    For what it is it's a great bike, modded for more offroad rideability
  3. Hi everyone, I am 5' 6" and interested in lowering my bike. I have read that it can change the geometry and handling of the bike- which I really don't want as I do a lot of off-road riding. I can ride this bike no problem off-road at stock height, but I am in the midst of taking my road test and I am afraid of looking like an idiot especially if I have to try and back into a parking stall for example. In my slow handling test I used my tippy toes to push the bike forward, so the bike's turning radius could be measured - longest 30 seconds of my life! I have already put an after market seat on it which gave me close to an inch. I am thinking the best way to go is the kouba link set KLX 2 0.75" which would drop my 2009 KLX by 0.5", since the front can only be dropped by 0.5" OR should I not bother? Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Hello everybody, I am a beginner biker, i have actually dirt biked quite a few times but it was on a small 70cc baja with an automatic clutch but i have very little experience with larger bikes like the xt225 or the tw200. I am 5'5'' and 120 pounds and by far not the strongest guy out there. I am almost 16 and i'm looking for something street legal although its really important that the bike can handle the trails. I have been doing a good amount of research and have it down to the klx250s, xt225, and the tw200 but im not for sure if the klx is just a little to much for a smaller guy like me. How well this bike does on the road isn't too big of a deal for me because ill never need to go over 55mph. So I have 2 questions. Which of these 3 bikes is better suited for what i'm looking for? And. Is the klx to much for me to handle? If I left out any information that will help, let me know. Also, if you have any suggestions on another bike i should look at that would be great. I don't want anything over 250cc and it cant be under 200cc because my dad also will be riding this bike to work sometimes and hes a pretty hefty guy. Thanks for any information you all can give me.
  5. I have a 2009 Klx250sf and am doing some dual sport modifications. I am having trouble removing the front sprocket. I am replacing the front sprocket, rear sprocket and chain. I went up to a 45 rear and kept the front at 14. I am turning the engine over and am unable to loosen it at all. I would have a friend hold the rear break but the rear tire and chain are not on the bike. Any suggestions or do I have to put the bike back together just to hold the rear brake? I am also running into an issue with putting on my barkbuster handguards because the ends of the bars seem to be plugged from the factory. I am tempted to drill out the thin plugs but am unsure what purpose they serve. Otherwise the only other way they would work would be to buy new handguards. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

  7. Looking for the right street legal dirt bike for my 51 year old mother to ride and to learn some off-road and road riding techniques has proven more difficult than I anticipated. All the bikes I've looked at that spec out with 'confidence inspiring' seat heights weigh close to or well over 300lbs. The only 'lightweight' that I've found is more play-bike than d/s, the Beta 125rr-s and it looks pretty tall for an average/short girl to learn on. The Suzuki DR200s comes to mind as a candidate but is kind of archaic like most the rest of the Japanese dual sport offerings in the US. Key factors in my search are: +low to moderate seat height or the ability to lower the chassis a few inches to allow a 5'3" 140lb female to control comfortably at the stoplight or on the trail. +decent build quality +compliant handling +parts availability +electric start +lightweight or low center of gravity at least +inexpensive (under $5000) +street legal from the factory but really more of a dirt bike than a scrambler or adv bike i think +preferably wide ratio 6-speed Thanks for reading and hopefully aiding in a new addition to the bike life!   17. Are current Klx250s fuel injected? If so, starting whhich model year? I want one for the lake house, and I am tired of cleaning carbs
  18. G'day folks, I've been lurking these forums for a while and have decided to make a thread to help my decision making process. After doing a lot of reading, I've narrowed my selection down to 3 bikes that roughly fit the criteria. Requirements/what I'll be doing with the bike -LAMS (learner approved scheme in Australia) -Mostly casual daily road-commuting -Weekend day trips to bush to check out fire trails and ride light off-road -Holiday inter-state/cross-country trips -Looking for something that is beginner friendly, and most importantly, robust, durable and generally free from technical issues. -Have a friend who's on an XT250 (and going interstate/australia wide tour with it) so something that can match/stay in range with that would be best I'm looking to buy 2nd hand as generally the brand new bikes are out of my price-range (with the exception of CRF250L) So, the bikes are -Yamaha WR250R -Honda CRF250L -Suzuki DRZ400E After doing some reading about the different bikes, it's come up that the Honda has a problematic frame susceptible to bending. (If any CRF250L owners could chime in here, would appreciate it). From what I understand the Yamaha beats the Honda in almost every category, and when buying 2nd hand a lot of cheaper 250Rs are available contrasted with the relatively new CRF250L. Questions for TT members What are the general comments on these 3 bikes and how do they stack up against each other considering what I'm going to be using the bike for? I have a couple of these bikes lined up, and will be going out to have a look at them, would TT members be able to tell me what things I need to look for/inspect when visiting the bikes, and any bike-specific problems that each one of these bikes have? As I have absolutely zero clue what to look for and what to keep an eye out for when examining a used/2nd hand bike. I will be paying a bike inspector prior to when I do purchase the bike so I can be assured I'm not buying a lemon, but I'd like to know what to look for beforehand as well on a preliminary inspection.   19. Hey all. I'm a pretty big trail noob. Looking at a xr250 for a trail bike. Have ridden one in the past, and quite enjoyed it. Went well for my height and weight, and wasn't on any really fast trails so it did the job nicely. Mostly though, the thing that is drawing me back to it is how tough they are. Anybody got any opinions on a better bike in regards to how much abuse they can take? Really not keen on doing rebuilds every 25 hours as Honda recommend for the CRF250 and other new bikes may require, which is why I'm drawn to the xr. All of my offroad experience is on a KLX250 '07 or a XR250 '99. Preferred the XR, felt it was more nimble and fit my riding style better. Wasn't a particular fan of the klx posture, and don't feel that I'm after that bit of extra power for all the extra maintenance that some off road bikes require. What's a decent middle ground? What are my options?
