  1. Hey forum Just got a RM85 I am rebuilding the engine on, I need to get a carb as he sold the Carb that was on it to someone. Does anyone have a link to a carb that will actually fit, seems like alot of the ebay ones don't fit when reading the reviews. Also I'm looking for the most cost-effective carb, rather then oem Carb, I'm also coming from Canada so shipping can get expensive. Thanks, Simon Kimbley
  2. Hey I’m new here and need help I have a 2006 rm85l and was changing my oil and a piece of the Thread that’s on the motor broke there are no threads left on that side and I can buy a new case but I don’t know what case I need or how to find it to buy so I’m sorta in a sticky situation so please help me out
  3. okay, i have about 20 hrs on the wiesco piston and resleeved stock bore cylinder. I was riding and out of no where i hear this loud ass noise i stopped and walked my bike home. I checked the exhaust port and checked the piston skirt and part of the cylinder. there is still the black coating on the wiesco and the cylinder still has really good cross hatching. i forgot to mention, this bike has a +3mm crank and when i rebuilt it there was heat marks on it but no up or down and perfect side to side. also, i took of the reeds and checked the piston skirt and cylinder and everything still looks good there too. i checked the fly wheel for any movement and there is none. Is my rod bearing failing? or is it the wrist pin or rolling bearing failing? the bike still has very good compression .
  4. I was wondering if a pipe from a 2002 and on Suzuki rm85 fit on to an rm80. I know a lot of the parts are cross compatible between them but I'm not sure about the exhaust pipe.
  5. Hi, Looking for help on how to get a leaner Needle on my 2003 RM85 It has Keihin PE28 I am having a lot of trouble identifying the needle that came with it. The needle says "D496" I cannot find any reference what this mean.. Ive looked up some Keihin charts to identify needles and they dont make sense. Thanks
  6. I’m 14 and my rm85 smokes so much and my power valve is making a lot of rattling noise. I took off the cover and it had a lot of black residue and there was a puddle of it under my power valves and so I cleaned it with contact cleaner and took out the power valves and looked at them and they had little scores on the top and some (but not too much) carbon on the top and bottom sides. So I cleaned them off and put some oil on them and popped them back in and I started it with the cover off and they were barely doing anything except for rattle I got along with EVERYTHING else. The previous owner honed it out and it is nikasil so idk if that has anything to to with it smoking of not but I haven’t had the chance to go get it replated because I don’t have $250. I ran it all sorts of ratios and the manual said to run it 30:1 but when I run it 50:1 it still smokes a lot and way too much and I use motorx oil. I’ll add a video on YouTube and copy and paste the link here.
  7. Hi all. I'm looking for a pair of good, used frame covers for my '85 RM80. Anything out there?
  8. Hi guys, first timer posting (and first timer with a 2 stroke too), bought a rm85 bored to 52mm (aprox) some days ago, and I decided to pop the cylinder head out, I´m not seeing any big scratches rather than a scary "chip" between the ports, I was about to pop the cylinder out to measure the piston, but this definitely stops me from doing anything, what can I do? I can feel it with my nail. I don´t think replating is an option here where I live. Also, I can see some scratches in the piston if I see through the exhaust port. The piston has some side to side play too, I don´t know if that´s too bad. Greetings! .
  9. Just install the clutch of my bike after full rebuild, and the clutch is correctly install but the lever wont return its position without me pushing it back with my hand.
  10. Hey guys, i could really use some help. I got a 02 rm 85 basically for free. Bottom end was locked up. All the parts were bought by previous owner! I rebuilt top and bottom end. Once assembled the piston hits the head. The cast numbers on the cylinder and head do not match. I cannot find anything in the manual that can tell me if i have the right ones. Im hoping its not the crank, any help would be much appreciated!!!!!
  11. my piston shattered inside my cylinder so I had to take the whole engine off the bike and take everything apart and clean it but now that i'm putting everything back together I forget where the radiator hoses go and also where the hose that comes out of the cylinder goes ill put some pictures to see if anyone can help me out, thank you. ALSO one last thing im not sure what goes on the cylinder head next to where the spark plug goes
  12. I have yet to get my rm 80 running, I noticed when I push my bike in gear and hold the clutch it does nothing, the clutch doesn’t take the bike out of gear. I took apart the clutch plates and they looked good no notches or damage, I cleaned them of old oil and put new oil on them. I am just confused at this point
  13. I just picked up a 01 RM 80. It had a cheap aftermarket flat slide on it but that did not fit into the air boot. Any suggestions on somewhat cheap carbs? The old carb I can’t find any replacement jets for and the bike has a FMF silencer so I will probably need To re jet it for that. Thanks
  14. So there is a ratted out rm80 I can scoop on the cheap and was thinking about doing a frame up restore/rebuild for and with my son for a trail bike. I’ve heard the 2001 had fairly mellow power for a two stroke. Do you think it’s worth it to do the fork swap and total rebuild adding a light etc to this bike? Or should I look for a thumper to mod out?
  15. Hello i have a 1998 rm80 that the cylinder jug on it has been screwed up beyond repair. I cant find any good jugs for a cheap price but i can find rm85 jugs easy and i was wondering if anyone knows if a rm85 jug will fit onto the rm80 bottom end. I have a feeling it will but im not sure. Im also wondering if it does fit and i put a big bore sleeve in the 85 jug if it will still fit in the 80 bottom end. If anyone knows it will be much appreciated.
  16. So I've got a 2015 rm85 that I absolutely love. I started out on a crf150f and ended up trading with a good friend for the 85, but it's my first ever 2 stroke. The first day ripping it was amazing. I had all the confidence from the comfort I felt on the new 85. Then I wrecked, took a handle bar to the neck, and ever since I've been weary of the power band kicking in. I wanted some advice, other than, "you just ride it." Cause I have some questions... 1. Will riding the 85 too slow (not in the band all the time) cause premature failure of the rings? 2. How much differently do I need to ride this bike? I loved the luxury of a steady throttle on my 4 stroke, but this 85 can't be ridden the same. I've been told that too slow will foul a plug, but too heavy and steady on the throttle in a single gear really winding it out for too long could blow the top end. 3. Any tips for trail riding and deep ruts? I'm going to Durhamtown again soon and want to be ready this time. 4. Does loading it up and fouling a plug run the risk of damaging anything other than having to replace the plug? 5. How do you handle track riding? I see a lot of guys fluttering the clutch, but I don't understand why. I know it keeps the rpms high and in the power band, but does that cause the back tire to chop by engaging and releasing the clutch so frequently? Thanks in advanced for any tips. I'm a new rider and a mom, so I gotta be safe out there and take any advice I can get to put to good use. 😁
  17. I have taken apart my carb on Rm85. I took off the main jet and the brass piece it screws into, not realizing that it has an adjustable height on it... I read later to make note of the height before removing :$ Is there anything i can do or measure to get any reference how high it should be? Thank you!!
  18. I don’t know if it’s just me but does it seem like an RM 85 loses more power as you keep rebuilding it even with a replated cylinder I am still finding myself bogging off idol with a brand new carburetor I don’t know what seems to be the problem but I’m getting sick of it and if there’s anything that I can do to help the condition of the bike please let me know
  19. I anyone know where I can find a cylinder for a 96 rm80 there’s nothing out there. Just picked this b80 up for my son and someone put thread inserts in the cylinder and screwed it all up.
  20. Hi guys: Finally finished my RM85 top end, but after 3 heat cycles I´m getting no more than 100-110 PSI of compression, and after some time of operation, seems like one of the head bolts were leaking coolant, at the same time that there was a lot of overflow coolant. Teared down yesterday and found that my cylinder head was pretty irregular, aswell as my jug (here´s the deal: the jug has grooves, but I was delievered like that from the shop, I don´t know if that´s normal, I can feel them with my nail easly) , and seems like one of the orings don´t fit perfectly to the space. What could it be? Fouled a plug tho, scared the hell of myself, thought that she blew up. I was thinking about sanding the head, putting some silicone in the orings, and check the compression
  21. Recently I bought a 02 RM85 and the brakes would get stuck so I took apart the rear caliper and when I looked at the parts fische it shows that there is a shim and a spring and I have no idea where they would go since I've never worked on brakes on a dirtbike or a car. i'm not sure how it would all go together, I'm worried that when I order the parts I wouldn't be able to figure it out I even looked at the service manual and I can't find anything I'm going to be adding a couple pictures of the caliper and the parts fische for you guys to see, I would appreciate any help
  22. So my friend was riding my 2015 rm85 at Durhamtown this weekend and the bike was running great. It has always ran great, starts first kick, super reliable. He ran it the first day there with no issues. The second day he ran it during the morning and all was fine. By the second ride he said he noticed a loss of rpms in 1st and 2nd gear, but seemed fine in 3rd. He was trail riding and went into a hill climb in 3rd and dropped to 2nd cause it was bogging up the hill in 3rd and as soon as he hit 2nd the bike died. We checked the spark plug and it was fouled. Replaced the plug with a brand new one, and the bike wouldn't start... Checked the gap in the new plug, and then tried a second new spark plug just to see - still nothing. So that lead us to checking a few things: spark at the plug, and the carb. We pulled the spark plug out and checked for spark. You could see what looked like a white flash at the plug - so we had spark. My grandfather said that the spark should appear blue in color, that white is a sign of a weak spark....? We went to check the wires leading from the coil, and we saw where the positive and negative had both shorted out on the frame, two burn marks were present on the frame and the jackets to the wires had been worn down. We wrapped them with electrical tape and checked again - still had the white flashing spark from the plug. The carb for some reason though seemed like it all of a sudden wasn't getting fuel. After kicking it so many times with no start, it didn't flood the carb and the new spark plug was completely dry. We pulled the fuel line off the carb from the petcock and gas would spill out from the line, but when observing the carb from the inside while pulling back the throttle, no fuel was entering the carb. We expected the carb to flood and flow out the overflow after so many attempts to start it. So we bought some starting fluid and sprayed it directly into the carb and it still wouldn't start! 😫 The carb is CLEAN like you would think I just bought it new. We took carb cleaner to the inside and then used a bristle brush to clean through all the jets. Still wouldn't start. At this point, between not knowing if it's weak spark or something in the carb, I'm at a loss. The bike ran like a champ every time before that day. Also, the kick start can be pushed down pretty easily by hand, so I'm thinking compression maybe. But it doesn't explain if I need to address the spark too (could have been the reason for a fouled plug) or the carb seeming to not get fuel in from the petcock line even after being thoroughly cleaned. The slide worked great, the float wasn't stuck... Any ideas? Please help a girl out!
  23. my rm 85 is really hard to start after new top end, i've already cleaned my carb and it was running 128 45 i can get it to start after cleaning the sparkplug, but if i shut it off after the start i cant get it to start again ' it also wont idle without twisting the throttle
  24. i got a weird sound coming from the cylinder ... top end changed 35 hours ago Video link : https://youtu.be/VRKVcuK04_Q
  25. I can move the clutch arm with ease on the side of the case and I thought it was because my clutch pinion had broken teeth on it, but after buying a new one i'm still having the same issue. anyone have any idea whats happening? video of this happening ---------> https://gyazo.com/ff5e2d373bec0fb28e1f042e91d2da41
