So far this has been a great bike only had it for a short time and only have put around 400 miles ofroad with it that will increase soon though then I will provide a full review.
  4. I just bought a DR350 (dual sport model) off a guy who used to ride daily, 10,000 miles on it. He had it somewhat warm when we arrived, which is a red flag I know, but it started for me on second kick and the test ride went very smoothly, so we finished up and I bought it. Now what I've noticed once I got home is that the bike will start first-second kick and idle very well, but if you open the throttle a bit she'll sputter, and if you don't close it or open it too much, she'll die. The thing is that this only happens within the first 4-6 minutes after a cool start. Once she warms up, I have no problems at all; idles nicely, responds when you gun it, everything. For some more info, I just started it this morning (76 degrees outside, garage kept), and used my phone to time how long it took to be fine - about 6 minutes. I'm assuming this is a carb problem, or maybe the fact that he had some pretty old gas in the tank since he last rode it, but I'm really hoping it's something that can be fixed and not something that I'll just have to learn to tolerate. It's essentially unrideable until it's warm because giving it throttle jerks you around and will eventually stall. Anyone know what I can do?
  5. Hey there. I have a 1991 Dr350s, as my username says. Owned it for about 7 years but its sat for the last 2, before it sat the CV carb was dialed in and ran great. It has stock airbox, k&n filter, DG exhaust. Per usual out of storage situation, I've rebuilt the carb, cleaned all jets and new battery. It took a few times but now idles great and moves fine, but there is serious power/torque missing! Before the storage I could lift the front up in second gear easily, now itll barely lift in first. It goes thru the rpms in all gears but just takes forever. No clutch slippage when gassing it in higher gears. I taken the carb off and cleaned it about 50 times this week. Float is new. Float level is good. I run a 40 pilot and 135 main. Stock needle with the white donut. Diapgram has no tears. Orings good. Valves are in spec. Decompression lever adjusted properly. Fresh gas. Idk anymore. It's fun to ride around but the definite lack of power is really disheartening. I'm at the point where I'm just going back and forth readjusting the float, twisting the mixture screw and ending up in the same place. Literally joined just to see if anyone knows anything else I can check. I'm lost and sad my DR suddenly lost pep. Halp!
  6. hello all looking for some help tracking down some parts required for my conversion. i have a 1990 dr350s with and original carb. im looking for and adapter for the air box in and out as the new tm33 pumper carb has different dimension. also need a new throttle cable and handle. any sites or ebay listings would be greatly appreciated im finding its hard to track down 30 yr old bike parts. hoping to get this old dinosaur on the road this season. thanks in advance
  7. Gday, Has anyone ever done a top end rebuild on a dr350 or even just the rings?? My dr350 blows abit of smoke which is from most likely worn rings, i ride it pretty hard so i dont blame it Would anyone know how much $$$ for the whole top end rebuild or just the piston and rings or even just the rings I might do it DIY just to save money, any advise would be great Cheers toby
  8. Hi all, I'm new to thumper talk, reading for a while though! I'm riding a 83' XT550, which is a great bike. I recently bought a DR hoping to have some fun but can't find any solution for my 93' DR350 S (5k km's) it's starting problems. When I bought the bike it started ok-ish, after 5+ kicks. After it started it ran super great, and starting it when hot was not a problem at all, first kick every time. Now it just died on me, it doesn't start at all, and not sure what the reason is. Clean fuel is going to the carburateur (I've cleaned it to be sure), there is a spark (I changed the plug) and the airfilter is clean. I've checked the valve clearance, but not the valves. The carb was messed with while the pilot screw was turned quite open. Just nothing happens, even when I put some starting flued in the carb. If someone has any ideas I would super thankful!

This old well-used DR is my favourite bike of all time! I've had much newer and more powerful machines but I just love riding this thing. It sports a Vortex airbox and a Keihin FCR carb (amongst a few other things) and it goes superbly, road and trail.<br />Suspension is soft and flexy, but maybe that adds to the fun, who knows.

Now a Supermoto bike. Lots of fun!!
  16. I was riding my bike around the neighborhood when all of a sudden I hear a clunk and the bike shut off on me. I tried kick starting it back up but the kickstart lever was stuck and wouldn’t move. I kicked it hard and got it to move a few inches and it sounded like stuff was moving in the motor but it just seized up again (picture shows where the kick lever will not go down any further). The bike has 16,400 miles on it and I just got it 4 weeks ago. It has been running great for the 500 miles i’ve put on it until now. To me it sounded like something in the motor decided to die but I’m really not sure what’s going on. Could It just be the kick start lever or did the motor blow? Any information or ideas are greatly appreciated.
  17. Hi all, so I recently was gifted a 1990 DR350S and it was in pretty mint shape from PO less than 4k and change on the clock, but he did a hack job on adding in led lights and, he was not great at jumpering things to bypass the side stand switch. I have recently added a new large capacity fuel cell, non vacuum petcock the Yamaha 660 raptor model specific as suggested by people. Now it was running great when I managed to get it kicked over last fall, now it acts like it don't wanna pop over at all. And I've replaced the OEM ignition coil and a new plug with new motobatt, had to go through the wiring on it and well I'm not a electrical genius. But when things are held together with tape and wire caps not a factory job at all. So I got a diagram spent 14hrs on it on two occasions now. I am at whits end, not about to give up cause I love the bike dearly. But I need to locate a new or used harness for a 90 DR350S I'm not rich but I k now these things can be somewhat expensive. And during a pandemic lockdown I would rather be in the woods riding than sitting looking at a wall all the time. So could anyone please shed some light on this or by chance have or know of where I can get a main harness. it's the kicker model with batt and no electric starter. Has all the controls and modules just need the wire harness that brings these lovelies together. Please help I love my bike and want her to live again but I am dyslexic so bare with me.

Project-Fresh out of a barn after sitting for a long time. Last plated in 1998. I picked it up and it was 25 below with the wind chill here in Michigan. Now it's frozen in the garage as my garage door is frozen to the ground.

  23. OK I am a whits end. I have owned this bike for some time and have not been able to get it to run reliably it is the 1990-1991 dr350s - It ran once when I got it and then one more time a year or so later when I had a friend helping me but both times once I turned it off, it would not start again. It has been over a year since the last time and it is time to get serious. - it had a week spark so I changed the coil and plug. -still not good spark but found it was sparking when in the "off" Position as well as with the kill switch in the "kill" position. found a broken ground in the main harness so removed harness, fixed and inspected the entire thing - appears to have better spark, compression was 90psi so I soaked some Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinder and then flushed it.. now getting about 115psi. Used starting fluid and not even a sputter I just am not sure what else to do. it would be nice to have electric start or a way to just turn it over for a while rather than one kick at a time so could hear the motor sounds but I cannot see a way to do that (unless I can find a treadmill somewhere ;-) ) Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  24. Hey guys!! this is my first ever post on tt!! I recently moved out to Utah for college (all the way from Ga) and I couldn't bring my 05 Yz 125 all the way out here (Let alone ride it on the road) so I decided to search online ads for dual sports because I love riding on road and off road, also my dad has a 2000 drz 400 which he used to ride on the street, and I used to ride it around my grandparents 24 acres. Anyway I have found a 1993 Dr350s for $700 that had the cylinder head that needs to be put on the engine and the engine needs to be installed back onto the bike. all parts are included (Including new gaskets 👍) and the guy I bought it from already rebuilt the bottom end because gears were slipping. I decided to take the challenge of rebuilding the bike because I have had previous experience rebuilding some motorcycle engines and I'm kinda desperate to get riding again . I ended up getting the bike for just $600 because the cylinder head had one of the exhaust screws break off into it, and it needed to be drilled and tapped out. I ordered engine oil, Suzuki moly paste, hondabond HT, locktite blue....etc. I also took the head to a local machine shop to get the screw removed as I do not have access to too many power tools. I think I covered the background pretty thoroughly haha now for my question Can you guys offer some tips for putting the bike together at this stage? I have the digital manual and I have been studying it for about a week, but I would like to know some tips specifically for the DR (Or in general for rebuilding an engine) so I don't screw up the engine while trying to put it together. I will take all the tips I can get!! I will put pics up soon!! Thanks Trevor
