  1. Share your stories.. I'll go first. This happened yesterday. So yesterday I was riding with some quads. We stopped and I checked my gas. I had very little but made the worst decision to keep riding anyway. We went further and further out until I eventually peeled off and decided to start heading back. About 30 seconds after that I ran out of gas. There were houses about a mile back from where we came from, so I pushed my bike that way. There were four houses. All with every long and hilly driveways. First house, nobody in it, second house no 2 stroke gas, 3rd house looked very sketchy, fat guy had no gas. The very last house I went to had 2 German shepherds that were barking like they were about to eat me alive until I started petting them. I asked the old lady," hello, I'm sorry to ask but do you have any 2 stroke gas?" "I'll ask my husband" she said with a smile on her face. She went and got him, and he said he might have gas. Luckily, he did. He took me on his gator and we went to my bike. I put half of the gas can in there, and we said our goodbyes and I went home. I grabbed 5 bucks and took it back to them and they refused it, but I made them take it and thanked them. Without them I wouldn't have made it home. Now share yours

  3. Some interesting stats... "With his win, Dungey joined an elite club, becoming just the sixth rider in Monster Energy Supercross history to reach the 30-win mark (Ricky Carmichael, Jeremy McGrath, Chad Reed, James Stewart and Ryan Villopoto). The win also extended his podium streak to a remarkable 30 straight. Dungey is now one podium away from tying Ricky Carmichael for third on the all-time list at 87. He will also equal Carmichael's all-time career starts this weekend at 115. *Deep breath. We have more* His eighth win of the season equals the career-best mark he set last season. Goodness, this man is on fire! Oh, and he can clinch a third 450SX title this weekend too. The simplest way is to win. If he doesn’t he just needs to pick up two points on Ken Roczen and not lose 18 to Jason Anderson. Over the last three rounds, Dungey has led 59 of a possible 60 laps."
  4. Im trying to decide which 2016 xcf to buy, the 250 or 350. I've read reviews and alot are impressed with the 250, and others say the 350 installs more on the slow technical stuff. Im a intermediate rider and this will be my first four stroke. Im a little over 6'2 and 250lbs, i've sat on the 250 and its a good height for me. Ill be doing trails as well as motocross, i just dont know if i need the extra power from the 350. So if you have a 2016 xcf or have ridden one please give me your opinion. I only want 2016 input since its a completely new bike, i just dont want to buy a 250 and out grow it down the line. Thx
  5. I haven’t seen a lot of info on Mods for the 2017 KTM 300 XC, so here is what I have done to my bike. I got my bike about 2 1/2 months ago. I took it out for some break in rides and it ran terrible. I mean horrible. It was so rich it struggled everywhere I went. I read everything I could find on the Mikuni and realized it was a problem. JD didn’t have a jet kit out yet, but I found info on the Lectron carb that was quite encouraging. You shouldn’t have to buy a carb for a $9,400 bike, but I decided to do just that. The Lectron was supposed to fix my jetting issues, get me better fuel economy and self adjust as I change altitude. While I was waiting for the new Carb, I used the supplied jets and found a combo that ran fair. Not good. I started putting some time on the bike and quickly got confident in the suspension. It is much better than my old 2014 KTM 450 XC suspension was after I spent $900 on its suspension. While I felt like my $900 was well spent and the 4CS suspension was much better than stock, it fell far short of the new air fork on my 300xc. I am much faster in the whoops on the new 300 than I was on my 2014 450xc. I race expert in the desert and do pretty good, just for reference. Back to the Mikuni. I got the bike jetted so it ran decently (not great) I did a test loop. I ran the bike hard. It was 25 miles of sand washes, sand single track and sand whoops It was a tight technical loop. I measured everything very close, (I use Strava). I averaged 24 MPH and 1.75 gallons of gas with the mikuni carb. I was a little bummed because that isn't good enough MPG to finish some of my race loops with the stock tank. Then I did the same loop again with the Lectron carb. I averaged 25.7 MPH and used 1.25 gallons of gas. Faster less gas Yea! I had heard that the Lecton used less gas. I'm a believer. The Lectron fixed my jetting, and gave me much better fuel economy. One other benefit of the Lectron is that they recommend running 100:1 amsoil Saber premix. I run the amsoil, but at 80:1. I’m chicken to run 100:1. I put one of the 1st Lectrons on a 2017 and had to do a little adjusting to mine, but it was easy. I believe they have them dialed in for the 2017s now just plug and play. Read More Lectron Carburetor Reviews To race I need a spark arrester. I went with the EE enduro engineering end cap. There maybe a better set up, but when I got it FMF didn’t have anything out yet and I had read that KTM pipe and silencer was pretty good. I stayed with stock and have a removable spark arrester. Runs great, I like it I put a plastic skid plate on. I got a AXP from England. It was the only one I could find and I wanted plastic. They are quitter, allow the bike to flex properly and slide over rocks. I like aceribis, but they didn’t have one yet. Luckily my spare wheel set for my old 450 fits the new bike with the addition of new front wheel spacers. I believe I got mine from Slaven Racing. I read a lot of good reports on having the head on the 300’s machined or replaced with a higher compression head. Non were available for the 2017s yet so I called Slaven’s racing and ask them about milling my head. They said they had done some and for $55 I could mod my head. I gave them my elevation and had it done. I got it back after about 10 days. I think you can get it done faster, but I’m from a small town and had some shipping issues on my end. The motor is stonger on the the bottom and mid. The power hits right now to. For $55 it’s a great mod. They will have a head out soon that will have 2 inserts, one for low elevation and one for high elevation. My head is set for low elevation. It runs great on pump gas and will also work better than stock at high elevation, just not as good as the high elevation head at high elevation. The high elevation head will ping at low elevation without race gas. I ride at 1700’ so the low elevation head is best for me. I put Bullet Proof Designs Radiator guard on. They are guaranteed for life and very light. Only just slightly heavier than the plastic ones they replace. I feel confident the radiator can take a hit now and not be damaged. We have a big hill in Mesquite, NV where I ride. Its very big and very steep. 3rd or 4th gear pinned to have a chance at climbing it. I was a little less than 50% on my 450, but this light weight has but to the top 9 out of 10 tries. And that was before the head work was done. I’m very happy to be back on a 2 stroke. The counterbalancer makes the motor so smooth it feel almost electric. I’m not getting anything from Lectron or Slaven racing, but I highly recommend them for 300s. They have done testing on the 2017 300’s and have been very helpful.
  6. Is it bad not to have kick starter? Dealer told me all new 2017 models don't have it anymore Bike is a bit lighter but this feature was good to have as a backup.
  7. Hey I was wondering if anybody knew of a good tire to run in the front for a tubliss system. I keep getting flats riding over rocks on my KTM 200exc. I ride woods, The tires keep slashing and puncturing. At this point I feel that the front tube at 13psi was much better. I think Maxxis IT dessert should be good but they are heavy and hard. Are they the only good tires for this application?
  8. Hi, It all started when I installed new handguards on the bike. Not sure if it is even related but the e-start button stopped working after a few runs. My fear was that the Cable ties for the handguard was too tight and might have damaged the Cables to the starter button. Just to be sure I replaced both the start and kill switch buttons but the problem was still there. If I bridge the thick positive cables on the starter relay, the bike jumps to life just perfectly. This is where it becomes interesting. if i hit the e-start button while the engine is running, the start button works and the starter motor spins. But as soon as I kill the engine, the e-start button stops working. I noticed that there was a cable with peeled/damaged insulation from the voltage regulator so I replaced that and even the charger relay just to be sure but the problem is still there. I belive I inspected every cable by now and I'm lost on what to do. Any thoughts? //Gruntor 2015 Husqvarna FC450
  9. hey guys been looking into goint 2 stroke this season for single track riding and some recreational enduro racing. Ideally i'd get a 200xc but they're pretty hard to come by these days. I've been looking into the 250 as there's quite a few of them on the used market. The SX's are generally 1,000 cheaper and ~12lbs lighter. Curious what you guys think it would take to get an SX woods ready and wether it's better to just buy an xc or xcw? SX pros: –lighter –cheaper –no electric start (one less thing to break?) XC pros: –less snappy mapping better for tight stuff –heavier fly wheel weight –softer suspension –bigger tank –6 speed tranny: will only miss this on fire roads –kick stand –hook up for lights –electric start –19" wheel COSTS SX to XC mods: –power valve springs: green to mellow it out: $0 –gearing. 14/50? for more grunt: $120 –bigger tank: 2.9 gal xc oem tank: $300 –fly wheel weight: heavier: $120 –suspension: can you just turn down the clickers? $0? Total $540 Woods Mods for either bike: –hand guards: $70 –skid plate: $100 –radiator guards: $160 Total $330 All together: $870+tax/shipping
  10. I have a 1999 KTM 300 EXC with WP Extreme 50mm Fork. I am looking to upgrade to an inverted fork. I definitely want something that is a direct fit and requires no modification. Any thoughts?
  11. Hi, Once an error code is present, does the bike need to be taken to the dealer to "clear" the code? I have the 9 short flashes FI blink, which is the MAPsensor voltage too high or too low, according to the manual. I previously had the throttle body OFF the bike looking into a non-starting issue which turned out to be a stuck injector. After putting everything back together the bike ran fine but had the aforementioned FI error blink. One person I talked with said it is not hard to get the bike to throw a code and legitimate or not the only way to clear it was to take it to the dealer. Is this a true statement? Or would the code erase itself if the problem was corrected? Does KTM offer more in depth service manuals for electrical trouble shooting or just the service manual to the general public? Thanks for any help in advance. Jeff in Michigan
  12. So my 2016 150 SX is fouling plugs, and we determined it was the jetting. It took two hours to foul each plug. The bike had a 180 Main and a 45 Pilot in it, and the fouled plugs looked like this And then i changed the Main Jet to a 175, and the pilot to a 42, and now the plug looks like this after about an hour of riding . Is that a good plug, or is it lean? I can easily change it as I have main jets 170-185 and a 42-48 for my pilots. I just don't want to wreck a new bike, thanks
  13. I have a 2006 KTM 250 SXF. I just got it back from the shop, they put a brand new top end into the bike and got her all tuned up. She Started on first kick every time no choke. A few days ago when I went riding before I left my friend left the ratchet strap off the side of the truck causing the wheel to catch and flip the bike over completely snapping my front fender off. At first I didn't think anything of it considering nothing major seemed to be broken. But when I went to start it I kicked it a good 10 times before she would fire. I thought that was weird but continued. After stalling the bike it took me 15 minutes of continuous kicking to get the thing to fire. Then it started bogging as the ride went on. The valves are all still in alignment, cams are timed properly, and the cam train is tight. The spark plug works great and the carb jets are clean. Today I tried to start it and it wouldn't even try to fire until I heard the loudest back fire in my life. Sounded life a gun firing right in my ear. Right after the backfire it started in 2 kicks. I know that this is alot of information but does anyone have any ideas? I don't really have anymore money to take it into the shop again. Thanks for the help!
  14. I just upgraded from a 2005 KTM 125sx to a 2013 KTM 125x. I loved my old 125, really learned how to handle it but it was having mechanical issues every time we rode. I figured an upgrade would be the answer but I'm having difficulties on the new one. I ride single track bush trails and places that I wouldn't have had a problem before, I keep spinning my rear wheel. I can't get any traction at all unless I have real momentum going into hills. Yes, some of the trails are icy right now but I have studded tires so it should just hook up! The first ride on it, I had to duck out from the pack because I couldn't make it up the hills. Even one of the experienced guys tried to ride it up a hill and couldn't get traction. Friends suggested a flywheel weight so I had my hubby install a 10 oz (recommended by Stealy website) and while it has a bit more chugging power it hasn't solved the tire spin. I literally tried a hill I should have no problem with for over an hour - as soon as I lost momentum and tried to work the clutch to keep the revs up, it would start spinning and I was done. If I hit the gas too hard on fairly flat terrain it spins out. Whats the deal? Hubby even disconnected the engine mapping so its not quite as peppy but hasn't helped. My confidence sucks now and I don't know if its me or the bike or both?! Any advice / suggestions / guidance on riding techniques or bike set up that might help!? Anyone else experience this?

  17. Hello, I have a street legal 2003 KTM 525 EXC. It needs new tires but I am not familiar with DOT rated tires. The terrain by my house is all rocks and sand. I ride it mainly off-road but once in a while I hit the streets. I know that I should get DOT rated tires but which kind would work best for my terrain? Or should I just forget about the DOT part? Thanks.
  18. Calling all 2 stroke know-it-alls! I just lost my 2 stroke virginity! Kind of embarrassing since I'm 23, a little late I know... Anyway, I need the know how and some ideas for good hard enduro mods for my 2006 KTM 200 XC-W (let's keep the prices tame.) I did a little research and have a basic understanding of the wide ratio thing and it being the same as the EXC (if I'm wrong someone please correct me). I also have a 2017 KTM 350 EXC-F that gets beat up pretty good so I know about all the protection parts I'm gonna need. I really want to learn about engine mods, tuning the engine and carb and really just the basic ins and outs of my beautiful new 2 smoker. I would also like to know what bikes I can share parts with. Doesn't have to be a perfect, I'm not apposed to modifying. If you guys could recommend some good parts/mods/videos that would be awesome. Thanks to anyone with the knowledge and experience to help me out.
  19. I am working on a 2009 KTM 250XC. I am replacing the steering stem bearings. I pressed out the steering stem shaft to remove the lower bearing. When I went to press the stem back into the lower clamp I noticed a punch mark on the top of the stem. It turns out that this bike has a eccentric shaft that can be used to change the fork offset. Can anyone tell me what the stock setup was? Punch mark towards the front of the bike or rotated to the rear of the bike. Would it be better to set the bike up for more stability? I understand these older XC’s tend to be a bit twitchy.
  20. Hi guy's, Can anyone give me a proper guide line for power valve setup on a '04 300exc KTM. There is a bit of play on the control valves on either side and I have replaced the oring on both to specifications. Is that normal? I haven't ridden my bike in 4 months and it's getting on my nerves now.
  21. Hey all, I recently have had a problem with my 2012 ktm 250xc-f. About 4 hours of ride time ago I had a new clutch pack and springs installed as well as a clutch bleed. It worked flawlessly up until today. I dumped the clutch pretty hard and now it is not engaging completely. After watching hours of YouTube videos and reading many forums I decided to bleed it and see if that would fix the problem. I started with a reverse bleed as that seemed like the most common people have been doing to fix this problem, I removed the slave cylinder and reservoir cap and did the whole process exactly as it was shown on Rocky Mountain atvmc’s YouTube channel. That did not fix the problem, In fact it just made it worse. I then went on to do a full fluid flush with a syringe at the bleed nipple and letting the fluid flow out of the top of the reservoir. That helped a little bit but the clutch would still not completely engage so I figured there were air bubbles in the system that needed to be bled out, which prompted me to bleed it again and then do the reverse bleed after it to finish it off. This helped a little bit more however the clutch still will not engage completely. After 5 times of doing a full bleed on the system and still not having the clutch engage properly I figured something else must be wrong. The lever has good pressure, the same amount of not more, than prior to this problem occurring. I then decided to check the system for leaks. I meticulously inspected the whole system and everything looked fine. If anyone has had this problem in the past or has experience working with KTM’s hydraulic clutches and would like to share some advice or things to troubleshoot that would be greatly appreciated. - Thank you
  22. My 2012 KTM 500 EXC wont start. I checked the inline fuel filter and removed it from the line just momentarily to rule it out. Still cranking over but wont start. I can hear the fuel pump kick in. I took the air filter off and with a new clean squirt bottle i squirted fuel into the throttle body and it started for a minute then stalled out. So now i want to get at my fuel injector and clean it. I got in there but those two philips head screws are tricky to get out. Im looking for tips on how to get this fuel rail off?
  23. So I just bought a KTM bike and the seller said It was a 1994 ktm 400cc lc4 exc 4 stroke but the bikes vin number says it’s a 1994 440cc 2 stroke mxc. I’m not sure what it is?
  24. I have a ktm carbureted 2 stroke and when I go down a steep hill ( mellow slopes hills doesn’t cause problems) clutch in or in neutral the bike wants to die. If I don’t hold the throttle slightly open or give it whomps of throttle it will die. Any ideas?
  25.
