  1. Considering a KLX230R for my son. He is 21 and he is a good rider. He come from a WR250R wich the engine failed. He need a good inexpensive bike not too heavy. Is this air cooled bike will heat too much when climbing rocky hill, practicing slow wheelie and slow stuff? We are not after speed...we are more toward the technical stuff
  2. How did you decide? I'm on the fence between the two. With the price being close, what made you choose one over the other? I'd be using it for dirt roads and well established trails - nothing crazy. I'm leaning towards the 230 in hopes that air cooled would be less maintenance. About me.. I've been riding for a little over 30 years. Started on a KX80, and now have a Wolverine 350, Ninja 650, and a chinese Apollo X18 that's holding up surprisingly well.

So I could not stand how quiet the klx230r is, I ride with so many people with loud bikes, so I purchased a Klx140g fmf power core 4 muffler, removed the o2 sensor bung from the stock muffler and welded it in the same location on the fmf and modified the collar that came to fit over the exhaust front pipe. It sounds amazing. Exhaust front pipe does not get hot like the stock, no check engine light, this thing has so much bark.
  6. Had a few snap rings on the shift shaft of my girlfriends 230 pop out of the groove after dropping the bike on the left side. This causes the pawls to come out of the shifting drum and you get stuck not being able to shift the bike. It gets tiring pulling the wet side and clutch apart to get the pawls lined back up on the shift drum. After doing it enough times I finally pulled the shaft all the way out and cut the grove for the snap ring deeper with a dremel and put a slightly smaller diameter snap ring on it. Also adding a shaft collar from the hardware store has made it seemingly bullet proof
  7. I recently bought the Juken 5 EFI tuner all the way from Indonesia. I couldnt figure it out for the life of me and I wanted to go riding soon. So I said ok lets just put the stock one back on for mediocre performance. Plug it in press the ignition button. Light comes on and fuel pump runs but when the start button is pressed it doesnt even turn over. Starter doesnt go. The ONLY things we did were mess with the juken 5 but didnt get very far with it. Put some electrical grease on the plugs for protection. Plug original ECU back in. Nothing else was unplugged or touched. We're not sure what to do. Dealers are closed and this technology is so new. I figured plugging the stock one back in was plug and play.
  8. Hey guys, my name is Christian I’m from CT and purchased my first Dual sport bike yesterday from Danbury power sports. I bought a KLX230, took delivery of it with 0 miles. After driving I notice oil dripping from underneath. It drips from multiple spots, and the chain, crank case, and various parts underneath are oily and have small oil spots slowly dripping as if while driving the underneath gets covered in oil. Not sure what it could be, I’m not experienced with bikes , this is my first one coming from cars. Hopefully someone has an idea from here what it is, I drove an hour and 20 minutes to get this bike hopefully won’t have to bring it back. Thanks christian
  9. Just recently got a 2021 KLX230 dual use bike. I picked up a pair of Cycra universal fit guards. They don't fit. Right side will not clear the front brake reservoir. Left side will not line up because the bars have a pull back. I hate to change the bars just to get brush guards and tougher bars only mean a harder time on the fork if you drop it. Anybody got a recommendation for a pair of hand/brush guards that will fit the stock handlebars?? Looking for the kind with an aluminum brace. Thanks in advance!
  10. Hi there, this is my first bike and I'm having a blast learning about it. Took a spill this weekend and one of the wires going into the clutch housing was severed. Not sure what it does or what I need to order to replace it. I'm able to get the bike started with the electric starter (as long as I'm in neutral) and it seems to run fine, so I'm not sure what the impact is yet. Any ideas? I'm a DIY-er with my Wrangler - this is a new world though, so if I need to take it to the shop, I will. Just curious if its something I can easily fix. Thanks in advance!
  11. Wonder if anyone has put a set of street tires on there klx 230? What tire did you go with? I do a lot more road riding than I do dirt. I’m also not opposed to another rim setup to switch back and forth from any suggestions? Warp9 doesn’t seem to have anything out yet Any amount of guidance would be beneficial
  12. When thinking about adjusting sag, I went to see if the bike came with a tool kit. The manual didnt seem to mention anything. I was able to find a likely location, behind left side number plate, but there is nothing there on my bike. Does this bike come with a tool kit ? and either way, why would they hide a tool kit behind a part that requires a tool (socket or wrench) to get to it ? thanks !
  13. I’m trying to find an LED tail light for a KLX230 with integrated turn signals so I can delete the OEM stalks. I’ve found a couple companies that list such an item for the KLX250 and KLX300, but no luck on the KLX230 so far. On fiche I’m seeing slightly different part numbers. 23025-0355 for the 230’s tail light assembly and 23055-0051 for the 250/300’s tail light assembly. Before I spend $300 on a “maybe” can anyone tell me the difference between them?

  15. Howdy. I got some new levers for my 2021 klx230r. The cheap ones from Amazon. They fit fine, which is great. I lifted my bike so the front wheel was off the ground and wanted to check that the new levers didn't cause the brakes to drag. I was concerned because the lever seems to press against the master cylinder "button" more than the stock lever does. I spun the wheel and heard dragging pads. So I removed the lever to eliminate any hydraulic pressure on the pads. I spun the wheel again and still heard dragging. My bike has about 10 hours of runtime on it. Is it normal for the brakes to drag a little bit when the bike is this new? Here is without the lever installed.   16. Just bought a 2020 KLX230 ABS. Love the bike! Plenty of power and very easy to ride. Took it on the highway and the electronic speed limiter cut spark to the engine at 76 mph. The bike can go faster, but the speed limiter won’t let it. I drive on the highway a lot, to get to dirt trails and to work. Just need about 4 more mph out of it. Does anyone know how to turn off the electronic speed limiter? Btw, I do want to keep the rev limiter on, to protect the engine. Thanks!

  18. I was just looking at the specs for the KLX 230 R. It states that the gas tank capacity is 1.7 gallons. Is this correct? And whether or not that is correct what range are you riders of this model getting? Thanks.
  19. Hi all. To start off I have read all the klx230 threads, some twice. Event the 12+ page ones. I'm working on my buddies bike trying to make it more user friendly (beginner rider). I improved the forks with 20w oil, 6" from the top and cut 80mm from the springs and added 90mm spacer. Much better, well at least it feels balanced front to back now! At least for me (150lbs). My buddie is 230+ so I may be going back in at a later time to take another 10% off the length of the springs with longer spacers. Questions...... 1. Is there any way to adjust the rear spring preload while its still on the bike? I tried a sledge and punch but it would only move about 1/2 way to the next notch. There is not enough room to get a big set of channel locks in there. Your tips appreciated. 2. High idle... ?? I tried the 61.3mm and spring spacer but it did not affect it at all. Then I realized my spring was too short. The I didn't quite get what was being explained in the Asian guys video. But now I think I get it. The slide is on the servo motor shaft and moves up and down. Put a spacer or spring that starts to make contact with the slide (61.3mm). I tried a longer spring and the idle was very low, too low infact. It was just about to die and on deceleration, it would pop too much. I tried 64mm just to see and then the bike wouldn't idle at all and it wouldn't start without me turning the throttle. I back it down to about 58mm and that seems about perfect for this bike. I'm sure other bikes will vary. (I used 2 springs from old air screw adjusters from a FCR carb). For the heck of it, I unplugged the wire but then it wouldn't run right. I've read all the Junken threads and most of the active poster seem to come full circle and put it back to stock. ?? Maybe I got confused with those who are just fed up and decided to sell the bike. (Read too many threads). For now, the idle is much better and will live with it. But if you have some other hot tips, lets hear it! Your advice/experiences are appreciated. -Bob
  20. Ok, I'm an idiot. After lightly flaming the Juken 5, I finally had an epiphany and got it figured out. What I failed to understand is that the ECU must be plugged into the bike AND the laptop at the same time. I was assuming that I could just sit at my desk to look at the programming via the USB-serial connection. So...... since all our Indonesian friends have their laptops on a cart adjacent to the bike (first clue), I did likewise and proceeded to plug all three elements together, Voila! Success! It would be really nice if there was a US importer that would provide an English tutorial.......... And, the software packaging could be better for sure. That said, the Juken 5 is really quite amazing. I am sure there are an infinite amount of ways I could screw the map up, lol. Thankfully there is a base map, which I saved to my hard drive, as well as a version I tweaked and saved to my hard drive as well. The tweaked version is modded in regards to the idle setting which has to be set in a little different manner than one would think. The start/warmup parameters are at odds with the running temperature idle speed setting. When operating temp is reached, the idle remains well over 3000 RPM even though idle speed is set at 2000 RPM.. I did figure out a fix though and now my idle is around 2k, where I wanted it could be. Testing starting, warmup, and running on the stand, I changed a few things, but ended mostly back to stock Juken map parameters. Next up: I'll take her for a short ride tonight and report back.

BLUF: If people would like to see IMS produce footpegs and maybe a tank for some extended range on the KLX230(R), let them know! https://imsproducts.com/pages/contact-us I inquired with IMS Products about aftermarket footpegs and higher capacity fuel tank for the KLX230(R) and received this response: "I’m afraid that we have not built any foot pegs or oversized tank for that new Kawasaki KLX230/R models. I suggest checking back with me in another 2-3 months and if the demand calls for those parts within that time, then we might look at starting up a new project for it.
