Also, if none of you guys will be in the area, send along any recommendations for trails that we should hit or any we should stay away from. Thanks ahead of time! Jonathan

    Colorado Rampart snow amount?

I know we have so far had a dismal amount of snow overall in the city. Up my way by the Berthoud track we have around 6". Does anyone know what the trails are looking like down Rampart way? I just have my Raptor all dialed in and I want to play. Planning ahead here since it will be next Sunday when we head down. I will be asking later in the week as well and I will have my son call up to his mother, who lives up there and ask, so I will even post what I find out on that perspective.

    Motocross THUNDER VALLEY NATIONAL

My son and I are going to our first national race, Thunder valley round. Is it ok to bring a cooler with snacks and drinks?
  6. Hi guys, First of all I am new here and very new to the dirt bike scene hence this last minute question. I own a 2011 YZ450F and I am going riding with some friends this weekend in Taylor park Colorado. My bike will be fine seeing as thought it has fuel injection. My other 2 friends, one has a 2006 KX250F and the other fried has a 2001 YZ250 2 stroke. We are all pretty new to this but do enjoy having some fun once in a while. So about a year ago I took the one friends yz250 with my other friends kx250F to Taylor park which altitude is about 7500 - 10000ft and the bikes ran like crap!. The 2 stroke ran better than the 4 stroke but both bogged and had almost no power at all. We are getting ready to again and I was honestly hoping someone could tell me what jets we would need for these two bikes at this altitude? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  8. hello all, long time lurker first post. i bought a xt350 without a title for $300 from a buddy. when i checked out it started easily and ran fairly well. it has about 3500 miles on it and seems in pretty good shape once i got it warmed up i noticed the idle was turned way up and didn't run at high RPMs until i had taken it a a couple blocks. so heres my problem: i'll get it started and let it warm up. it will idle just fine and rev up perfectly. but after i go about a quarter mile once i let off the gas and put it in neutral it will die. even if i dump the clutch and try and let it start with the rolling power it will die on me. it takes about 10 minutes to get it started again and it will do the same thing. i just disassembled the carb and it looks fairly clean but i don't know the most about these carbs. any ideas? thanks, cal
  9. Use at your own risk. If you want the Excel to check my work or input your own values email me at Phoenix27101@gmail.com. There is a very real possibly that some calculations were done in error; no one has checked my work as of now. All numbers were based on calculated values not actual values. Nonetheless, numbers should be in the ballpark. Made this spreadsheet/ chart to correct coolant for altitude to assure the same boiling temperature as stock. I wanted to retain the same coolant/ specific heat, and boiling overflow to stay within heat specifications of the engine, not mask overheating with different chemicals. This is not to say that a lower coolant temperature wouldn't be a better solution, but distilled water + inhibitors boil too quickly at my altitude. I was also curious as to how the altitude affected radiator efficiency.
  10. PMI IS CLOSED TO ALL USERS!!! My daughter and I went to PMI yesterday to ride. The "city park ranger" stopped us and told us to leave before we even unloaded. The word from him was until next Thursday, verbal warnings, starting Friday, they will start ticketing. I was told by this "ranger", $1000 fine and up to 1 year in jail if you are caught out there. This supposedly applies to ANYONE. If you are going to the dragstrip or road course run by Faast Motorsports, no issue as long as you are on the paved road. Time to have a talk with the city council. I will not state my actual opinion of the city leaders and of this "ranger" who was a J%$#^SS"! He acted like he couldn't wait for Friday so he could start issuing tickets. Is the city leadership thinking "cash cow" for the city of pueblo?

  13. A buddy and myself cleaned Nate creek single track (Owl Creek pass, from Ridgeway side to Silverjack reservoir). It is great up there right now... and log free. Double check the Forest Service site to confirm it is still open. The Silverjack area is technically closed due to the East Fork Fire but Nate creek is open.

  15. Hey guys, Any suggestions for rides in the mountains a couple hours from the Denver area? We ride Rampart and 717 all the time, and are looking for some new scenery. Also, I'm not looking for the tight and rocky stuff. Anything more technical than the areas I normally ride aren't that fun to us.

    Colorado New to CO

I am new to Colorado and so far have to say that the riding out here is awesome. I have been to a few different areas in the mountains above Boulder and each place was really cool. The terrain out here is a lot different than from where I came from (state shall remain nameless since it seems to be one of the two most disliked out here). But what I'd really like to comment on is how cool all of the dirt bikers are that I've met so far. Everyone out here seems to really enjoy riding and wants to pass on good riding spots to anyone else. It's awesome. I also want to thank Mike who bailed me out today and gave me a ride on his BMW 1200 back to my truck after my bike crapped out. His bike was pretty sweet and he saved me about a seven mile hike back to the truck. So after a month I really dig the riding and look forward to doing a ton more as long as I'm living out here. Please let me know of great places to ride. James
  17. High rockies rider here... It's getting cold and snowy already! Looking for any recommendations as to riding spots in CO/UT in the winter besides Moab...

    Colorado Taylor Park Saturday?

I'm driving up to meet some friends in Crested Butte Saturday and would like to get a ride in Saturday afternoon before they get there if anybody is interested. I was there last weekend and have a map of the trails we rode, just looking for someone else or a group to tag along for safety purposes. Slow B rider, don't mind dealing with the rocks, haven't done any of the hard stuff accept Star. If anybody riding Taylor Park is available to meet up Sat 8/25 please reply, email or PM me.
  19. Figure this amazing weather we have right now is not going to last forever, so better take advantage of it now. Looking for someone to ride with this week. Don't really care where, but prefer southwest Denver area--don't have the time available to make it an all day trip. Was at Rampart last week and conditions were good-dry and dusty. Let's ride.

    Colorado Lefthand Canyon Info

Im heading up to left hand canyon with a friend on saturday and wondering if any one has any photos from the S/T up there? Every time i google Lefthand Canyon OHV or ST or any thing else i get returns that talk about stuff on the left hand side of the trail in a canyon.... very annoying How hard are the trails. I know the place isn't huge but it super close to me.
  21. I'm at the point that I just can't take the corruption, stealing, and stupidity of the California legislature. My wife's brother and wife live in the Evergreen area and it looks really appealing to me. I've got a couple of questions: 1. How's the political climate about dirt biking in Colorado? Is Colorado facing massive closures that California is? Based on what I found on the web, the TMR actually is opening up new trails in the Rampart OHV area as apposed to stupid California where we have to fight tooth and nail just to keep what we have with all kinds of stupid new restrictions and seasonal closures. It's really pathetic. 2. How long of a drive is it from Evergreen to the Rampart area? It looks like there are 100's of miles of trails. My dream is to live near areas where I can ride all day and not ride the same trail twice. 3. We want to stay near Evergreen, but is there better areas to live? 4. What kind of shape are the schools in? We're facing 35+ kids in the classroom right now because the stupid school unions want to keep there big fat pensions, health coverage, and retirement at 55. 5. How many months a year can you ride dirt bikes? What about mountain bikes (my other passion) 6. What's it like to commute in the snow? I've been in California all my life and have no idea what it's like to live day to day in the snow. Will a front wheel drive car survive, or do you need a 4X4? 7. How's the community feel in Evergreen? Is it a good place to raise kids (I have a 9 and 6 year old)? My wife is a social person, so she needs the sense of community. 8. What kind of people live in the area? I'm kind of a limited government type and just want to be left alone. I can't stand planned communities and home owner's associations. I don't care if you're liberal or conservative, smoke dope or have bible study, just don't tell me how to live my life and I won't tell you how to live yours. 9. How are Californians treated in Colorado (although I don't think I'm what is considered a typical Californian)? 10. Is there smog restrictions on classic cars? I have a non stock 69 Camaro that would suck if I had to make it smog compliant. 11. What are the property taxes in Colorado Evergreen area? I've looked on line and found conflicting data. One website says it's approximately .67%, but a real estate website implied it was up to 3.5-4% which is absolutely nuts! For a $600K house it was like $22-24K a year, or close to $2K a month, is that right? Thanks!
  22. The Responsible Recreation Foundation is proud to announce the expansion of the Colorado Trail Patrol. The OHV trail-monitoring program will have a larger scope, a new name to match its increased objectives, and a new website. The Colorado Trail Patrol will now be known as the Stay The Trail Ambassadors. This new name reflects the close relationship this program will have with the Stay The Trail educational campaign. Over the years, Stay The Trail has united the Colorado OHV community behind the ethics of responsible trail use. Now, those dedicated enthusiasts will have the opportunity to participate in sharing that ethic with other trail users and a calendar of trail events they can assist with. Stay The Trail Ambassadors are encouraged to Ride, Educate, Monitor, and Maintain. The program builds off of the existing support OHV enthusiasts have shown for the Colorado Trail Patrol. Those previously trained individuals will be rolled into the new system (if you are a CTP volunteer, look for an email in the next few days updating you with a few new training tips). For new volunteers, we hold online training sessions every few weeks. Check our online calendar for the next upcoming time. Ride Our volunteers are encouraged to keep doing what they love, enjoying Colorado’s extensive OHV trails. Colorado’s OHV community’s intense enthusiasm is what drives this program. Educate Being role models while they are out on the trails is the best way to reinforce responsible trail ethics with other enthusiasts. Volunteers are prepared and encouraged to speak with other enthusiast’s they meet on the trail regarding responsible OHV use. Peer-to-peer reinforcement is crucial in cultivating a statewide culture of stewardship. Stay The Trail educational material will be provided for volunteers to carry with them. When you meet someone on the trail or trailhead, it is always a teachable moment. Monitor Trail conditions change on a weekly basis. Volunteers have access to an online reporting system where they can upload photos and GPS waypoints of maintenance and signage issues. Active monitoring quickly alerts land managers to issues in an effort to prevent an issue from becoming something larger that can jeopardize a trail’s sustainability. Maintain Join other enthusiasts as we assist land management agencies perform needed maintenance projects. Our calendar will be a hub of information concerning all types of OHV trail projects that need more manpower. Stay The Trail staff will also be organizing unique trail clean-up events and responding to situations that need immediate assistance. Clubs – Please contact us with details about any upcoming trail projects you have organized. Use our calendar and network to spread the word to other interested OHV enthusiasts. If you have an idea for a larger, needed OHV trail project; LET US KNOW. We can help organize. Find out more about upcoming projects and Ambassador training on our new website, StayTheTrailAmbassadors.org and find us on Facebook.
