  1. So I was replacing the crank and piston on my 01 kx250. When I got the bottom end pushed back together I flipped the case over and found I busted the inner case where one of the tranny gear dowels slips in. Is this worth trying to fix or am I better off with a new case?
  2. Just bought a 2000 KX 250 two-stroke for a great deal when looking for a project bike. When I put the bike in neutral which is a little hard to find, it jumps into first gear by itself and trys to takeoff no matter if I squeeze the clutch lever or not. When I first started the bike it basically did a burnout in my garage with no throttle applied and the clutch lever pressed then it just stalls out eventually this happened for about five seconds. Attached are some pictures of my clutch disk and clutch basket from what I researched today the basket should not look this bad , but do you guys think? Is the clutch the source of my problems or is it something internal and would I need to split the case.
  3. Hey so I’m going to check out a 1994 kx 125 with a nice motor other than a blown top end. I would like to know what years your can part match because it’s very tough finding parts for the 1994.   4. Hi all, I have 2 Kx250s one 1998 and the other 2002 which I am doing full engine rebuilds on,one keep to and one to sell. I will be doing some motocross but mainly taking part in enduro races just for fun. Both engines are getting new wiseco crankshafts, new bearing and new wiseco pistons and ported barrels and maybe a late model set of forks. I have read in forums the 1998 to 2000model kx250 were much better and the 2002 model was not so good. Having ridden many 80's Kx125 and Kx250's I'm unsure of the later models. Your comments are greatly appreciated.

  6. I have had my KX250 for some time now. It runs well but recently, I aquired different bike. I picked up a 2006 Yamaha WR450 4 stroke. It has been uncorked but it is still a heavier trail bike. Powerwise it runs circles around my KX. I know the YZ450 is going to have more power than my KX. I thought my KX would at leat be close to the YZ450 though. I didnt expect the WR450 to take down the KX250. I would also like ot know what I can do to bring the power up on the KX. Right now it has a stock pipe with an FMF Q. My gearing on the bike is 13 51. I notice on hill climbs that I have trouble clearing the top with the KX. Starting out on the pipe in 4th. Midway up the hill I am down to 3rd, at the top I am dropped to 2nd gear and the chasing the rear end. The WR is just a matter of 3rd gear wide open and hang on. It never gets pulled down. I love my KX. I just want to know if the problem is me or if it is something with the bike. I ride mostly trails ranging from single track to wide open desert and of course the aformentioned hill climbs. What are your thoughts. The KX still has OK compression but it is due for a rebuild and I am trying to find a way to bring the power up while it is apart.
  7. I have an 03 kx250 that I'm preparing for spring 2014. It's running awesome except for its loss of oil. I can't pin point where it is coming from other than the fact that the rear shock appears to be saturated with oil and it comes down onto the tie rod under the swing arm where it finally drips off of. The drip starts about 1 minute after the bike is started and the longer it runs, the more oil will come out. It starts first kick most of the time and doesn't bog or anything. I believe there is a loss of oil in the gear box. Thanks..
  8. I have a kx250 2 stroke and I broke the kick lever and am trying to replace it. I only need the lever, everything else is fine but I can not find a lever for it anywhere.
  9. Ignore my previous post on this topic. I just acquired a 1998 kx250 roller that just needs a motor. Does anyone know what year motors will bolt right in with no issues? Also I noticed there’s a wiring harness on the carb. Can someone enlighten me on what this is for?

  11. Hello everyone, i just buy and KX250 1998 (i think) from a friend. So mostly riding in here is hill climb and some enduro stuff. When i go riding the bike stall easily and it very anoying me. So I have a 2001 kx 250 and my clutch literally blew up and went through my entire motor and I got it rebuilt but my issue is that the after market clutch baskets do not come with a gear for the basket so I have to press my oem gear out so I did but instead of the gear coming off the clutch basket decided to break the basket. Before anyone says go buy a oem basket with the gear I’ve looked at every dealer it is out of stock but I’m looking for advice on how to remove this gear that’s a pain in my ass.
  13. Hello, I recently got this kx250 04. I’ve noticed even when warm it will spray out white smoke. Is this normal? I don’t believe it is coolant because it doesn’t smell like burnt coolant. I was running about 32:1, maybe a little extra oil. This picture was taken on a start, and after about 15 feet the smoke stopped. Thanks.
  14. Hey guys I’m new here. I just got a 2007 KX250. I know it needs a top end rebuild. The question I have is what company makes a whole engine rebuild kit crank and all. I can find them for the 2005 but not the 06-07. I know the cranks are different and so is the cylinder so the 05 kit won’t work. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you
  15. I have a 2022 kx250 that leaks oil from crank case breathe hose after long wheelies. Can i plug it? Ive tried catch cans but I had to where to mount it where the oil would naturally flow back to the motor. What can i do to stop/counter this
  16. So I’m looking to trade my sx125 for a 250 2t and this one guy is interested. The issue is I can’t really comprehend what model this is. The seller says it’s a 05 (looks like a 04) and when I asked about it the seller said he has heard both but don’t know. and the swing arm and linkage doesn’t seem to look like a 04 or a 05. And when I asked the seller about the swingarm, he said it was original as far as he knows. A guy he’s know with has owned it for 15 years (at least what he says) should I just stay clear?
  17. I know this discussion has been talked into the dirt. I've attempted many after-market tricks, lower foot pegs, taller seat, bar mount rise, taller bars, etc. Obviously these bikes are not engineered for those of us with taller stature. I did not like the higher center gravity of a tall seat, and the front bar mount holes changed the rider triangle too much for me and affected cornering for mx/sx. I am curious however, (brand specific), if in the last couple of years if one provides a little more comfort for us taller guys? I am about 6'2 and find myself struggling transitioning from seated to standing due to past injuries, as well as riding in a crouched attack position. Looking to purchase a new '20/21 250f for this season, and am curious out of the box which provide the most comfortable cockpit. I do know that KX comes standard with the ability to drop pegs, but also appears to be the lowest seat height and smaller bike dimension? I also realize YZ has the tallest seat height, just curious as to whether that should really be the deciding factor? or if other cockpits feel more comfortable for tall guys straight from factory. I am no where near a testing track, and my location has most riders limited to YZ or KX, so most riders in the area have one or the other- so am seeking advice on ALL manufacturer's if some of you have had the ability to test and compare? Any experience/insight would be much appreciated.

  19. What do you guys think? I keep seeing articles about how amateur racing is dying because your average rider can't afford to race a 4t bike. I've heard RC, Villipoto, and a few other big names pushing the 2t to come back and I'm also seeing more and more 2017 concept CR250 RM250 and KX250s as if they are coming back.... I've even seen a concept for the 2017 CR500 I'm not sure if they are actually bringing these bikes back or if people are just fooling around on the internet So what do you guys think? I think the 2ts should come back and take racing over I also think the 250 2ts should be ran with 250 4ts Just my opinion though
  20. Hi all, sorry for kinda flooding the forums latley... Anyway, I'm in the market for a new yz250 or a kx250. I'm pretty much set on a yz at this point though. I was able to find this bike which dosen't look half bad: https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/mcy/5599278530.html Then i found this little thang: https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/mcy/5591473823.html Its much newer, a 2013 vs a 05 and the price is much lower, at the same time I like the looks of that price tag $1400, but can it really be trusted? I really wont know until i go and sit on the bugger and take her for a spin, it's also much closer than the 05 yz is, it's only about 20 miles from my house Vs. about 80.   21. So I've got a buddy whose looking into buying a 2003 kx250. We went to check it out and he liked it, and asked the guy for the title. He handed it to him and he checked the vin on both the frame and title and they don't match up, 3 numbers are off. On the title it shows C33 and on the frame it shows 088. He was going to call it in to see of its been stolen or anything, but he doesn't want to hear that it is and have the police department hounding him for information about it because he doesn't want any part of that since this guy has his contact info. The guys insisting that it must be a typo or something and he never noticed that when he originally traded a different bike for it years back. What do you guys think? I mean the numbers on the frame are too clean and nice looking to be etched to different numbers and it's still got the factory powdercoating on it and shows no signs of being scratched to change the numbers. The guy said hes never swapped frames and he doesn't think the previous owner has either. I've never had this happen to me before so I figured to ask pn here and maybe someone can help me and my buddy out. Thanks guy!

Hi, Would anyone happen to know whether a Kx 250 rear wheel/hub would fit an Rm, I know they are very similar built bikes but wanted to check before going out and buying one, I'm presuming that models from 2001+ will all fit each other?, I've also heard that the KXF rear wheels fit the RM's from a previous thread on here- would that have to be a specific year to fit an 2008 RM? I was just asking as I've been having trouble finding a rm hub as parts arnt very common (eBay) and was looking as it would be cheaper to buy a whole KX wheel than buy a brand new RM hub! Thanks for the help!
  23. I am rebuilding the top end on my 1993 kx250 dirt bike. Ive never done a top end before, and i was wondering how much it would cost. Also, how can i tell if i need my cylinder re plated? Does anybody have any piston kit brands for me to consider? TIA
