handles better than any other bike. it will turn under all others except other rmz's. revalve done with dan moore @EVO. tons of traction and the front stays planted. lots of bottoming and feels great in the small stuff. power is a perfect match for the handling characteristics. almost boring because it is not obnoxious or aggresive. with 4.1 system it added a bunch of power. rekluse clutch is cool but not necessary. bike really doesnt NEED anything. going stock or close as i can allow myself next time. 80hrs. -
so me and my buddy just bought a 06 rmz450 that supposedly needed a valve shim job. it ran when we got it but the guy had to pull start it with his truck. later after removing the valve cover we discovered that someone had already attempted to shim valves and in doing so broken off 1 of the exhaust cam journal bolts and stripped out 2 intake cam journal bolt. I currently have the intake tolerances at 0.005 in and the exhaust at 0.008. the motor to my knowledge is timed properly. I have the dots facing outwards level with the block and the dots on either cam facing upwards while the motor is at tdc on the flywheel indicator. I reassembled the bike and now it has no compression. the little plastic threads on the decompression cable are stripped and I don’t know where it’s supposed to thread into. could this be the cause of no compression? it’s just hanging on top of the block. i’m planning on selling it after i do the work. thanks

So I bought a used 2006 rmz 450 a while back. Started up great when i got it, always starts easy when its cold. The only issues I've had is after riding for a while, and the bike is hot, its a beast to start. I was out riding a few months ago, killed it and couldnt get it to start at all after. Not even with a bump starting it. I took the carb off cleaned it out put it back together and it still wont start. Im.getting spark fuel and air but it still won't pop off. Im lost..

Hey fellow Moto Enthusiasts. My ol' 2006 RMZ 450 has gobs of power but when cold has a very noticable knock. It's been knocking for years but might be getting louder. I already have a 2020 Ktm 300xc, so I don't ride the RMZ anymore, but don't want to sell the RMZ with a bad engine. I could either sell as is, part it out or find another rmz450 engine to drop in. A lot of rmz450s used for 2000 cdn. Could get engine parts bike for maybe 1500. The knock is most present when cold starting, but my final rides it became more present while riding. Cold start at fast idle: https://youtu.be/v68c0GgT1Bo After installing AMSOIL 20W50: https://youtu.be/rqWoE3G59e4 Note the bike has difficulty idling low so I often had to manually turn up idle. Sometimes it will idle low and othertimes not. Backfires a lot when cold starting also. I put in a 180 jet to richen but still does it. After winter storage cold start: https://youtu.be/JUesVwWIHyA Moab Utah Slick Rock Trail November 2018: https://youtu.be/Wx7Ruwnubr8 Dirtbike and SXS life (last ride w/ RMZ) pt.1 https://youtu.be/GWXDhoFB6zs Pt.2 https://youtu.be/lNEb6IekZLk Again I have not interest in putting money into this bike as my KTM 300xc TPI is the best! I considered keeping RMZ as a lender bike for friends, but in reality it's not a good bike for anyone. Hard starting kickstarter sucks, 4spd sucks. If I wanted a second bike for a 4-stroke id buy soemthing else like a KTM 350 or 500. Let me know your thoughts on what do to with bike. Has new tires with mousse and a good box of spares. 2017 RMX450 with 2160 miles on it. Riding mainly single track in Arizona. Last time I took her out no issues at all on some crazy Jarvis type stuff with some river crossings. At home decided to grease my linkage bearings, clean air filter and change plugs as the service manual suggested. Completed said services and upon firing the bike up it is running like crap. Missing, stalling, popping and bogging. Hard to get running under a load, me on the bike trying to go anywhere. Full throttle she runs well but mid range and just above idle its terrible. So far I have done the following all per OEM service manual. Another note, Best friend and fellow rider has same bike and same year so I am able to swap parts to see if anything changes, nothing does. Bike has JD FI tuner. Stock snorkel, throttle stop and exhaust baffle have been removed. I have played with TPS adjustment a few times and current setting is .64V. All TPS and wiring associated is in tact and good condition. Bike has a street legal kit with brake light and TS. All that is in working order with no exposed wiring. Other than these changes bike is stock basically. Replaced rear fender do to a wreck the bent it in half, nothing serious just looped it on a big hillclimb. Checked resistance in coil, found to be in spec per manual. Friend tested his coil and found to be identical readings Replaced spark plug cap and spark plug for shits and giggles Tested TPS good voltage and resistance Tested continuity at Stator, no OL ECT sensor checked out Replaced fuel pump strainer filter and swapped tanks with friend, no change IAT sensor good IAP sensor good Swapped ECM with friend, no change Kill button checked Checked all fuses, nothing blown Battery fully charged and holding 12.74V Continuity checked from all sensors back to ECM plug. At this point I am going to clean injector, throttle body and airbox. I also will check valve shims again, last time I checked clearance they were in spec shortly after I purchased the bike with 67 miles on it(dealer demo bike). Other then that I am at a loss. What else can I do and has anyone had a similar issue?

Hey guys, I'm really stuck on this one. So I just picked up a 2014 Rmz250 and it will not kickstart cold but will kickstart when at normal operating temps. The only way I can start it is with the good old bump start method. Put in a brand new Ngk spark plug, new air filter, new 92 Oct fuel and still no luck.... took it apart and inspected the wires and they looked good. It is giving no spark to a very week one on cold engine. Anyone ever ran into such a weird issue? I bought it thinking I need to so a rebuild but I feel like it's probably running rich due to poor spark... let me know thanks

So bought a pair of warp 9 rims off guy that said they were off drz400sm.. Done research and seems to be off rmz250 or 450.. Is there anyway to make them work on drz 400e.. Can i swap bearing and use spacers? If so does anyone know what size and where to get them?.. Also would i need a dif bracket for caliper or rotor to make it work? Thanks ahead of time!

Hello, I have a 2012 RMZ250 that is shutting off whenever it wants too. Its not idle because I can be riding half throttle any gear and it will do it. It seems like it's bogging out. I cleaned the entire fuel system and got a new plug. It has a wiseco fuel management system and even after I tuned it its still doing it. Any suggestions or explanations would be a help

So pretty much every 450 race bike made in the last 10 years makes anywhere from 50-60 horsepower. I have a 2006 Kx450f that makes a stock 56-58 horsepower. It's an older bike, but still no slouch. Alot of people say the 2007 Crf450r is the best carbureted 450 ever made... My question is, fuel-injected or carbureted, what year/make/model bike came with the best horsepower/torque numbers??? I know there are factors to being the fastest like rider skill, suspension type/set up, etc but which has the best engine numbers??? Let's hear what yall think?

Okay so i bought a 2017 rmz450 last year and have never owned or messed with air forks but came into it open minded. After dicking with the front end for months and the fork seal blowing causing me to frame rake and wreck on a 70ft finish line jump. Ive decided to get the conversion kit to spring with my weight springs, and revalve on forks and rear spring while im off hurt and curious if anyone else has swapped or have info on whats better for the front forks? Ive tinkered with them on my track and cant seem to find a inbetween. That and i have the factory connection pump with the no air loss adapter and it would read different everytime i had set them and then checked them.

Need help or advice on picking a bike. My last bike was an 04crf250. So been off the bike a few years. My dilemma is a 2009 rmz450 or a 2012 kx450f or maybe even a 2014 yzf450. RMZ is from a dealership. Was owned and maintained by an apprentice who works there at the shop so I'm sure maintainence was kept up on it, however the guy is a racer so that bike has been through a lot however taken care of. Guy said the bike practically has a new engine and does have some mods, fmf full system, rekluse clutch and forks have been revalved for I believe 180 or 200lb rider, I am 150. And other small stuff. I think price OTD I can get it for is $3K or $$3200. 2012 kx450f. Don' know much about but seems bike has been taken care of decently. Has KYB suspension. No mods really. Just hand guards and pro taper handle bar. And that's really it. Guy said he is pretty firm on $3800 but I'm sure will take $3600 And then there is a 2014 YZF450 that I've had my eye on but don' really want a Yamaha unless someone can change my mind. Looks like it' in decent condition and guy is asking $3700. Any pros or cons to these bikes or personal experience that you guys can share? Thanks!

I just bought a 2005 rmz 450 a week ago. Rode it a few times on the trails with no problem. Yesterday i topped off my coolant and a little ways into riding it started to steam out the overflow hose. It was mostly doing this while I was slowing down or standing still. Is this most likely a gasket?

On my 2008 rmz 450, at 1/4 throttle there's this horrible studder. It started about a month ago. The bike has about 70 hours on it i bought it later last year and never had a problem with it. The only thing that i changed on it was the header pipe it had the stock one and i tweaked it where it was making a weird noise so i replaced it with a stock one. Things i have tried............................ New spark plug Cleaned the air filter Oil change Checked the valves one exhaust is on the loose side but not out of spec. I may try injector cleaner but idk if thats ok for these bikes. Any help is appreciated thanks in advance

Took my 2005 rmz 450 riding yesterday and had to cross a mud hole with water. Made it through just fine but stalled out once I got out of it. When I was ready to start the bike again I noticed the compression was really light on the bike and it didn't want to kick but eventually did. Then when I got home I noticed everything in the engine area is covered in oil. Any idea what I could've done? Just looking to get an idea before I rip it apart after work today. Thanks

I found where all my oil was spraying from. It is one of the bolts located on the top of my engine(there's 2 total). When I found it, it was wobbling side to side and can't be tightened anymore, I took it off and tried to retighten it but same thing, goes down as tight as it can but still wobbles side to side. I took a picture of it. Also if anybody knows the proper term for the bolts that would be appreciated. Thanks for any help, I'll attach a photo later

just bought a new radiator for my 2005 rmz 450 and it does not match up to the one that is in there now from the previous owner. the new one has more hose attachments than the old one. i began to search for the correct fit and found that the 2006 rmz radiator looks to have the same hose mounts that mine currently has. would i be fine to put a 2006 radiator in my 2005 in terms of size, thanks
