  4. I live in Uniontown and I have a 12 year old who's recently gotten the dirt bike bug and I'm looking for a nice area for him to learn the basics. Somewhere he won't be distracted by a bunch of bikes buzzing around or get run over by a quad. I also have a couple teenagers who want to learn to ride. They aren't as gonzo about bikes as the youngest, they just want to put around. Anyone know of some areas that aren't too far away (I still have a crap schedule), that don't charge a lot per bike? I just need an area big enough for him to get the basics down without worrying about running over the neighbors poodle.
  5. I was in the Cleveland area over the weekend talking to one of my old riding buddies. He said that he had heard that Nelsonville or somewhere near Wayne NF has new rules about riding on the road. I told him I hadn't heard that, but told him I would check on it. He has been going to Hatfield McCoy and loves it, but it is a haul from Cleveland. The story he heard was that Nelsonville allowed motorcycles to ride in from the trails. I told him that I had not heard that, and told him how to get street plates for his bike (XR250R). I told him not to even risk it, get plates and be legal. They are planning to come to Wayne in the end of April. I told them about some areas that I have ridden in the last year that we had never ridden when we all used to come down from Cleveland.
  6. Hi Moto Crazy Folks! Gary Semic's videos have really helped me, but I need some more in depth help. I don't have the luxury of hitting a jump 30 times before giving it a rip because I don't ride motocross tracks. I see a jump while riding trails and then get a few practice hits and then have to go for it. The bike kicking sideways is still my huge fear and this happens often. A rock, bump, or rut kicking me hard to one side or the other is now under control due to Gary...I simply lean away from these obstacles and I normally fair ok. Weighting one peg too much is not happening. The "slip out affect" is the best way for me to describe this. I find myself wanting to roll off the lip with no throttle so the back won't kick out and then I compensate in the air by hitting the throttle and bringing the nose up. Letting off the throttle makes it very difficult to clear obstacles/gaps to the landing zones. I thought teaching myself to whip might help, but in a whip I let the bike kick to one side and my body stays to the inside...pulling your leg in brings the bike back to the center. However, when you try for a straight air and the bike kicks out your body stays with the bike and not on the inside. Just had a thought...maybe twist your body/legs? I avoid high siding by turning my handlebars into the kick, but when I land it obviously shoots me off to the side and when offroad you don't usually have that luxury/room. My current conclusion is to analyze the take off really closely for any slant, however there doesn't need to be a slant to kick me to the side...unless the slightest slant can make a difference. In the sand this affect is worse, but even on firm dirt this will happen. Critique away please.

  10. In case anyone is thinking of going to this Enduro, I've noticed that the club page is down, so I'll post what I know about the event here. 31471 Ohio 93 McArthur, OH 45651 Key Time: 10 a.m. Arrive and sign up by 9:30 a.m. Not sure if AMA membership is required. Will most likely be a booth to purchase AMA membership at sign up, as there usually is. I'll be arriving between 8:30 and 9 a.m. depending on weather. Light thunderstorms, OK. Rain, probably won't go. I believe $50 to race, $40 for sportsman class. Not sure if they're offering a dual sport event after the enduro, but if they are, I'll be doing that one. I believe it's $25 for the dual sport event, as it was at the Jake Tom Enduro on Aug 2nd. McArthur, OH Sunday Scattered Thunderstorms 86 °F | °C Precipitation: 50% Humidity: 68% Wind: 7 mph
  11. I just bought a 2009 CRF450R and notice that one of the spokes were broken on the rear wheel, when I put it up on the stand it had a pretty bad wobble. I went on a few sites and it doesn't look too hard to do even without having all the right equipment. But if I find a local bike shop that will do it for a reasonable price I would rather go that route. So is there any shops around Eastern Ohio, I am about 45 minutes west of Pittsburgh and about an hour south of canton. Thanks in advance Greg

  13. I heard there is gonna be a demo event at Hocking Valley next weekend. The flyer stated you could ride the practice tracks with your own bike as well. The track was described as about a 1 1/2 mile demo loop. I just did not know if there was other riding at the club permitted that day as I have never been there and thought about checking it out.
  14. Want to go riding in the Hatfield McCoy this weekend, but where is the best single track down there?

  24. Well I made my first trip to the Ohio motocross arena today. Unfortunately my day was cut short due to losing both of my contacts, luckily I brought a pair of glasses just incase and was able to drive home. One day I'll get lasik... On to the facility. I thought it was top notch. I have done a lot of arenacrossing and OMA ranks up there with the best. While the track isn't necessarily the largest, it is built well with huge berms and fun obstacles. Heated indoor pits, clean restrooms, and a nice kitchen area also add to the experience. Especially for those that have to bring significant others, they know what I mean. If you are looking for a place to ride this winter check it out. I am tired of seeing indoor arenas closing so keep supporting them!
