  1. Noticed some oil on lower r.h.s of engine , wiped it off a few times, went for spin, same thing happened. Its a very small weep but seems to be coming from a breather valve?? Not sure, anyone have the same problem? Another lad had the same problem on advrider, pic attached Tks
  2. First off what (if any) are the good digital tachs to put on our 250l just like to see where I'm at while riding. Also where on this forum should I look to find out what everyone likes to ride in. Riding gear wise?
  3. Here's my 2013 CRF250L. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA1-p0bK35c I was going for an 'adventure bike' look and I'm not a fan of the color red, so I had my plastics dipped. I wasn't stoked at how it came out, but it is what it is. It's growing on me, and if it really bothers me, I can spend another $275 and have the plastics re-dipped. Here's what I did to it: 2013 Honda CRF250L "Safari Edition" EJK fuel programmer, FMF Megabomb header with Q4 muffler with old-skool FMF sticker, 13/42 sprockets, front Race Tech suspension w/gold valve kit, rear Race Tech G3-S shock with 'Safari Orange' spring, Yoshi rear fender kit, HDB hand guards, HDB folding mirrors, HDB front and rear blinkers with flasher Kit, ProTaper fat bars in CR mid bend, folding shift lever, radiator guard, rear master cylinder guard, skid plate, rear rack, modified air box, 12v lighter, RAM iphone mount (not on yet), import-only CRF factory decals (may not use them), speedo DRD, pillowtop grips, Corbin seat in distressed 'bomber jacket' leather, Shorai battery, DNA air filter, K & N oil filter with synthetic oil, number plate stickers, personalized California license plate CRF250L, 'Honda of Kenya Safari Edition' plate frame, and all-white plastics from Thailand, then dipped plastics in animal pattern. Here is a vid I shot a few weeks ago. Bike wasn't quite done and the sound is poor, but you get the idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smHh2IryykU
  4. Well, i decided to upgrade the 250l with parts. gonna be using this to track the progress from stock. Stock 2014 CRF250L Picture taken: 7/3/13 8/20/13 Installed 2 handlebar speakers powered by a 200w mini amp Sound quality is not bad at all. when i ride next to my buddy who has a harley thats straight piped i can still hear what im listening to. 12/18/13 Plasti dipped the whole bike black. Taped off all graphics, logos and safety stickers took 2 1/2 cans of black. about 4 coats on each section of plastic. followed by 2 coats of glossifier Final product of the plasti dip
  5. What would you guys recommend for a skid plate. Thanks
  6. hey what size are you replacing for the rear? especially the D606 which i can't seem to find in the 120/80/18 but do see 120/90/18. if someone either can link to an online store that has the 120/80/18 or confirm that mounting a 120/90/18 is the way to go... thanks!
  7. I received this fender tonight as an early birthday gift. I have been toying with the idea of swapping to a smaller white front fender so the family has been listening to me I guess. I think the white color ties in better than the red, especially with the white hand guards. My plan was to do some research and find one from another bike and adapt it, my son figured he would pull the trigger on a $30 universal one and if I didn't like it then no big loss. New fender... The rear of the fender was going to hit so it was either put a bit of spacers in, heat and bend it or cut off part of the backside... out came the dremel to do some cutting (one of my favorite tools so any chance to use it I do, lol). New trimmed fender next to stock one... Here is how it turned out... Looks way different but I love the white. Wasn't sure on the placement but it's growing on me. I ride 80-90% street so not worried about less protection from the mud. When I had a WR250X Supermoto I trimmed the stock fender on that one as well, I'm not too into the huge stock ones. In the photo above the red on the seat looks way different than the red on the shrouds, in person they look much closer. If that bothers me I may look into painting the shrouds black and red and use a closer matching red.
  8. I have heard that exchanging the crf250l's throttle body for the cbr250r should increase performance, and i was wondering if it would be better to use an ECU from the cbr, or something like the ejk fuel programmer instead; in combination with the cbr250 TB. Has anyone done this mod, and if so how much power did you gain?
  9. Hey I just recently got my 2013 crf250l, such an awesome machine, and now I have purchased some moose aluminum handguards. I've been having some problems installing them, my bars are stock 7/8", but the aluminum inserts that came with don't fit in the ends. The have rubber inserts that are a bit tighter, so I'm going to try to insert those, but also the placement of where the clamps go is giving me some trouble. I also found it kind of silly that the aluminum handguards don't have pre drilled holes for the plastic protectors. Sorry for the complaining, but if anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated. Thanks
  10. Hey guys I just bought this bike last November and am absolutely loving it. 👍 Put about 900 miles on it so far and have started thinking of doing some mods to get a little more grunt out of this 250. Anyways, I've had wheeling experience on other dirt bikes but I guess I'm not as skilled enough to bring the front end up in anything besides first gear on the 250, and I find it to twitchy to really hold one going. So have any of you that have gotten mods, does the front end come up pretty good when you clutch up in say.. 2nd gear? Im pretty thin and only 5'6" and cant seem to on stock, even when I compress. (probably don't have enough weight to really do so properly). Also for wheeling etc, would it make more sense to change the gearing first or get the full exhaust? Thanks for the help guys! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  11. A "work in progress"; i'll notify whenever i update it. Please post any data you have that i could add to it. (Like alternative parts, parts of other Hondas that are the same, torque specs for fasteners, aftermarket parts for other bikes that fit, whatever.) Can't attach .txt, .rar, .zip, .doc, so sharing it via google docs. 🙂 HONDA CRF250L - Tech Data, Specs, Parts: https://docs.google....dit?usp=sharing Honda CBR250R PGI-FI Error Codes: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16FxRHtrQrbpqv42Xq_8_M6xdgchDTiK3wAVuXFNlKvU/edit?usp=sharing (Although the information is for the CBR250R, i'm sure the error codes are the same. Same ECU, different fuel maps.) PS: Formatting/tabs doesn't work right on google docs, and still not when converted to google docs format, so i'll have to make it a web page - later. google docs requires HTML to be converted to its format. It does not keep the same ms Word table/cell formatting. HISTORY... 2013-03-31 HTML, some formatting. Added brake banjo specs. 2012-03-31 Added new doc: Honda CBR250R PGI-FI Error Codes
  12. I've always used the pro-taper SE bars but I keep reading about 1-1/8" bars. I tried doing a search to answer my questions but had no luck so I apologize if the answers have already been posted and I missed them. Besides the bars what else do I need? Will I have to replace the throttle tube? Will I need new lower mounts and top clamps? Are there any negative issues going to 1-1/8" bars? In the past I've used the CR-High bend. Should I consider something different? I thought I read someplace that the 1-1/8" bars are tapered to 7/8" at the ends but have been unable to confirm that which is why I asked about replacing the throttle tube. What prompted these questions is I'm leaning towards getting the HDB hand guards and I notice they sell 1-1/8" bars already setup for their guards and figured it would be easier to get both from them at the same time. Thanks, Jon...
  13. The Honda CRF250L is an all new bike and b/c it really didn't fit well with the other CRF's, we decide to give it its own forum and see how it goes. Meaning, if there is enough interest (discussion), we'll keep it like it is now. If there is not, we may elect to combine it with another more established forum, say the CRF150/230L forum until we think that there are enough owners for it to stand on its own. So, just a "heads up" to manage expectations going forward. Hopefully this forum will grow fast and become a great resource for its owners. 🙂
  14. This thread is designed to help you understand the principles of operation of the engine and its related parts. First I'll use a person for an example I will name him Joe.... Here's Joes parts and what they relate to... Brain = ECM Fuel system = what stomach and lungs intake and convert for fuel for your body Oil = blood/fuel delivery and oiling systems Oil filter = kidneys Nerves = wiring/ carries sensor signals Nerve endings = sensor outputs Mouth = throttle body Throttle = Whoha (grab a good handful and you'll liven things up some...) Bank angle sensor = eyes and inner ear input MAP sensor = Monitored lungs breathing rate to determine load. Throttle position sensor = sees throttles response (see throttle for more details) IAT sensor = nose (monitors temperature) O2 sensor= lungs signals to brain Air injection system = Joes farts Cooling system = Skin and sweat glands Mouth = throttle body Large intestines = header and exhaust tubing Colon = muffler Puckered star = exhaust outlet Think about it some and I’ll be back to cover it from the engine stand point.
  15. It seems like most people are changing to 13/42, but is that because they are doing more off road stuff? I bought the bike to use mostly on the roads; no freeways and maybe the occasional forest service road. I've already spent a bunch to make a nice single track woods bike and the CRF250L is my commuter. Would it would worth it to change gearing?
  16. I just got my hands on a new CRF250L. Since this model was just released there are not yet model specific luggage options. Until some one comes out with mounting hardware for a set of hard panniers, what are my options? I tried a set of Ortlieb waterproof soft bags but the exhaust burned through the rear strap. The inside of the right bag was also hot as an oven. The obvious answer is a generic tail bag but I'd like more capacity and still be able to strap on a tent and sleeping bag. Would a pair of Aerostich tank panniers work? I'm concerned the flair of the front body work would push them out too far.
  17. I am wanting to get a skid plate. Just curious which ones you guys use, or recommend. www.CRFSONLY.com has the Flatland Racing skid plate, Moose Racing Pro skid plate, Zeta Skid plate, and Ricochet Skid Plate. The Moose Racing one is the most expensive, but its not aluminum its a Polyethylene, so it is 40% lighter. Thoughts? Or is this just a personal preference item...?
  18. hi guys, I'm after some folding mirrors. I've seen the ones on RAM mounts, which look great, but seeing as I often park my bike on the street there's a good chance they will go missing quickly. Has anyone tried these... http://www.crfsonly.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/290_296/products_id/3392 or does anyone have any other suggestions? cheers
  19. I went with a H4 xenon gas/plasma bulb that is rated @ 8500K and is a direct replacement for the stock halogen, no need for any extra wires or a ballast, and it is inexpensive too. The brand is GP Thunder if anyone here is interested, it can be found on evilBay. The first 2 pics were taken at night the other 2 taken in the morning. What is everyone else here using?
  20. I know several of you have put the mega bomb head pipes on your bikes. Did anyone go from just the slip on to the mega/power bomb with slip on? I've been doing to math with the airflow wizard I work with and it looks like a lot of money for a small gain.I'm not saying its not there,it would be worth it if it picks up the mid range noticeably. I had an MRD/SSW pipe on my DRZ with a stepped head pipe but I made so many changes at once I couldn't tell you what difference it made.I would buy another MRD if Dave offered one for this bike. Any input would be great.
  21. I love my XR650L...mostly. Here's what I don't like: - carb, not fuel injected - no digital gauges - outdated looks The CRF250L seems to have all the features I want, but the only thing that's holding me back is the engine (size). I'm 6'3" and weigh a good 215 lbs, so the 650L has no problems cruising me around at 55-60. If I got a CRF250L and got a Yoshimura full exhaust and EJK programmer, do you think the bike would carry me around at highway speeds for half an hour to an hour? ALSO: would Honda please just put out a CRF450L already?
  22. Has anyone found a source for front and rear axle sliders for the CRF250L? I picked up a set of Warp 9s for a steal and would love to put sliders on her. I tried searching everywhere I could think of but came up with nothing. Would be so much easier if Honda would have put hollow axles on this bike.
  23. I've read a lot of conflicting views on whether starting the bike in the winter is good or bad. Seems like mostly nonsense to me but what do u guys think? I installed a new can and want to fire it up to test it. Can't ride it, I'm in Ontario ⛄️
