  4. So was out riding the other day and the DNR gave me a ticket for not having my bike registered. I was riding land that has been ridden by many for years and years. He basically told me that until he has a complaint from a landowner that people ARE allowed to ride there but because I did not have my bike registered, he had to give me a citation. I was wondering has anyone else in Indiana ever rec'd a ticket like this? I understand rules are rules, and it would be in my best interest to obey the law, however I don't know anybody that rides, that registers their "orv". He told me that it did not matter if I was riding public or private land, that all machines purchased after 2003 must be registered. I'm sure this ticket is going to be hefty. Anybody have any experience with this before? Thoughts?
  5. Heading down with a buddy for our first GNCC, we're just riding C in the AM, watching the big boys in the afternoon. Wondering how insane the registering will be and how many million riders we'll be lining up with, and maybe what class to run? I ran decent in C this year, going to B next season, looks like I could move up about 9 rows going frm Sr. C to Sportsman B. Anyone have any advice, do's or don't's? Other than show up, have fun and pin it on the hill? Thanks!
  6. Hey everyone, I'm looking for advice as much as location. I'm fairly new to dirt riding and mainly got into dirt bikes because I love to tinker and play and always wanted one when I was younger. I've owned several bikes and always just putt around our 30 acres and on my sisters land and their neighbors which totals 750 acres. We had permission to ride there so no trespassing. But I'm looking to get better at riding offroad and ride some tracks near where I live currently. I've got an offroad model kick start DRZ400 that I made into a dual sport to take to class, so it is a bit of a behemoth compared to a small race bike like a CR125 or YZ250. I live in Lafayette Indiana right now and have been thinking about the Badlands which is 23.1 miles from my location. Is it a good place for someone to start riding a little bit more technical offroad and are the tracks a good place to start? I haven't even really done any jumps (not that I am opposed to trying some small ones and working up), we used to just ride down to the creek and do some fishing and ride the hills. Nothing too crazy as my nephew was pretty young and he was who I rode with. Some day I would like to race once I have the money and riding ability, just as a hobby not for money. Never got that chance as a kid so figure maybe I can get into it as a bit older and financially secure individual I realize that the DRZ is a crappy race bike and I would get a 4 stroke 250 race bike for that like a CRF or RMZ or something. I'm rambling so just let me know if I can learn at the Badlands and give me some pointers on how to find local riding areas. Most people at Purdue are not local so making local friends may be challenging.

  13. Hey Guys, I'm hosting a dirtwise school with offroad legend and teacher Shane Watts the weekend of August 28 & 29th. You get two days loaded with riding and riding exercises with personal instruction from Shane Watts. I've done a one day class with him before and was so impressed with his ability to teach and his attention to individual students that I figured I'd invite him up for a class. There are six spots left so go to http://www.shanewatts.com/schools if you're interested. The trails range from wide open double track, to very tight single track and then we also have a small sand track. The things we're lacking are big elevation changes and water crossings. The dirt is very nice, tacky dirt mixed with sand. There is no camping so check out the motels and hotels in the area.

  15. Hello! I recently moved from Texas to Illinois and am looking for some riding areas. For the past few months I have been going to all the closest motocross tracks to the Chicago area (Red Bud, Sunset and Mt. Carroll.) I have a friend that lives in Lexington Kentucky and we were thinking of meeting somewhere in the middle. Any good riding spots around Indianapolis? Tracks or Off-road. What are some of the good off-road areas in the midwest? Always looking for more riding buddies. Thanks in advance! - Clint

  22. I am looking for the spark arrestor insert for the 4.1 RCT. (FMF Part # 040638). I have had one on back order since April from Rocky Mountain. I just spoke with FMF and they wont be producing anymore until the end of August and they only produce 250 pieces per run. Does anyone know of a dealer ANYWHERE that has one of these in stock that I can purchase? Or I could do a paypal if someone has one lying around their garage. Also, I live in Michigan. Thx -Justin

    Indiana Enduro

Are there any Time keeping Enduros in the Mid west ??
  24. I was out and about yesterday morning on Rockville road and saw a lot of dirt bikes in trucks, on trailers and DS's being ridden. All were headed west. Just curious what I was missing. It was a decent day but not nice enough to draw out the numbers that I saw. It was close to 20 bikes heading west over a period of 90 minutes or so. Matt
  25. Alright, lets get this started- -30 years old -live in NW Indiana -Married, 1 kid (He will be 2 in June) With that being said, I am looking at getting back into this hobby/sport. In the next couple years this will turn into a father/son hobby/sport type of thing I'm sure, so why not get a head start. Anyway, back to myself. I had friends growing up who had land and we or their parents put up little tracks for us to rip around with jumps and stuff but nothing ever incredible. My parents built a house in a partially developed subdivision when I was 8 and on the land behind our house was a mx practice track that some man built for his son who raced, I can't remember his last name, it was a phenomenal track at one point but he kind of let it go to shit after the homeowners assoc shut it down due to noise. But, people would sneak onto it, especially during the day when the guy was gone, so it never went away, just wasn't groomed. So from 8-15 I messed around on that practice track, did woods riding, some trails, cornfields, badlands, private "tracks" but never went to anything other than that. Seems like we had so few places to ride but there wasn't a weekend we weren't on our bikes. So, I'd like to jump back into it. Only this time, I dont have the buddies who have parents that will make us little tracks, that practice track behind my parents is pretty much washed away, those cornfields well at 30 years old I don't think the farmer will be so understanding. That leaves me stranded, I want to do more than trail ride such as participate in open/practice mx but, I'm not sure where to do it. I mean, it looks like there are places around me such as leisure time, motoland, fmx, badlands,g&s, etc. But what places are the friendliest towards new riders? Am I going to be a huge inconvenience if I get out on the track and not trying to clear everything or riding like a mad man? No, I dont plan on buying the bike and taking it straight to the track. I'm going to get some seat time on it again, I've got 5 acres in one area, about 10 in another to "play" on. I just can't build anything. That brings out another dilemma. The last bike I had seat time on was a cr125 (rm50, xr100,rm80,cr125) last bike I rode (other than r6) was a cr250. I know that at this point a 250 2t will be too much bike for me. So, I believe I am going to start with a 250 4t, I am 5'9'' and 165 pounds. If I go used I will be looking at the Kawi and Honda, Hondas seem to be had for cheap and the Kawi I have just always liked. If I go new I will be going after the yz250f or kx250f, that all new 14' yz is damn sweet and the deals on the Kawi can't be beat (about $1k less than yami). After discussing it with my wife, she believes I should purchase a used bike in the $3-4k range and not a new bike. I would rather buy a new bike and not someone elses headaches. Cliffs; -30, married,1 kid -new but not "new" BUT might as well be. -want mx; where? new guy friendly? -new or used bike? kawi/honda (used) or kawi/yami (new)? -anyone near me? -wasting my time?
