Great all round DS bike, not too heavy, good fuel consumption, easy to work on and lots of upgrades available. Seat is not comfortable for long distances unless you have an iron butt...

  11. I have recently installed new LED indicators in my new dr650. I replaced the flasher under the seat as well. Initially the indicators were blinking fine, but all 4 indicators would be on when the indicator switch was set to the right. I found some information that said to pull the bulb from the dash panel and that should fix it. When I tried this it did seem to work however, a new problem has now arisen. The right and left indicators work as they should except that now they don't blink at all. I put the bulb back into the dash panel and when you set the indicator switch to left or right, the bulb in the dash panel doesn't light up now either and the indicators still don't flash. I thought maybe the bulb in the dash may have blown so i tried the bulb from the high beam dash light and it didn't work either. Tested the indicator dash light with a multimeter to see if it was getting power and it only reads 6.7v DC. the other dash lights read 10.7v DC. I checked the 2 x 10v fuses + the 30v fuse and they seem to be fine. I also plugged the original flasher unit back in and tested with it and got the same results. The blinkers don't work at all if I disconnect the flasher unit. Anyone got a clue on what's going on and how I get my blinkers working properly?
  12. Also posted on AdvRider. Anyone who has had a DR650 gearbox let go can you tell me... 1. Year of bike. 2. Mileage. Just trying to see if there's anything in common or something that can be done to prevent this happening to anyone else. So far: 2001 60,000km 2001 55,000km
  13. Hey Guys, I got a DR 650 about 2 months ago, and ever since I've had it it has gotten terrible mpg (best 34 mpg, worst 30 mpg) When I got it, it was a bone stock 06 DR650 with 18,000 miles on it (very clean). At first I noticed an oil leak from the infamous cam chain tensioner gasket, which I promptly replaced. After that I changed spark plugs (ngk cr9ek), new air fliter (twin air), and added a jet kit (pro cycle w/ air box mod). Before the procycle jet kit I had to switch to reserve consistently at 88 to 91 miles on the trip meter. I just got done tuning the carb with jet kit, and I had to switch over to reserve at 73 miles. The carb is tuned with the 155 procycle/mikuni main jet (or the 165 for you dynojet guys) on the 5th notch of the procycle needle jet, counting from the top down. I know it sounds a little rich, but it's what the engine liked. Also when I got the bike it never needed to be choked, even when it was 35 degrees out, just two hits of the starter and I cranked right up. The OEM choke cable was seized up and would not move, so when I put the procycle jet kit on, I replaced it with a knob choke, which got it starting up like a normal engine, ie) need choke when cold. I have replaced the o rings on the carb float, and set to proper float height, along with all new carb gaskets. I will say though with all the jetting and new toy syndrome I have been driving the bike like a bat out of hell and have had long idles to warm up engine for jetting purposes, but it is hard to believe that that could have that much of an effect on my mpg. Any idea what could be causing this terrible gas mileage? It runs real strong, but something has got to be going on considering the mpgs this bike is supposed to be getting. Thanks all, this site members have helped me get at least this far with diagnosing.... I'm thinking dragging brake pad or bad fuel petcock. I don't think it's leaking gas through the stump into the oil, or else it would be way too full. Please help...I need to get better gas milage than a 4 door sedan 👎

Great all around bike. Except for the 70mpg vs 50mpg, I like
DR650 mote than my previous G650GS

Have owned it since 2002, 3rd owner. Too big for the first owner (it's not a good one to learn how to drive in Washington DC). Second owner couldn't handle it either. Bike runs like a champ, great ride.

This bike is my work horse. I ride it bone stock (save a pair of Dunlop 606's) exclusively on dirt. It has never let me down in 8000 miles of trail riding. Only now that I ride black diamond trails have I found the bike's stock limits.
You can see video of this bike riding trails here: youtube.com/ph8tel

The Bike is awesome, however it needs some tweaking, from the stock carb setup. Runs way to lean.
