  1. 06 SMR510 & 16 FE501S but have nobody that I ride with locally! I always feel as if the risk is increased by riding alone especially on these windy highways (101+199), forest service roads & trails. Plus riding alone typically isn't as much fun either. Msg me or reply to this thread to get in touch and maybe even make a new friend. Regards, Tyler

    Mountain View MX

I'm thinking about going to Mountain View MX this Saturday to get some track time on practice day (5/5). It's been a long time since I've been on an MX track, but it sounds like fun way to kick the season off. Anyone else interested in going?

East Fort Rock - Video Inside

Hi all! First post here, had my DR650 for almost 3 years now, only over the last year has she started to see some good off road use now that I have some good riding buddies to ride with. Anyways, wanted to drop in and share our outing last weekend here at East Fort Rock OHV. Little dusty, but otherwise trails were very good! We stuck closer to Pine Mountain, so no snow that we ran into. Busted off my starter button, not even sure how. Im sure we will be back. This kind of riding makes me want a dedicated dirtbike or an enduro of some sort.

  6. Looking for a group or at least one other person to ride with tomorrow in the Tillamook State Forest, preferably Diamond Mill. All my buddies either have a broken bike or other plans and I need my fix. I am a decent rider and shouldn't slow anyone down much, just don't like taking the risk of riding alone. Let me know if you will be up there if you don't mind me tagging along.

  8. This Saturday March 2nd is looking like another good day for MX again. Only a 10% chance of rain! I'll be there with a good sized group of friends. Feel free to join us, whether you're a complete noob or can ride pretty good, there's plenty of us there riding somewhere around your skill level. We'll be posting up in the far back corner. So go in the gate, go past the first turn, go to the second turn, and we'll be right there. I've got #99 and SHRED JESSE on my bike. There will be a crew of us. For more information on things like this, check out www.meetup.com and check out the Portland Power Sports group. I post up everything I do there.
  9. I'm sorry to inform you that due to the lack of moisture and the condition of the track the race scedualed for this Sunday Oct. 14th has been cancelled. Due to the fact that this track is a public park that is used for free by the public our funds are not large enough to pay for a water truck to haul water for the maney days it would take to complete the work it will take to get the track race ready. We have another race scedualed for Nov. 18th. This race will be ran rain, snow or shine. With the weather report showing a little moisture coming our way we will begin track maintenace next week. Again we are sorry but we just can't build a track out of dust and due to the heavy use this summer it needs a lot of work that we need water for. Please visit our web site at (thebikepit.org) or friends our fb The Bike Pit (OHV) for updates. PS. WE will still be conducting a YSEP (Youth Safety Evaluaton Program) this Sat. Oct. 14th for those who still need to get there hands on card for riding Oregon public lands. See Oregon OHV site for details and pre registration. This wll probably be the last one we will conduct this fall so if you want to be ready for spring riding on the east side this is your chance. Thank You The Bike Pit
  10. Can anyone point me to some literature that states they are actually closed this year? After checking some staging areas yesterday, there were no signes posted anywhere about a closure. On the web, this is the only blurb I can find, and it doesn't say anything about this winter. In order to minimize off-season trail system damage, Hood River County trails in the Northwest, Middle Mountain and East Areas are subject to a seasonal closure to motorized use from approximately December 1, 2011 to March 15, 2012. When we arrived, there was no snow on the roads. It snowed ALL FREAKING DAY, and when we left, there were a few inches on the road, and several cars in damaged in the ditch. Overall a great day of riding. Hope I wasn't breaking the law!

Any good trail riding or dualsport day rides? staging from the State Park ? thanks
  16. Hey, I'm involved with a small group of guys that do an annual trip to East Fort Rock in central Oregon (EFR) - we are scheduled to all meet out there next week Sept 21-25. One person is driving down from North Dakota and a couple from Seattle and the rest are based out of Portland, OR. COHVOPS hotline 541-383-4010 says all of central Oregon is closed to OHV usage due to extreme fire danger. So... I know closure conditions can change quickly but the projected forecast for EFR is looking about the same as it is right now and we are scrambling for a Plan B... we are all moderate riders and mostly ride Brown's Camp, Hood River and EFR during the year and frankly just aren't in tune with anywhere else. Hoping for some Plan B suggestions. It's a group of about 10 guys so somewhere with good sized staging areas.... EFR is sure ideal for us and some googling is not drumming up much for me. Thanks in advance.

  20. Nov. 10, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media contact: James Holter Phone: (614) 856-1900, ext. 1280 E-mail: jholter@ama-cycle.org U.S. Senate to vote on proposal to kill trail funding PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The U.S. Senate will vote on a bill that would end the dedicated funding for the Recreational Trails Program (RTP), which is considered to be one of the most important and beneficial laws for off-highway vehicle (OHV) riders ever passed by Congress, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) reports. The RTP, which provides money to states to develop and maintain trails, would lose dedicated funding under provisions in a transportation funding authorization bill -- S. 1813, "Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century" (MAP-21) -- which was approved by the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee by an 18-0 vote on Nov. 9. It's unknown when the full Senate will vote on the measure. The RTP became law in 1991 as part of a federal transportation funding authorization bill. Wayne Allard, AMA vice president for government relations, was shocked by the committee vote and noted that abolishing the RTP dedicated funding would effectively create a tax increase on OHV riders because the RTP funds would no longer be designated for a program that benefits motorized trail users. "Motorcyclists pay the gasoline taxes that go to sustain the trails program," Allard said. "Many interests pull from the highway fund and do not pay into it! It becomes akin to a tax increase to the general fund. "This program was created for trail users and is self-funded by the highway fuel taxes of trail users," he added. "Trail users see this program as a very essential part of their chosen form of recreation, and there's no reason to redirect the funding for the program. The RTP pays for itself." The RTP represents a portion of the federal motor fuel excise tax collected from non-highway recreational fuel use. In other words, taxes generated by fuel used for OHV recreation -- by snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), off-highway motorcycles and off-highway light trucks -- fund the RTP. "I urge all concerned riders to contact their U.S. senators and ask them to support continued dedicated funding for the Recreational Trails Program," Allard said. "Money for the program comes from off-highway riders and should continue to be used to benefit off-highway riders." The easiest way to contact lawmakers is by going to AmericanMotorcyclist.com > Rights > Issues & Legislation. Direct link: http://capwiz.com/amacycle/callalert/index.tt?alertid=56309521

  22. No practice at Woodland, Mountain View is booked, and Albany has a race I believe. I dont want to drive to far just for the day, would going to browns camp by myself as a beginner be a bad idea never been there? Any suggestions would be great, I just want to get out somewhere even if only for a few hours....
  23. Any information will help. We are looking at staying at the Butcher Knife campground just because it is the closest. I was wondering about the road getting into the Umapine campground since it is off of the main road a ways. Then there is also wth Winom campground but coming from Washington it looks to be about another 22 miles added to the trip one way. I don't mind the drive, just wondering if it is worth it.
  24. They are at it again... People that live in these counties don't want the roads closed. Please read the article, I have pulled a few select quotes. the link to the article is at the bottom.. I would like to sign the petition I am still looking to find it online... Anybody find it please post. Wallowa County Commissioner Mike Hayward of Enterprise sums it up as "government run amok ... the federal government playing Big Brother." His wife sometimes spends a day riding ATVs with her 82-year-old father on Wallowa-Whitman roads, "and they never encounter another soul," he said. Once in place, the plan will require forest users to consult a free map before setting off, Christensen said. Roads designated off-limits won't be gated or marked, but straying onto a closed road could mean a $5,000 fine, she said. This is the quote where we need to rally the troops.... Nationwide, the work is about three-fourths done, said Josh Hicks , a Wilderness Society spokesman in Denver monitoring the development of the plans. The overall process has faced comparatively little opposition, he said, possibly because the 155 national forests encompass a staggering 523,000 miles of roads. "I think everybody realizes something's got to be done," Hicks said. "There is a lot of damage that's happening out there. I think everybody's on the same page." http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2010/10/wallow-whitman_forest_becoming_battleground_for_off-road-vehicle_limits.html
