  1. Hey guys, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a 01 DRZ400s that is for sale near me, it has a full Yosh exhaust header, K&N air filter, and suposedly has been Jetted, it idles without popping but choke on makes it pop like crazy while warming up. I took it for a test ride and nothing really felt too out of the ordinary except the front brakes were squishy as all hell but I hear that can be rather normal on these types of bikes. I used to race motorcross back in the day and I'm looking for a half decent bike I can modify and make a fun trail and jump bike (not like 20 feet in the air jumps but some decent height like maybe 8 feet at most.) I'm alittle worried because the guy is alittle flakey and wont send me a picture of the title so I can verify the vin is not stolen (I forgot to while I was there and he is an hour away). There was also oil on the bottom of the engine case and on the skid plate, he said that the bike has been sitting for the past 2ish years and he only used ethanol free gasoline but I don't know if I believe that kinda shit from not only him, but anyone I am buying a bike from. The gas tank was clean (no rust), the suspension was SUPER SOFT, like hitting a bump felt like I was on a boat, and it has no mirrors on it. Pretty much I'm just asking do you guys think this is a good purchase for 2500? I see the KBB for my area is around 2870, so with the mods I'm thinking its a decent purchase if there is nothing sketchy about the bike vin wise. Anything I should look specifically at when I go back to check it out with cash, any words of wisdom as to what I may be getting myself into? I am mechanically inclined so I'm not afraid to work on the bike, I already own 3 other motorcycles..
  2. So I have a drz400e that I’m converting to on road but it only has one light setting (on when running) so the power for the headlight is only two pronged but if I want to add a light with high/low beam I’m not sure what wire does what on the new light. So what I’m asking is what wire does what on a drz400s (the 3 pronged one) so Ik how to wire it Ik the top/middle prong is low beam powe but I don’t know which one is ground any help should be appreciated 😁
  3. Hey I know this might be some sort of a recycled topic but my DRZ400SM has a straight pipe done by the previous owner and its loud, I will soon be moving to an apartment in Sacramento and don't want to be loud but I also want performance. I was looking at the FMF Q4 exhaust along with the FMF Powerbomb header and a JD jet kit, but after the numbers add up I can get a Yoshimura RS-2 for around the same price. In terms of performance will I regret getting the FMF Q4 over something like the FMF PowerCore 4 a yoshi or even an MRD? Noise is a concern but if its that big of a difference I'll take the sacrifice. Thanks!
  4. Whats up guys. I am wondering if I should upgrade my Drz400, or just sell ot and get a Wr450? Some background: I have a 2000 Drz400 (kickstart ONLY) that I street legaled. The updrades it needs are: > New clutch pack = ..?(want oem so prob. An arm&leg) > Clutch cable = 14.00 > Steel braided brake line = 43.00 > Rear caliper rebuild kit = 19.00 > Rear brake pads = 16.00 > Carb rebuild kit = 50.00 > Upgraded headlight = ..? (Any suggestions?) > Possibly sumo wheels $145.00 without the clutch pack, headlight, or wheels. I will also need to upgrade or refurb. the rear shock at some point. I am wondering if it is worth going all out with the Drz, or switching to a wr or yz? I like that my bike has the updraded cams and carb already and the reliability factor. I also like the weight and extra power of the wr/yz. I just don't know how long they will last before rebuild and general maintenance vs the Drz. So, what do y'all think? Thanks
  5. Hi, I know the subject has been covered billions of times but I haven't found the answer to my question. I know how to set the accelerator pump on this FCR model. But on this model... no time screw no leak jet. A friend bought this model and asked me to install it on his 2003 DRZ400S. I have to adjust the pump because I have a bog when I open the throttle quickly. If I open the throttle in a "normal" way, no issues. The timing is good but for me the duration is not. How can I set it on this model? Thanks a lot
  6. I broke the coolant overflow tank on my 01 drz400 and I desperately need one without ordering from China!! Is anyone parting out a drz I am in desperate need of an overflow tank!!
  7. hey TT community, was wondering if someone could help identify a sound for me .. Ive got a 2019 DRZ400s , pretty stock configuration in terms of sprockets / power mods and all that .. There's a sound ive been noticing during very specific times when im riding. Specifically, when Im going downhill, maybe in a rocky curvy section, and im applying the rear brakes on n off.. there's a 'clanking' sound, like some metal is slapping some other metal, or a general 'clank'.. its odd, i do not notice it on really bumpy roads at all, (so im thinking its nothing 'loose' per se, but i dont know) the chain appears to be at the correct tension.. i do have d606 tires in the stock sizing .. if that makes a difference . Ive only noticed it when doing more 'extreme' stuff (extreme for me, Im still mild) so: downhills, rocky, stumps, drop-offs, with intermittent braking.. The first time ive noticed it was my first OHV ride a couple months back.. other than the sound, the bike feels and handles perfectly fine .. i have no issues with the bike at all, its got about 300 miles on it and runs great If anyone has any suggestions to look at / inspect let me know! thx

This is My second DRZ-400, My last one was an E model this one is a kicker. I absolutely love these bikes but they constantly leave you searching for 6th gear. They hold value very well, are extremely durable, and there is a mass of knowledge and parts available at reasonable prices since they have remained over all unchanged in 20 years. I ride on road as much as off and other than going freeway speeds they are a great bike.

  20. I was wondering if my drz400sm can be fully switch with a kickstart and would she start without a batterie, need a lighter bike:)😆 thankss!
  21. First post, long time lurker for info.. haha i just picked up a "low hour" 2003 drz400 kick start only dirtbike. Ive heard there bullet proof and I love the thing i can absolutely rail it in the woods. I usually ride 2 stroke mx bikes and put time on my friends 450's and such but the balance of this bike is spot on. I can push it hard and still feel reasonably safe. All that has been changed on this bike is bars, it has PT se bars. The previous owner said he layed it down hard in the gravel, bending the stock bars, ruining the throttle tube, bending the hell out of the right radiator, skinning up the stock pipe, and trashing the right side plastics and front fender. He bent the radiator back as straight as he could but it leaked so he took some kind of "putty" and patched it and it held up. I payed $2300 for it after checking the fluids and screaming it around a 800k+ neighborhood for 15minutes hard with no issues😎 all ive done with it is shave and file the bent to hell extremely long oem clutch lever down, install cycra m2 hand guards, remove 20 exclusively quad oriented stickers😑 let some air out of the rock hard balding 17 year old oem tire, and put PT pillow top grips on. After 130miles of absolute shredding on the fire roads, i noticed a small oil resadue around the kickstarter shaft on the right case? Hasnt lost a drop of oil or antifreeze. Looking to get new rubber, sprockets and chain, rejet, pop the snorkel out and getta nasty pipe. Then start working with the suspension.
  22. Hi all, I recently bought a 2003 DRZ400S have ridden it a few times on short road rides. Today I took it on its first dirt ride, about 15 minutes into the bumpy ride I tried getting up a steep hill. I had to give it quite a bit of gas in first and not long up the hill I noticed that the bike wasn't responding to me giving it throttle then it died. Lights went out, and I had no power. Speedo, dash etc. Had nothing. I tried to bump start it and could get it going for a couple of seconds but opening the throttle did nothing and it died again. I checked the battery connection and everything seemed fine. After rolling back down the hill a ways I noticed the LED lights in the speedo turn on for a split second and jiggling the key a little could get them to come on for just a second. Anyone seen an issue like this? Is it a bad ignition?
  23. I'm looking to buy a Keihin FCR, but I've seen that they've recently had quite the price hike. Is it still worth it being $800+? I want to do Hotcams as well, haven't decided on stage one or two yet, maybe one of you can help there too? My end goal is a Cylinder Works 434 big bore kit, but now with the cost of the FCR It might be easier to start there? Suggestions? Oh its currently jetted on stock carb, with a full Powercore 4 system, and 3x3 mod.
  24. Ok I'm in desperate need of some help from a drz electrical guru Stripped my bike down to the frame and had to remove my wiring harness Now the bike is all back together and the harness is back on my bike I'm unable to get power. I'm clueless to what I've done wrong, I marked everything properly (well I thought I did ) and I'm freaking out as it was running minty prior to me tearing it down If anyone can help me or walk me through it I would bo oh so grateful Can upload pics of the wiring ( it's a rat's nest from the previous owner cutting into it ) if someone want to help a brother out 2003 klx400 (basically a drz ) even if someone can show me what theirs looks like I've got everything plug in aside from a black wore coming off the positive connection and I'm unsure where it goes Cant be my ground can it ? Someone please help I'm getting bad anxiety from this unfortunately
  25. Hey guys been awhile. I just installed my MCCT using Fragmastercarls method. Fired the bike up, adjusted and think I'm good. I know its possible to skip a tooth later due to lobe slack being loosened, but when would this happen, right after install? under certain rpm/engine conditions? Also, will a skipped tooth be highly noticeable, with misfiring etc, or could it slip under the radar? I know i should have TDC the engine, but I didnt. Don't judge me EMarquez and Noble! Thanks guys. Happy riding.
