  1. I was just wondering what tire brands and exact models of tires that the top guys use when they win these races... Erzberg, The Tough one, Hells Gate, Romaniacs etc.. Extreme Lagares and others. I'm more interested in the tires used in muddy slippery stuff . I haven't seen which tires are used exactly. I have a tough race coming up and it's probably going to be wet slippery and brutal and maybe I'll try something else if it works better. I'm going to need all the help I can.
  2. I have been on the hunt for the best all around rear tire for my L. I want a tire to last a decent amount of time yet be amazing off road. This thread is more or less for myself to keep track of what I've tried and the results, hopefully someone else can benefit as well. I got the L last summer so have not had a ton of time to try tires but here is what I've done so far. 1. Stock tires - actually a pretty decent 50/50 tire. I need a much more dirt oriented tire so it wasn't working for me but I was surprised at how decent it was for a good all around 50/50. 2. Kenda K270 - amazing 50/50 tire. I tried the front and the rear. The front blows off road but the rear is quite good for what it is. These things wear like iron too. I only had them on for three rides but there is essentially zero wear and that is on hard terrain that shreds tires after just a few outings. 3. Scorpion XCMH - WOW! I tossed a pair of these on and headed out to the woods, I felt like I was glued to the ground. The traction and performance was exceptional. Problem was though that by the third time out for a ride they were toast. I only got about 1 3/4 rides out of them before they has significant wear. Half way through the third ride the rear was done. The pair cost me $260 and I didn't even get two full rides out of them before the wear significantly effected the performance. The front tire was great and had a decent lifespan. 4. Shinko 505 Cheater - I really, really like this tire. I ride in the mountains and there is a ton of rock and this sucker sticks to everything and gives amazing traction. It is currently on my bike and after two hard 6 hour plus rides it has held up alright, worn away about 30%. I think I'll likely get another two, maybe three rides out of it before she's pooched. ***************** Just got these in the mail today, will edit and post thoughts on them down the road. ***************** 5.   5. I recently bought a 2017 DRZ400S and one of the first orders of business is to change out the stock tires. Is anyone running the MOTOZ TRACTIONATOR ENDURO IT or DESERT HT tire? I would love to know how you like it. My riding will be very short commute to work (10 min.) and off road (forest service roads, wooded trails, dirt track) on weekends. Thank you!

  7. Got a 2013 KTM 250 XC-W need some tire suggestions, I ride in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. Yes I know those are very different areas to ride, but trying to find the best all around tires. Ride for fun, Muti-Day Enduros, single track, fire roads, gravel roads and some asphalt when going from trail to trail. Let me know what you like! I weigh about 200 pounds and am a senior rider and am an intermediate rider. Give me your suggestions... (Asking for my pops) Thank you...
  8. *Moved from sportbike forum Hey All, A while back a racer buddy explained to me that the best combo for tire size with lean angle in mind (for supermotos) is to have the front and rear tire as close to each other in terms of size and profile as possible for best and smoothest results in learning. I tried to find more info about it but found many contradictions. Some said 150 better, some said 140. And at that, they were talking about different tire models/mfgs and combinations. I tend to believe that the thinner rear tire gets you better/quicker/smoother lean and is also lighter weight so better response. But I'd like some more opinions or some stats if you have any. My Question: Is a setup of 120/70/17 and 140/70/17 on 4.25" rims, going to get you smoother and more stable results than a 160 or 150 rear? My current setup is Conti Attack SM's 120/140 (1.5K miles on them and loving it) Thanks for any help!

  10. I'm looking for a tire similar to the Scorpion XCMH but that will last a lot longer. I ride in a lot of rocky areas, double track with loose gravel and a bit of beginner level single track with hard pack and rocks. The XCMH is perfect for where I ride, the issue is that below is what is left of them after only 3 rides. The first ride with them feels like I'm on rails cruising down gravel roads and climbing rocky hills., planted and sticky. The second ride found me sliding around a bit more but they were still great. Half way through the third ride I felt like there are patches of ice under my tires at times and I'm sliding around a lot. I keep hearing good things about the Shinko Cheater 505, the tread pattern is a little tighter though and they may not be as good on the loose stuff.

So i was riding down the highway, with my now fiancé on the back of my klr comming back from a ride up to main divide road, and i started to notice that my rear end felt ki da lumpy but thought nothing of it. It got progressivley more and more lumpy, like a feeling of the wheel being out of balance in the rear, so i made my way to the shoulder. Thats when the bead broke and i completely lost the tire, with girlfriend on back. I decelerated from 60 ish mph while the rear end of the bike jumped 3 feet left and right. My fiancé stuck to me like glue thankfully and we were able to keep the bike upright. Shaken, we walked the bike off the nearest offramp and collected ourselves. That was a couple hundred miles ago maybe eve a couple thousand, and since then ive been running a kenda 270 rear. It has been a fantastic dirt tire but on the road it gives a flat tire sensation due to the length of the knobs and their width, and follows every imperfection in the pavement. I elected to swap the rear out for a metzler karoo 3, and after 10 miles home from the shop it rides like the old tire did on the street. Overall i would not recommend the k270 for a bike of the klr650's stature, it is much too unnerving. Conversly the same tire was acceptable on the lighter dr650 i rode. Just sharing this because i wish i would have known before i bought it. God bless.
  14. Hello. I have a KTM EXC 125 (18" rim), and I was wondering if I should mount a 120/80 tire or a 120/90. I know that a 110 would be better, but it isn't omologated for my bike so those are my only choices. Same thing for the front, should I go with a 80/100 or 90/90? Will mainly use it for MX but for some enduro as well. Sorry for the newbie question

  17. Does anyone run a 130/80 18 on the rear in Michelin AC10? I have been running the S12 in that size for a couple years, but the shop owner says the AC10 may be too big and I should use the 100/100 18. The shop owner says the tire will fit but the weight may cause a loss of power. He suggests the 100/100. I'm a big guy and like the extra meat on the rear. I'm moving to the AC10 just for a change. Several guys I ride with have moved to that tire and really like it.

  19. Hi, does anyone know where I could get dual sport or supermoto tires for a crf80? I have looked absolutely everywhere and can't find them! Is it possible to put 100 wheels on an 80 without doing any extensive suspension work? I can find wheels for the 100 for days!
